I find Ruby really fascinating tbh. I just can´t understand how she is doing so well in her uni studies, and yet presents herself on social media as such an amateur and incompetent, and I don´t know how to describe it. She managed to get top grades at uni, and even managed to get in to a uni that is considered one of the best in the western world. And yet she does and says so much stupid and superficial. I don´t understand it. As far as I understand the grade system in the UK is somewhat affected by grade inflation (where I'm from, Norway, (or at least my uni course: law) exams are graded much more in accordance with normal distribution/the bell curve, where C is by far the most common grade, and only around 10% gets a A. I get that it's not completely comparable as we have five pass grades while the UK have 4, if I've not misunderstood it).

I'm four years older than Ruby and have almost completed my law degree (in Norway it's five years), but have had to postpone it due to health issues. My overall grade will probably be a C, and even thought I am fully aware of the difference in the grade system and that I should know better, I keep comparing myself to Ruby, and I just can't understand how she's getting such good results. It's a bit pathetic but I feel kind of jealous, and at the same time I should stop comparing myself and be happy about my grades. After all, C is by far the most common grade for law students here. And I have managed to do that while getting a bipolar diagnose during my degree and spending months in the hospital.

I'm sorry, this post is definitely coming across as a complete mess, and I am not used to write that much in English so the language is probably not as good as it should be. But my actual point was that I find Ruby so fascinating as I jus't don't get how she can be the way she is. Like fascinating in a funny way, or I'm not sure how to explain my thoughts the best.

Neither I, nor my parents can drive, and they survived for more than sixty years, went to work every day and raised a child. It's not practical to travel by car where I live, in a European capital city, we use public transport or bike/walk. I know it's hard to imagine for someone from the US or Australia for example. However Ruby refused to go to her workplace by bus last summer and relied on her parents to drive her everywhere, so she clearly prefers travelling by car, that's why I think she should learn how to drive. The dependency is the problematic part, not that she doesn't have a driving license, in my opinion.

I’m not even fully convinced she’s read it. She’s probably just seen the film and tried to make it one of her weird personality traits.
Definitely this. She bragged in a video a couple of years back that she used to re-read it all the time and it only took her 90 minutes. Suspiciously, that's the length of the film.

On the bright side for us though, is the prospect of something more interesting to watch than another am/pm routine. And a chance to analyse the 'best friends' interactions.
Shocking Cohenhagen vlog predictions:

Ruby will make Copenhagen look like the most boring place on Earth.

She will not allow Blakeney to speak.

"MOIY BASST FRAND BLAKENEEEEEY" will be uttered at least 4 times.

She'll mention that "OFFCWOARSE" she had to visit a bookshop, despite having almost no interest in actually reading books.

She'll make sure to shoehorn in a comment about the vegan food options in Copenhagen, despite her not being vegan.

She'll make sure to remind everyone that she was an AWKSFWUD STEEYUUUEDONNT.

It'll be topped with insufferable purple prose narration.

She'll assure us that "JANUINELY [insert lie here]".

Something will be described as "ACKSQUISITE".

The video will be VARRY KOINDLY SPWONSORED by a service that Ruby never uses.

My favourite Ruby lie this video was that she couldn't get an essay overnight delivered to Oxford, the educational capital of the world and a major city within easy driving distance of London, but she could easily get it delivered to Bone Manor, which is located in a field only 20 minutes away.

Lol. No. She had Clarice driving around the country searching for it like some kind of academic mcguffin.
---
Also, the most socialisation Ruby's done all year is eat half a gifted donut in a coffee shop, but the week her essay is due she's got a million and one social events on she simply cannot miss. Queen of productivity? More like queen of procrastination. If she'd stuck her head any further in the sand the Earth's core would have given her a concussion.

Despite the poor editing and audio I don't mind this video because it's actually want I want to see from her. Ruby out doing things and living her life with other people. And genuinely doing things, not just doing them for content which seems to be the sole purpose for 90% of things she does.

And she can say whatever she wants about being an introvert, she looks far more happier and relaxed in this video being around other people her own age than she ever looks when she's alone or with her family.

Also, she has MUCH better chemistry with Holly than she does with Blakeney. It seems to reciprocal relationship where both parties like each other equally, where it always seems like Ruby likes Blakeney a lot more than Blakney likes Ruby and so Ruby is always trying to impress her and keep her attention.

Is the concept of an iron and an ironing board non existent in their house?
Ideas for the next vlog:

Iron with me (8-hour ironathon)
Ironing on a rainy day night routine
I only iron dark academia clothes (no jeans!!!)
Going ironing with my Bast Frand Blakeney
Ironing UnJaded Jade's Curly Hair
Kombucha sponsored my ironing board
Nord VPIron
Marfa destroys the iron: an art film
Why ironing is problematic; Amily Dickinson hated it
We should normalise creases
We should normalise never ironing
I annotate the ironing board without asking my parents!
Video Essay: The Domesticity of the Iron in Victorian Childhood Girlhood

Dear Bella,

"I'm sorry for just how long it has been The summer has now came, and the meadows are ??? with the newty? ??? promise left by spring. Pre-autumn will come just next month (that always makes me think of you and Andrea)."

If my friend sent this to me, I would assume they were in a dangerous situation and this is a coded letter lol there is no fucking way anyone would send me something this pointless.

She truly is not like other girls.

Ugh, she's doing this on purpose, isn't she

Thank you for the new thread! I've just started watching the new video and had to run across to Tattle as soon as she mentioned her Blakeney screensaver. I understand having photos of your friends as a screensaver, but multiple pics of the same person (unless it's your family or partner) seems a bit... stalker-y and obsessive? 🤷‍♀️

This thread has spent a long time saying how Ruby should go into archiving because she seems to care more about the physical objects than the texts, and now freaks out when she does just that.
I think the problem is that she doesn't appear to actually care about books as physical objects either.

She just latched onto the "books as objects" thing because she thinks it validates her transparently superficial interest in literature. It's an incredibly convenient topic for her to bring up any time she's caught just harping on about the beautiful covers and pretty pictures while never having a single thought to offer for the actual contents of any book she professes to have read. But she doesn't show any care for physical books other than as handy, disposable props to further her fake bookworm persona.

She eagerly mishandles and trashes her own books, including rare texts and first editions. Her home library is a disaster of heaped books thrown into a random room to gather dust. She tosses first edition books in her bag to get bashed around (and quickly fall apart) just so she can have an old book to wave around as a prop in videos. She wandered around with stacks of borrowed library books getting soaked in the rain, just so she could be seen on camera with an armful of books on Oxford campus. She slathers books in toothpaste and paint. The first thing she did when buying a rare, first edition book in France was to get an ink stamp printed in it, to the horror of the bookseller.

I wouldn't trust her to look after the book section of her local charity shop for 5 minutes, let alone work with an archive of valuable, rare texts full-time.

Ugh, the cringy ”acting” in that video 🫣 Didn’t she get enough of it years ago with her embarrassing ”how to act like Hermione when you are constipated” videos? Surely at age 24 it’s time to move on?

Why is Blakeney dressed for a casual summer outing while Ruby looks like she fell into a bargain bin in a charity shop 😭

She bought a second-hand book and is now complaining because there are annotations 😂 Bit rich coming from someone who has been known to gift books she annotated herself. Oh but I guess that’s different, because every little brown nugget that breaks off her steaming pile of a brain is golden wisdom, not like the rest of us plebs who scribble in books.

Ruby when defacing books in past videos:
"IT'S YOKAY TYEU ANNYOTATE BOCKS AND COVER THAM IN STICKERS AND DYEEDLES! This means that theeee reader becomes part of the bock and avveryone hyooo reads theee bock aaahfta tham will see tham in theee bock and each bock becomes a yoonique acksperience."
Also Ruby: "How DAEHHR YEUUU annotate moiy bock bafwore oiy buy it!"
Commenters: "Buying an annotated book is cool because it's like the person/people who read it before become part of your reading experience."
Ruby: "ACKSHUALLY that's a VARRY GUD POINT! Oiy'd navver considered that befwore!"

Ruby's 5 second memory is the gift that keeps on giving.

Edit: just seen gossipguy addressed this (forgot to refresh before posting 😆) but thought this comment still adds even more context, because apparently the book/author wasn’t even racist - it actually had anti-racist messages.

Proof that Ruby has no critical thinking skills. Shocking for an English student. Another comment replied that they understood the message when they read the book as a CHILD.

Ruby says there was ‘racist language so was an uncomfortable read’ which I think is a very dangerous sentiment as books SHOULD be tackling uncomfortable concepts. Doesn’t mean the book is promoting them. I am really in disbelief that this is someone (most likely) going into an English PhD and isn’t able to understand messages in children’s books.

Also she just liked the comment and refused to acknowledge anything they said. Pathetic and embarrassing 🤣
