Why's she bought a new iPad when she already has one that clearly works? Why did she waste money on one of those smart cases if she wants to use the pencil???

Why didn't she use the Apple trade in and student programmes that they have to get a heavily discounted iPad and pencil in one?

She's infuriating
I don't own any Apple products, but to be fair, I did buy a Surface Laptop 4 last year when I already had a working Chromebook because I was tired of having to manually install and setup software that wasn't native to the device. I don't know which iPad she upgraded from and I hate to defend Ruby, but Apple does have the issue with slowing down devices and taking away features that they include in new upgrades after updates.

She used her old iPad all through the video though - she just wants to ham up that she's off to Oxford and that she's sooooo amazing for going there

I think your case is different.
First of all she doesnt have a job that requires use of a tablet, let alone an ipad. Her degree or career path does not require use of a tablet, let alone an ipad.
She can easily manage her school and yt work via pen paper and her mac (or the sponsored lenovo laptop too i guess).
Her "need" of a new ipad is due to her being a priviledged, spoiled brat.

If she just said "I wanted to get this" and got it, then that would be okay. It's not like she bought every single version of iPad and called it a need lol But noooo she has to emphasize about how she got it second-hand (acting like she can't afford a new one), and moan about having to buy a pen for it, saying how it's just "another thing apple makes us buy". If you don't want to buy it, then don't. If you want to buy it, then buy it. Just don't be so fake about it. That's when it gets annoying. Acting like she's being forced to buy this really expensive but essential thing smh

She absolutely does not need that iPad, especially not the pro version. It's just another device she can use for pointless busy work. Air dropping templates, pictures of notes (no wonder her pc gets so cluttered) and documents she'll never use from one device to another, Making notes on it that she can then copy to her NYOTION, Filling in templates, like that shopping list that she could've easily scribbled down on a pice of paper or used an app for like a normal person, etc, etc.
I also think she is just really struggling with all the stuff the needs to do and instead of sitting down and trying to work through it with the tools she already has, she buys all these shiny new thing in the hopes that they will magically fix all the problems she's having.

She is already under-prepared compared to students who went through a more rigorous undergraduate degree (like Oxford or Cambridge - I’m not saying those are the only ones, but Ruby’s degree was certainly less rigorous by comparison), and she hasn’t sought to close the gap during her year off. She could have done: it absolutely would have been possible to do sustained independent study in the field. But - as so often said - she isn’t interested.

She must be terrified, deep down. But the longer she puts it off, the worse it will be when she actually starts. She needs to get down to a solid work schedule right away.

Considering all of her self esteem has come from being the SmaRtEsT GiRL iN CLasS I think she knows it’ll be a whole different ball game where she’s going and she won’t be able to cope with going from how she was at school to that. She probably got a taste of it in uni already, but this is going to be bad if she doesn’t learn how to actually engage with texts beyond desperately trying to sound clever when she speaks about them.

exactly, I had a smaller iPad and for Uni, studying mathematics which relied heavily on my handwritten notes I wanted a bigger one, I could easily afford it so I treated myself to a new iPad. Was it completely necessary, def. a big NO. But I enjoyed the bigger one so much, I consider it well worth the money.

And her trip to Scotland is another paid ad. Did VisitScotland learn nothing from the half-assed mess she delivered last time? What a waste of money.

it irritates me to no end that throw money at english influencers like ruby to send them up to the fringe when we have plenty of scottish creators here who could do an infinitely better job. i’m sure jean menzies has been mentioned in the threads before but she’s from edinburgh and actually cares about the areas of history she specialises in & content she puts out.

I'm one of those people who owns an iPad and Macbook. 🙈 I bought my first iPad (Air; the first generation) in 2013 as a reward and my Macbook in 2018 because the Macbook I was using at the time was "old" (it was a 2011 17" model from my husband and the keyboard started acting weird. some letters didn't work). When I finished my bachelor's degree three years ago, I bought a new iPad (the Pro version with the 2. gen pencil). The Apple pencils aren't compatible with the iPad Air I had. My husband has an older iPad Pro and the 1st gen pencil. I even bought the Paperlike screen protector. 😃

During my master's I used the iPad a lot for notes because then I could watch the online lecture on my laptop and take notes on the iPad. Writing on the iPad feels so "natural". But I don't know how some youtubers can write soo neat. When I take notes, it always looks messy. At first I thought I "had" to make my notes look fancy but then I soon realised that there is no time for neat note taking while listening to a lecture. I think making fancy notes with little doodles etc. is a bit like procrastinating (which I am very good at).

regarding Masters and the length: Here in Germany, a Master's degree is 4 semesters (2 years) (I don't know if it's always the case)

There’s nothing wrong with having an iPad and a MacBook. It’s Rubert’s pathetic pretence that her existing iPad wasn’t fine, and that she could only afford her new iPad secondhand, and that therefore Apple was forcing her to buy a new Apple pencil that is getting our goat. She already had multiple devices, as many of us do - her sole reason for this ✨ upgrade✨ was flexing for Oxford.

So I know MA programs are different in the UK than the US but is she going to only be doing this for a year? Does she even know what she is going to be doing after?

This. I can't believe the number of young kids nowadays who aspire to be "influencers" when they grow up. It's not a damn job but it's very easy mone if you're lucky enough to get past other twenty gazillion channels who are also trying to be rich from social media. Ruby has lucked out big time, I wonder why she even keeps up this charade of an academic future. Just slap a Notion or a NordVpn spon on your crap video once every few weeks and you're sorted. Makes me angry.
These "influencers" are even more disgusting for us artists,
I see in the video comments somebody received the planner but it arrived in a damaged state and I have also noticed that when the planners have been shown on videos a number of them look damaged and don't look new at all. Here is the comment that was posted on Ruby's latest video.
Hi Ruby ! I have received the planner (i had to pay more money than i thought to get it to France but that is another story and obviously no fault of yours or the company you work with) and unfortunately it arrived really damaged because the last page was built in as the first but folded to sit as the end page anyway - so of course it is now in a really bad state. It also led to damage to the spine of the planner (which now looks very fragile to me, I do not think I will be able to carry it around). I went to all the shops that help with these kinds of things in my area and none of them have the equipment to fix it. I hope this review can be seen so that hopefully this does not happen to someone else ! I hope they can check for that sort of mistakes.
Damn even my compatriots buy this crap?

Oh I'm so disappointed in her using 21st century tech appliances. I thought she would be stocking up on quills and ink. I expected better of you Ruby Granger.

Her Depop prices infuriate me. The things she sells are not worth more than £10, max. Even if you bought them for £25, the actual value is probably like £12 so when you're selling it used it will be lessthan that. Most secondhand things deplete in value. Not to mention, she doesn't need the money so she doesn't need to be charging nearly £20 for two crappy Harry Potter t-shirts.

I mean, I add £2/3 on to everything I sell on Vinted to chance it - not because I'm an hole, but because then the people lowballing you pay what it's worth
