I don't blame her parents for the house not being sparkling. You get to a stage of life where it stops mattering so much. The amount of times I've scrubbed the kitchen floor on my hands and knees, and where did it get me? You don't eat off the floor. We're obsessed with cleanliness nowadays, largely due to Instagram and TikTok. Aspirational BS designed to make us feel inadequate and spend money on products. Which brings me nicely back round to Rooibos's content.
I don't advocate for perfect gram-fit homes but personally I'm not keen on grubby homes. Bones mansion just looks grubby and imo somewhat unhygienic.

I was on YouTube during my lunch break and this video popped up -- remember when ruby pretended it was October in July :')
Her voice is so high pitched it literally sounds like a child is speaking. Oh and the best quote is 'I was sad thinking there were no gorgeous autumn colours.. even if I know it is AUGUST' .... I cannot
This video is just peak pretentiousness all over 😂 My fave bit is when she makes a total of less than a full tablespoon of pumpkin almond butter to go with her porridge. Much gourmet, so delicious!

There’s also zero chance she’s actually reading any of the works listed. She’s going to be copying character lists and plot summaries from Sparknotes. The most any of her primary texts are going to be getting is a quick skim and a page flag for any passages referenced as being of particular importance in the summaries she reads.
Oh Lord, that is not going to go well for her at Oxford… 😲

I hope she is just doing it behind the scenes and, for whatever reason, not sharing it. (If this is the case, it’s definitely some weird Ruby reason like wanting to pretend she did it all in a month because she is a prodigy.) As ghastly as she can be, I can’t bring myself to actively wish total shame and failure on her.

Is that the floor of her KITCHEN that she robot-hoovered? God that's nasty. Couple that with bare feet outside trailed inside, sheets just on the floor with god-knows-how-much piles of dust under the bed, grimy fingerprints all over screens, disgusting mugs and dishes that are haphazardly washed, a wooden table that's lost its protective coating and has coffee splashed over it every day, clothes with stains, etc etc.

I understand if someone doesn't have time to clean, but she has all the time in the world to do busywork. Why does she never put "clean" in her to-do lists? Living in that much filth, she probably smells like body sweat, musky clothes, and dirty house.
I feel like at this point since everything is so filthy, they should shell out for a professional cleaning company to give them a nice deep clean and then never let it get this bad again.

Someone mentioned that they have multiple houses. I would imagine they're all in a similar state which is kinda horrifying.

She can’t allow herself to give any acknowledgement to the valid criticisms she receives, but I’m sure at some level she does “hear” what is said about her (given that we know she reads Tattle), and that it contributes to her narcissistic approach. I’m not suggesting she is a clinically diagnosable narcissist, just that all her worst behaviours and traits are unfortunately cultivated by social media success… as tends to be the case. Like so many people who achieve some degree of fame or notoriety, she feels insecure or unworthy deep down which is why she can’t actually be herself (her real self) - or rather, doesn’t seem to have much of a real self left to be, at this point.

I have now gone back and watched a handful of her earliest videos in the wake of my couple of posts earlier in the thread about gift hauls (2018/2019), which only confirms this for me further. Was she spoilt and inexperienced back when she started her channel? Yes - but she was so, so much less curated and fake, too. She had a hodge podge of weird likes and interests; she was “uncool”, partly because she was trying too hard, yes, but partly because she actually WAS the person she was portraying.

While I’m sure there were people who would find the early Ruby unbearable (which is justified!), I’m a little older than her and I find her irritating but basically harmless. The transformation from then to the collection of stereotypes and poorly copied aesthetic trends that she is now, is… really quite something. She was so much more willing to admit ignorance, to show actual vulnerability, to acknowledge real adult interests like politics, and was just an all round more interesting person even at sixteen or seventeen than she is now.

Hi, lurker here, sorry for asking this out of the blue, but can you guys recommend other youtubers who have a similar aesthetic to Ruby's without being as frustrating as she is? I mean stuff like fountain pens, long country walks, vintage books with yellowed pages, etc

It’s actually very easy to change your course at Oxford at any level. All you need is everyone to agree and sign off on it. You might have to do an extra module or two that you missed while you were doing your original course and thus you might graduate slightly later but yes they let you.

I wouldn’t put it past her to change what she’s doing. I’m surprised she chose the MA she did.
No, it really isn’t that easy - and especially not changing from one MSt to another strand.

(Oxford and Cambridge taught masters programmes are also not MAs, because the “standard” undergraduate degree is “upgraded” automatically to MA anyway.)

Edit: I will say, though, that if anyone can secure special treatment like this? That person would be Ruby.

Ugh, that floor  I'm assuming someone in her family, most likely her mother, is filming this and saw no problem with showing their house in this state. So up to some point, you can say that Rumbster is just used to living in filth and it's normal for her because she was brought up like that. But then... she grows up? she goes to other people's home? She sees other people's home in videos, movies, series etc?? Did she really never notice that nobody has wet, disgusting floor, and grimy countertops, moldy sinks, and smelly sheets????
I thought they are rich, can't they afford housekeeping? Their manor has to be scrubbed top to bottom

Ironically enough, I think being neurodiverse can also make it more tricky and complicated to “work out” your sexuality for some people. Not to stray even more off-topic by going into depth, but I believe this was the case for me (also neurodiverse). So it isn’t necessarily the case of neurodiversity making queerness less likely, or vice versa.

And, most importantly, I assume that if someone points out you're doing something wrong, you act like an adult about it instead of reacting like an 8 year old being bullied on the playground.
Absolutely. It's the way to learn & improve. I think (imo, at least) a problem with those, like Ruby, who have an online presence, they are far too used to plaudits and accolades which only add to their over-inflated opinion of self. If anyone offers any kind of constructive criticism or questions something there is a whole army of follows who jump up in their defense. I feel those followers blindly applaud all these influencers do without question or reflection. I wonder if some of them actually think someone like Ruby will feel better about them or feel they are a 'friend' if they 'stick up' for them. If this is the case this is naive to think these people care what their followers think in any real sense. They say they do but honestly beyond an income why would they?

Someone made an FOI request and received the entire syllabus for Ruby's MSt: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/reading_lists_course_syllabus_an

It really does seem like she's doing the wrong course, maybe she initially applied to the American one for Emily Dickinson? I don't think she has even scratched the surface of the preparation needed lol
American literature masters courses at Oxford and Cambridge are usually more competitive to get into than the earlier period ones.

Her handwriting is so....unusual? Why doesn't she do joined up writing and why are all the letters the same size? Why do her 'd's look like a's?
Apart from her signature 🤔

Do we actually have proof that her mum is an alcoholic?
Is there proof that anyone is an alcoholic? The definition of an alcoholic is a little subjective. Technically, there's a number to it medically, but depending on your culture, that could be normal. Europeans drink more than the average American, but I don't think Europeans are alcoholics.

She's lived in a bubble of play pretend and being pampered and coddled her entire life. What she needs is a reality check.
She'll never mature if she doesn't spend meaningful time with people her own age and older, seeing firsthand how many responsibilities they have, how independent they are and what is expected of them.

In order to gain real self confidence that is rooted in reality and actual achievements (not just delusions of being a genius and never doing anything wrong), she needs to do something that is actually worthwhile and has real consequences. Up until now all she's done is fuck around, because nobody expects anything from her or wants anything for her.
Idk, she does have an alcholic mother who seems determined to keep Roobles entirely dependent on her for her own gratification, which is probably the root cause of Ruby's whole...Ruby. Regardless of anything else, that is not an easy road in life for anybody. It is certainly not a coddled life. I don't think she has a chance at developing anything resembling a normal life while Clare has got her tangled up in the co-dependent death grip of an addict.
