It’s so much easier to give advice than to heed it especially when you’re in the middle of the situation, but if I were Ruby I’d spend this time being honest with myself and trying to discover who I am away from academia. Must be so disorienting leaving it but my worry for all these studytubers, and I was the same when I was at school, is that they have so little interests outside academia. It’s normal to feel lost after graduating and it is a tough time, but she needs to be really honest with herself and see who she is beyond books and the granger lifestyle and her idea of productivity. I felt sorry for her watching her instagramming her day the other day when she said she couldn’t get going and was sort of forcing herself to read 30 pages and couldn’t focus, it’s fine to rest and just be and do internal self reflection beyond reading Plato; who was she doing all that work for when she’s on a gap year? There’s so little incentive for therapy and maybe she hasn’t realised she has a problem when all her followers tell her how much she inspires them, but she needs to realise struggling and reaching out for help doesn’t make you weak. I feel sorry for her as - speaking as someone who was mega academics focused at school and has lived a sheltered life as a partial result - she is depriving herself of so much just because she won’t let herself do it, even things like watching tv and listening to certain kinds of music. I was similar and I missed out on a lot and I don’t want that for her

Book ReviewI think Elizabeth Strout has to be one of my favourite authors, if not my favourite. I just love the style of her writing - it's as if you are reading her diary or letters personally addressed to you. The author manages to convey so much with so few words and keeps your imagination...

"I think Elizabeth Strout has to be one of my favourite authors, if not my favourite. I just love the style of her writing - it's as if you are reading her diary or letters personally addressed to you. The author manages to convey so much with so few words and keeps your imagination working. The protagonist in Lucy by the Sea is Lucy Barton and this is the fourth book in the series, and is set during the pandemic. I think it is an important book as it reflects a history that we all shared. The book is set in the USA but many of us can relate to Lucy's character during the lockdowns. Even though it is a relatively recent history, it seems light years away and it is interesting to look back and realise how far we have come with vaccines and getting on with our newly structured lives in the wake of the pandemic. Lucy isolates in Maine with her ex-husband, in an old house by the sea, that a friend rents them and is a world away from her bustling life in New York. At first she hates being away from the buzz but slowly melts into her new life at the quiet seaside place she now finds herself with with her ex-husband, who wanted to save her life by taking her there. They talk of air hugs and wearing masks when visiting their daughters, memories of the past and new friends made. They go for daily walks which we all took to help keep our sanity. I loved this book so much and urge you to read it. Elizabeth Strout is a genius writer."
That was a hell of a lot of pointless sentences just to say nothing at all. I'd say self-proclaimed astronomy enthusiast Ruby should remind her mother that light years measure distance, not time, but it's a given that Ruby doesn't know that either.

Elizabeth Strout is one of my favourite authors. I particularly love the endearing, conversational style of her Lucy Barton series which tracks the life of its narrator from small-town Illinois to New York City. The fourth book in this series, Lucy at Sea, is set in Maine during the Coronavirus pandemic. Lucy and her ex-husband retreat to their 'house by the sea' to isolate from the virus. At first, Lucy hates being away from the bustle of New York, but gradually she eases into her new life in the quiet seaside town. This story will resonate with a British audience too, as it manages to capture our shared experience at the height of the pandemic - from air hugs and face masks to the daily walks that gave us routine and maintained our sanity. This piece of recent history already seems distant, and it's interesting to look back and realise just how far we've come since the early days of the pandemic. I loved this book so much and urge you to read it.
Perhaps Ruby or Mother Granger could have successful careers as ghostwriters? I hear that it's very lucrative right now. Some authors might be looking for a spare professional.

Bones Writers!''Hi guys, I've been lurking here for some time and just wanted to say that it's refreshing to see people that didn't fall for the Rooby persona like i did in Higschool. Watching her and other studytubers was making my depression and anxiety a lot worse, and I was an undiagnosed autistic in a very demanding school. Obviously it was my choice to watch them, but I didn't know better then, really thought that I was a failure because I couldn't study for 8 hours a day and do milion ""productive"" things in a day. I really wanted to be them... but now I am so glad to be myself. I've worked on my mental health a lot, I have hobbies that bring me joy, I am on my way to finishing a master's degree this year and have a chance of starting phd next year... Obviously there is nothing wrong with changing courses, going to school later in life, not going at all, etc., but now I can see clearly who Ruby is... just an ordinary person, but obsessed with ""productivity"", making videos to boost her own ego and lying about hating hussle culture, Girl, you are part of the problem.
She needs to hire you as her publicist
