I've noticed that Ruby never talks up the Brontës, even though the sisters and their writing would seem to be perfectly aligned with her online image and purported interests. How does a supposed lover of literature, Victoriana, and moody atmospherics routinely ignore the Brontës? Too violent? Too sexy? Whatever the reason, I get the feeling she's not a fan, so it'll be interesting if she has to do some kind of academic instruction on Wuthering Heights.
I'm sure she's mentioned Jane Eyre before and didn't like the ending because Jane got married? I think she'll have much more of a struggle with Wuthering Heights but I also think she'll want to say she likes it because the nature and the moors fit with the image of herself she tries to curate.

Wuthering Heights might be a bit too raunchy for her, I think thats why she doesn't talk up the Brontes. I've come to the conclusion that Ruby isn't a true lover of literature. She just loves the image and identity of being bookish and literary.

It's because the Brontes are not 'victorian' enough AKA they're too regency/early Victorian to be ""relatable"" (its why I feel like she didn't like Bridgerton either + the sex scenes) I can tell she does not really like the Regency era at all and wants to live more of an Edwardian / late-Victorian lifestyle. I honestly expect her to want to be the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey when she turns 40 ngl.

i had a sudden flash back to ruby and blaney and their "library Cards|" for borrowing each others books and scanning the card with a hairbrush ?! am i remembering this right......?
Unfortunately, yes. And they were like 22 at the time. It's not quirky or adorable, it's just sad and bizarre. You can tell that Ruby went out of her way to not befriend anyone who wasn't exactly like her at uni, otherwise she would have understood by then that this behavior is not normal at all among her peers. I mean, at that age, the majority of my uni friends had jobs, somewhat long-term relationships, were abroad in Erasmus, making plans for the future, etc. The fact that Ruby was seemingly able to find the one person willing to put up with her childish nonsense and participate in it really says something about the kind of people she was willing to approach.

If any other creator titled their video like this, I wouldn't give it a second thought. But, considering Ruby's creepy obsession and fixation on Blakeney, something tells me this was her idea.

Blakeney is back, and Ruby's locked her "BASST FRAND" in mummy and daddy's stanky old camper van with her so that she never escapes again to promote a gifted book that Ruby clearly didn't read.

Screenshot_20230107_100646_Chrome.jpg

Ruby "put together some AMMARICKAN SNACKS" like...(checks notes)...English crisps, English bread, English carrots, English jam, English peanut butter, English biscuits, and a beat-up single packet of Pop Tarts.

"WHAN THIS BOOK GYOT INTANSE, IT GYOT INTANSE."

The fake look of shock I had when Ruby started advertising yet another product she hasn't bothered checking out in full in an embarrassingly half-assed video.

"It was SOCH a gud bock and SOCH a gud day and that is whoiy--[abrupt end to the video]"

This video tells absolutely nothing about the book. Once again, if I were a marketing person who paid Ruby and got this embarrassing mess in return, I'd be clawing that money back. But it does confirm the incredibly funny trend that Blakeney will only reappear in Ruby's life now when there's a gifted product or event on offer.

Since nothing is happening, let me share a totally OT Roobee moment I had yesterday.
Background: 1) I’m trying to finally finish Special Operation and Peace by That Russian Guy. 2) I have a cat who needs to be medicated daily for 5-6 weeks and we’re on day 8, no one’s loving it.

So, long story short, I got rather badly bitten by my PARFACKT little angel yesterday and had to go to A&E (walking distance and next to the supermarket). I brought a book, expecting to have to wait all evening. Fun fact, cat bites are apparently super dangerous and my tetanus wasn’t up to date, so they took me in past an entire waiting-room-ful of sneezy coughy people, and I got my shot and antibiotics and was out of there in five minutes flat. Elated, I decided to do a little food shop since I now had all this time - but alas, once I got all my groceries, my backpack could no longer accommodate my book (it was between the book and 2kg of potatoes lol). I had to walk home holding SO&P, but no one saw me (it was dark and there were no people anyway) and ofc we can’t have that, so I took a very Roobee photo for my insta stories that prominently featured said book. Felt like a bookish child genius and an unspeakable fraud all at the same time, which I imagine is all in a day’s work for little miss bookwahrm.

She’s really not been posting much. I imagine the impending ”traditional job” is quite anxiety-inducing after being holed up in her childhood bedroom for so long.
Hope you (and the cat) get better soon!

lmao what about the bit where she said they wanted to make it ImMERsIVe so when the characters drank water, they also drank some water. It's like they were in the book or something!

Nit-picking but none of the pop tarts available in the uk are vegan. And the ones sold in the UK in American stores are also not vegan…

A true edge-of-your-seat thrill ride!

I'm eagerly awaiting Ruby's next failed book submission, The Hydration of Erimentha Parker.

I also wouldn't bat an eyelid at any other 22 year old making a video and calling someone their best friend but it just feels so possessive when Ruby does it

I'm gatekeeping wuthering heights from Ruby, I hope she never reads it. I have fond memories of reading it during A Levels and watching the adaptation for Tom Hardy. Don't want her opinions on it 😭

She's not a fan of Jane Austen for the same reason.

Apparently she has read wuthering heights recently, she gave it 3 stars on goodreads. which is generous considering it's ruby

We shouldn't categorically disapprove of everything Ruby does. She seems happy in her van short video, as well as Blakeney. I am glad she is spending some time with people other than her family, and one good thing about Blakeney is that she definitely didn't befriend Ruby just because of her social media following. Otherwise she would have a public profile somewhere. So it does seem like an authentic friendship.

I definitely don’t disapprove of her spending time with Blakeney and doing silly things with her. It’s just the fact that this, too, was a content opportunity for her, and for sure she’s doing it because she expects a collab with a publisher to pay off in the medium to long term for her.

I don't disapprove of Roob hanging out with Blakeney in the van. I'm just laughing at the content she created out of it. Content is created for people to react to. As usual, Ruby's feedback on the day and the book is 'SUCH a good day'.....'SUCH a good book'. I have a feeling that she will be cutting back on Youtube and making more of this short form content.

Disapproving of everything she does just for the sake of it definitely shouldn't be the norm (although I struggle to recall anything Ruby's done in the past few years that's worthy of even faint praise), but there's plenty of valid reasons to criticise and laugh at this video.

It's yet another shoddily-made ad that Ruby uploaded far too late (the book was released on December 8th, which was when Ruby was supposed to be advertising the book). It's full of incompetence and Ruby stupidity (English foods = American snacks now, apparently) with Mummy Bones creeping around because Ruby can't be left alone. It abruptly ends mid-sentence. This is a professional ad, it's beyond embarrassing that Ruby can't make one ad that's even vaguely competent.

You'd think in an ad, she might at least be able to tell people the basic cover pitch, but nope, just that 'it takes place in an RV and is a mystery'.

There's nothing wrong with Ruby having friends, and I've said before that she'd do herself a world of good by showing herself socialising with the few friends she has to make herself seem more human and less fake and robotic. But her refusing to let other people talk and using Blakeney as a silent prop in yet another shoddily-made ad doesn't exactly make herself seem genuine.

She could've made an actual vlog in which they spent 8 hours in a van having fun and reacting to the book, which would've been a change from her usual repetitive routines. It might've even made Ruby seem (gasp) genuine to have her on-screen with another human being who was allowed to talk. But nope, same old tit in a faked video where they clearly spent half an hour in the van and she didn't read the book.

What a nice idea for her to use. But she/her management either don't read tattle or they just don't care which would be a shame. I've been on here for like half a year now and despite all the trolling, there has been such a great amount of ideas and inspiration for improvement. I've also compared Ruby's threads to other threads about other influencers which are beyond boring.

I re-read my reply to you and I hope it didn't come over as rude! Sorry if it did. I agree that we shouldn't categorically disapprove of everything Ruby does. Of course. She is a content creator so my reactions and chats in this forum are related to things I see in her content that reaction-worthy.

Because her audience seems to be girls who are quite young and possibly impressionable, some of her content makes me a bit concerned.

No need to apologize, I agree that Ruby's content is mostly shoddy, reprehensible, and cringy. She should be criticised for so many things she does, especially because of her influence on others. I just thought that this was one of the very, very few videos where I'm glad to see her doing what she is doing.
