Yes. I've heard over the years that he used to tell all his boybands that if they were gay, they had to keep it an absolute secret and appear to date women. Never referred to his own situation.
It wouldn't shock me if he was the one to sell that story though: he's an absolute villian.

It really was a matter of time before someone sold Stephen out, as he was very out on the gay scene in Dublin back in ‘94. which it can’t be underestimated how brave that was for a young lad from Sherrif Street. after all, Boyzone's first No 1 was mainly bought by Louis and the late John Reynolds. As in, going from record store to record store buying the singles. I remember her being Louis’s Samantha Mumba solo prototype. For about 18 months, that picture was stuck in the window of EMI (?) offices on Aungier Street/Wexford Street. Then Louis (and Cowell?)decided the time was right to launch this “16” year old popstrel on us. Even though her own interviews had her as 16 for a lor longer than 12 months.
The song was, forgettable, but the music video - seen once and once only- was a sight to behold. Think Timmy Mallett’s Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny video with more pouting, anda principal performer with far less rhythm and grace.
And she was never heard from again.
