I'd redecorate the sitting room and put in a new kitchen. Perhaps look at dividing the huge bedroom into two, seeing as the corresponding room downstairs was previously two, going by the two fireplaces.

I always feel a bit sad when I see a house like that...as in how has it ended up in such a state? At some point it would have been someone's family home (albeit judging by the Pierrot wallpaper probably not since the 1980s!)

A flat that a German friend rented had a really deep half bath with a seat built in to it. You sat there and the edge of the bath came up to your shoulders so you could have a proper bath but sitting rather than lying. It felt rather luxurious with such deep water. It also doubled up as the shower compartment.

that sounds ideal! like in a jacuzzi, why is this not more common?!

I wouldn’t fancy living there - didn’t the delusional chap who built it massively annoy the locals? I’d imagine whoever lived there would be a complete pariah in the local community.

To be honest in the time it's taken to build, there have been so many other new builds and complete renovations of existing houses nearby that it's probably not an issue anymore.

So apparently, according to local gossip, the lighthouse inspired house in Croyde, the one that featured on Grand Designs and is currently on sale for 10 Million, has been bought by Harry Styles for his parents to live in.

I kind of hope this is true. From everything I've seen of Harry, he seems a decent sort and given that I don't currently possess a spare ten million English pounds, I can forgive him for buying MY dream house.

We used to have this wallpaper in the house I grew up in! I think it was in the kitchen. It had a really weird feel to it, almost plasticy which makes me wonder if it was a specialist bathroom/kitchen wallpaper. I'll have to ask my parents.

Oh yeh no denying it would be good for their needs.

But calling it a 5 bed when really 2 are one room accessed off another is a bit of a stretch for people without those needs

Yeah, better calling it a 4 and you could change the part at the front to an en-suite. The description gives some helpful suggestions e.g add a dressing room to master bedroom or do the en-suite thing for second room. At least they’re acknowledging it all, so many house descriptions I see are half arsed by the agents!

Also, interesting safari theme for the living room although I do like the feature fire place

I don't think the wall is missing from the floor plan. The description reads as if there is no wall?

And "bedroom 5" can only be accessed from bedroom 1 anyway.

It looks like the front part of the house is an extension according to the description. So they have added bedroom 5 onto bedroom 2 which looks like it may be set up for a carer. Then added a door from their main bedroom to that bedroom. Makes sense if you consider the needs they have.

I'd love a thread for fixtures/appliances from around the world. Some people use pvc portable soaking tubs instead, just pop in an inflatable bath cushion for a bit of added comfort.
