It’s beautiful but plagued by drugs, has a crime rate above the national average and is high on the deprivation scale.
What a shame. It’s going to be interesting to see how much that little house sells for at auction.

Someone will buy it as a holiday home or an Air BB. One less home for first time buyers.
That's not good. Here in Wales, holiday home owners have to pay double council tax which has meant quite a few smaller coastal properties have gone up for sale.

I wish they would do that here in Devon! I live in a really residential part of my seaside town - 1970s bungalows, nothing "quaint" at all, and even in my cul-de-sac of 22 houses, 4 are Air BnBs, mostly sat empty all winter.

A lot of Anglesey is the same, and Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula (called Cheshire on sea by some) is a ghost town during the winter. Local people can't afford to live in the places they have grown up in. When holiday homes and Air BnB's go on the market, they are usually at inflated prices, because the owners want to make a profit. Fortunately, because of the 200% increase in council tax on second homes, it has stopped new properties going on the market, being snapped up by holiday makers, and the new builds round here are only being sold to people who live and work in Wales.

They do in some parts of Devon. ( Torbay )
My friend inherited her mums flat in a residential village. She can’t sell it, so the Council class it as her second home and after it was empty for a year they doubled her council tax. Then they trebled it.

Council Tax Charges for Empty Properties in Torbay
  • First Year: Full Council Tax applies from the day the property becomes vacant.
  • After 1 Year: A 100% premium is added (doubling the charge).
  • After 2 Years: A 200% premium is added (tripling the charge).
  • After 5 Years: A 300% premium is added (quadrupling the charge).
  • After 10 Years: A 400% premium is added (quintupling the charge).

Wouldn't it be glorious to put this back together as one house? Currently split into 16 flats.

Id love it converted back and sole ownership. The outbuildings flats Id move family in to.

Not enough interior pics considering they're saying only two flats are occupied (and two lodges on separate leases). And with some of the grounds established as communal use I wouldn't be buying that any time soon even if I had Bezos money to spend on lawyers.

2 of the flats are also on long leases, 1 of which is in the east wing so I can't see a way this house can be converted back to a single family home. The owners of the long leases have any potential owner over a barrel.
