My son has a decent car, insurance is £250 a month, he also pays £250 a month towards his car that he put down £6000 for of his own money he has earned and saved and hes the same age as Seb.
He has a social life and decent holidays when work allows (forces), has nice clothes (not ones that cost £100s of pounds) and has over £20000 saved for a house deposit. He rarely drinks, has never done drugs. Random drug testing through his work from 18.
Hes lucky yes, as his housing costs are minimal but he has chosen to save for his future, rather than blowing it on alcohol, designer clothes etc. He dives as a hobby and has funded that himself from 16 and is now an instructor level through BSAC and PADI. Great group of friends in similar positions.
We taught him and his brother to budget from an early age. There are different ways to parent but there are also important life lessons teenagers need to learn. When they were younger we were parents, clear boundaries in place, he went to the same primary and secondary as E and T. Never had a problem with either school. Now they are older we are parents first, friends second.
If I was in the position they are money wise through scamming the general public, would I have been any different. No I don't think I would have. Otherwise they will never stand on their own 2 feet. Racket loves having the hold over Seb and he loves the financial gains he gets from it, its a business arrangement not a patchwork family.
