The results of the post mortem will be crucial, if Preston drowned he would have inhaled water. If the pathologist concludes he didn't drown then why did Varley lie?

That video gives me the ick. A grown man and accused perverted murderer collapsing and sobbing and whining high pitched like a child, Jurassic Park t shirt like a child, flapping his hands like a child, and the busy, professional nurse has to take precious time out of her job to placate him.

crying like a baby all while having allegedly done the things he’s accused of doing and still having the gall to throw this disgusting diva tantrum.

Honestly one of the most viscerally ick things I’ve seen in a while
Yes, I noticed the Jurassic Park t-shirt and also the crying for his Mum 😡
I wonder how he's coping on remand? I can't find which prison he's in but I saw that McGowan was in Frankland, which is known as Monster Mansion, along with Wakefield.
I reckon he's looking at 18 years minimum, if he's found guilty, as that is what the murderers of both Leiland James Corkhill and Elsie Scully Hicks got, and they are very similar cases, in fact this case is worse because of the SA.
Regarding McGowan, I really don't know if he'll be found guilty, in those other cases, the husbands were not found guilty of allowing the deaths.
In Elsie's case, I'm not even sure if the husband was charged with anything?

I am finding this all really hard to read but I want to see justice served for baby Preston.

Just to clear up one point - to be a head of year and safeguarding lead he would need some training and a DBS check, that's it. Having a DBS check only shows that the person doesn't have a criminal record, as far as I'm aware. He could still have been a monster.

Footage and photos of Varley being hysterical at the hospital in this article:

Jesus! What a manipulative, self-serving, pathetic excuse for a human being.
This is all to try to deflect and any panic or fear will be cos he knows he’ll be done for this. It’s all for himself. Poor staff. I’d want to step over him and let him crack on.

Not sure how niche the reference is but if anyone watched Summer Heights High he's behaving like the character Jamie when she wanted attention.
That was exactly what came to my mind too. He’s so ridiculous he’s like a parody. He’s on his knees wailing for attention when they asked him to hold his dead son’s hand to offer comfort. I’m undecided on his partner based on what we’ve seen so far but I am sure this bleep will be found guilty and I hope he is give a really hefty sentence.

I always wonder in cases like this where the evidence is released during trial instead of afterwards. It's usually if they think he's bang to rights (hate that phrase) and he absolutely will be locked up forever so they might as well release it now. It's kind of an usual move if he were found not guilty and that was in the public domain but they must be so certain he won't be

Social services ought to be ashamed of themselves like seriously this guy looks like he couldn't even look after a gold fish let alone a toddler... sick cant get over this! Pathetic excuse of a human being and the nurse saying i will go get your mummy WHAT!! A grown ass man doing the things hes done to this defenseless child and hes crying for his mummy i would of smacked him all over that hospital if he was my son!

You would hope so- there are apparently 70 prisoners in the uk currently serving one. Aside from the murder, he’s obviously got very serious sexual urges that almost certainly can’t be rehabilitated, plus he abused a position of power and authority. I hope they throw the book at him.

I just double checked there, and the murderers of Elsie (her real name was Shayla, I should say, that's her birth name) and Leiland James both got life sentences with a minimum of 18 years.

I think because of the sexual abuse he will get more. Savannah Brockhill got a minimum of 25 years for murdering Star Hobson.

Unfortunately it sounds as if he is extremely manipulative and can be convincing as he was working in a position of responsibility and had lots of people believing in him.

For far too many men their DBS just means that they haven't been caught yet. 😡

I think a whole life order requires a level of sadism if I am correct, I think this case does meet that threshold

I have always worked in frontline roles that require an enhanced DBS check. All a DBS can show is anything you have been caught for. Sadly there are plenty of people out there in roles they have specifically chosen so they can access vulnerable people with a clean DBS check.

Seeing him behave like that is even worse than I imagined. It is so theatrical & insincere. What an absolute monster.
One thing I am struggling to comprehend is how two people find each other and then come to the decision to adopt a child to abuse.
I know it happens, I work in CP but it’s another level of sick to take a vulnerable child in and do this.

Aside from utter disgust at that tub of lard flopping itself around wailing I just feel so heartbroken for Preston. His final moments robbed of their dignity by a histrionic creep, people around him that he hardly knew as he passed away. At least JV mum was there for him and it seems he had been cared for better by her than that monster and his pathetic boyfriend. I didn’t think it could get worse than what we already knew but I was wrong.
