I work in a role where I regularly interact with his foster mum, and she is honestly an angel among humans. I feel absolutely devastated for her, she is so devoted to her little ones.

How can these two specimens be pleading not guilty? What on earth is their defence going to be? There is physical evidence, video evidence, photographic evidence and god knows what else, so how do they plan to prove that none of it was them
I feel sick to my stomach at what I’ve already read of this case, so many people would have loved, nurtured and protected this precious baby.
But instead he was given to two monsters

I can only think they are pleading not guilty because they are getting off on hearing all the details in public.

Stick them in the main wing of the prison, none of this vulnerable prison/pon protection.

I never thought of that, but I bet you’re right. They are so disgusting that it will thrill them to hear all the gory details out loud. They will probably enjoy watching everyone’s reactions too.
People like them make me wish we still had the death penalty

I dont need to follow any more. I don’t need to read details of how they grape and abused this poor baby. This is enough.

They are monsters.

The social workers and the friend who he sent that video to belong in jail just as much as Varley does.

I cannot even comprehend this level of sick fuckery.
That poor little baby has been nothing but a duck-toy for these sadistic kh^nts - a helpless, living being they could torture and abuse with impunity. If they had been less arrogant and careless he could have been subjected to years of hideous torture. And they would have got away with it, and probably been praised for their loving patience with their obviously disabled child (which is how he would have been perceived - and ended up).

Preston should NEVER have been in this situation in the first place - and having been put int it, his situation should have been picked u and he should have been removed. His short life ended in pain and fear and I hope they rot in hell.

However, I'm sure that "lessons will be learned"

She must be tormented by what has happened to him. She will have grown to love him in the time he was with her - I know foster parents are expected to keep an emotional distance, but they are only human - and probably can't sleep for thinking about him. The details have broken many of us (me included - I'm not reading any more) - I can't imagine what this is doing to her.

I'm following the live reporting of this trial as I have many trials over the years, but my goodness this is awful. The description of injuries - such depravity and cruelty. That poor little baby.

I can’t follow the details on this - it’s too horrendous.
I will tune in for their sentencing and I hope it’s LONG.
Bless little Preston 💙

I’m just having a read of the live reporting for today. I’m quite taken aback by how rushed the adoption process seemed to be. Considering those two had no experience, with one of them not even able to hold him properly. Children in these situations are extremely vulnerable and should never just be handed out to any Tom, fool or Harry. What a duck up.

I’m wonder what the sister thinks of her brother Jamie… considering he was around her twins. How could she not have known what he was like? That poor baby boy.

Saw some of the updates today. My son is only 16 weeks old and I absolutely sobbed reading them and had to stop.

That poor little baby. He deserved a loving home and family and the system failed him terribly. His poor foster mother. She had him from weeks old and even though she knew it wouldnt be permanent the bond that forms on those quiet night feeds is for life. I cannot imagine how broken she must feel knowing she tried to raise alarms and was ignored. That said I dont believe anyone could have imagined the true horrors they subjected him to.

I cant follow the day to day updates anymore its just too heartbreaking. But I really hope they throw everything at both of them. Some people dont deserve the air they breathe.

Sweet boy I cant stop thinking about him every time I look at my baby. Its just absolutely heartbreaking 🤍

That piece of tit describing Preston as “just annoying” and “spoilt” in text messages. Poor baby had been taken away from his foster family where it was familiar and loving, no wonder he was upset during the night. 😞 This was within his first week living with them. Just so sad

I’ve read the updates today. It’s a bit puzzling how much it says they were “struggling” and all the messages they sent saying Preston was constantly crying yet the social worker had no concerns?!! Surely she would see the deterioration in him? Also the fact these monsters had totally unrealistic expectations of a baby that had already been through so much trauma- in utero drug exposure, separation from birth mum, painful milk allergy and reflux and then separation from his loving foster parents. Do the adoption agencies not explain how difficult it can be? Did they expect to be able to just abuse him and he wouldn’t be unhappy in between times? I can’t stop thinking about him and how scared he must have been, not knowing if anybody would be kind to him or if he would just be hurt every time someone came near him. Also it seems police had been contacted on one of his hospital admissions. Did people just take the video of him at face value and not check the date of it against his supposed accident or did that only become clear on forensic examination of the phone? At first I didn’t understand how they could plead not guilty but now I see they are probably going to deny the SA (or blame each other) and then say his injuries and death were due to frustration at not being able to settle him, trying to get manslaughter instead of murder. So far it seems there’s enough evidence to get them both for what they have done, I can’t see the defence being able to explain it away.

The nerve of Varley, blaming the foster parents, saying they spoilt Preston 🤬
The foster parents had 25 years of experience and McGowan had none and Varley only had experience of his sister's children.

You can't "spoil" small baby - and you can't "spoil" a child who is frightened in unfamiliar surroundings with unfamiliar people - all you can do is pour love and attention onto them until they know they are safe and then they will settle.

Very young children don't cry to try to manipulate people or to get their own way - they cry because they are experiencing some form of distress, and it is the parent/ carer's task to find out what it is and put it right.

I hope they get life, and that every day they spend in jail is a day of terror and pain.

Exactly! Trauma informed therapy hammers this home, are adoptive parents still not taught this? My friend adopted her children many years ago and for a long time was told her daughter had ADHD. She did her absolute best with that in mind but still problems and she looked into attachment disorders and that’s what it was. Years spent undoing the damage caused by the crap support they received. I don’t think these filth viewed Preston with any humanity nor had they prepared themselves- they just wanted to be seen as this great couple having a baby and then their nefarious reasons for adopting him as well. His sister being a sleep trainer, babies aren’t dogs to be trained, if they cry they need something even if it’s just to have someone to cry to. There was two of them in that house, they could have followed what they were told by the foster carers and done shifts to settle him. But we can’t even comment on what normal adoptive parents would face because these weren’t looking for a child to love.

Taking the physical and sexual abuse out of it they were totally unsuitable to parent poor little Preston. Preston couldn’t sleep long due to his acid reflux, it must have been agony for him every time he was laid down, no bloody wonder he hardly slept and screamed a lot. You can’t leave someone with acid reflux laying down. the foster parents lovingly picked him up and soothed him, exactly what he needed to relieve the burning. The men never gave him a loving and caring home, my heart bleeds for him, and I can’t bear to think about the physical abuse, the emotional abuse is traumatic enough. RIP little man, you deserved so much more 😓

They started the adoption process at the end of 2021, by July 2023 they’d been fast tracked to murder an innocent child that should never have crossed paths with either of them. It beggars belief. How many more like them are waiting in line as we speak?
