I posted this on the Real Life Crime thread, it's an interesting theory as to why the original jury was dismissed the other day.
The trial is due to restart on Monday, 27th April, at Preston Crown Court:

It's a horrible case. I did listen to The Trial episode before because as awful and heartbreaking as it is that poor baby deserves to have his story heard.

I really hope Preston and his family get the justice that they deserve. I can't understand why anyone would want to hurt an innocent and defenceless child who just wanted to be loved.

I'm thinking a big part of at least one of those men wanting a baby was to abuse him. There were photos of Preston's mole and genitals, there's no excuse in the world that makes that okay.
Even if he had a rash or whatever you wouldn't take a photo?

I agree. There’s no way he just woke up one day deciding to sexually abuse their baby. Those urges don’t just appear suddenly, they were already entrenched.

Will be interesting to see whether Varley had previous for any sort of accusations of inappropriate behaviour during his teaching career. His choice of job won’t be a coincidence.

Yeah I think they did want that and it is absolutely disgusting. Makes you feel proper sick thinking about it.

Yes, and I think McGowan-Fazakerley also worked with children, as a tutor or something?
I don't think I've seen what his job was exactly.
I suppose it's one reason they seemed good prospects as adoptive parents, they must have passed enhanced checks for their teaching/tutoring jobs?

This poor baby seemed to be healthy, happy and thriving while with his foster family.
Yet four short months after being given to the adopters, he had been terribly abused and finally murdered.
It goes without saying that his abusers are sick, vile, disgusting individuals :sick:
But I don’t understand why more alarm bells weren’t ringing for poor Preston. A child not previously known as ‘accident prone’ or ‘bruises easily’ is suddenly appearing at A&E on a regular basis. The foster mother reported that visits were being cancelled at short notice, or made as difficult as possible. This was a new home situation with inexperienced ‘carers’, so why weren’t they under closer supervision from the authorities?
Sadly, I also believe that this couple obtained a baby for the purposes of abuse. There is no way they adopted him with the intention of giving him a loving and secure upbringing, they wanted him for one reason only :cry:
Only someone already deviant and twisted could look at a baby and do what they clearly did to him.
My heart breaks for little Preston and the life he didn’t get.

In the trial podcast episode, they said he worked in Sales.

I fear they got away with this for so long because professionals (social workers and clinicians) involved would not want to be labelled as homophobic.

How does a child suddenly becoming “accident prone” when a change of caregiver happens not ring alarm bells? How did the social worker(s) not know about 111 calls made, not see 3 hospital admissions as a red flag? If a child who is in care and adopted is not closely monitored then what hope is there for other children? I’m sure “lessons will be learned”.

I doubt he was actually adopted as a child has to be with adopters for 10 weeks before they make the adoption application. The application is then lodged with the court and a court hearing date awaited. as he was only with them for 4 months, I suspect he was still a looked after child.

Therefore he would have been open to social care, had an allocated social worker who would have got alerts each time he presented at hospital. There should have been quite an intensive transition period from foster carers to adopters with numerous social worker visits once Preston would have been placed with these monsters.

the other red flag is when a child is placed with adopters they have to have permission to change the child’s first name. Was the social worker aware that one of the Dads was calling him something else?

They cancelled repeated meetings with Preston’s foster mother who is a very experienced carer. She contacted his social worker but his social worker didn’t do anything. Neither did she have any concerns about Preston’s repeated hospital admissions

Yes, according to the Lancs Live reporting of the trial, he was still a "looked after child", and a social worker was visiting weekly.
According to The Trial podcast, the name that Varley and McGowan used, Elijah, was Preston's middle name.

Ah ok, that’s more understandable/acceptable. Regarding the name I mean.

And then you’ve got people like that Adam frisby starting a petition to scrap the laws around surrogacy. ME ME ME, no thought for the child at all.
