To be honest it's kind of worked for him with me anyway, because I now have this visual story in my head about all that, and I'd subconsciously forgotten that it wasn't real until I read your comment 😡
Yeah I think it’s easy to do, you have to keep zooming in on details then zooming back out.
I fully believe the 36min call was a panicked “get our story together” so if you assume he starts blagging from that point, it’s easier to see the rest as lies.
As pp said, he is a baby all he would sick up is a bit of milk/babyfood. That wouldn’t smell so awful and it wouldn’t stink like uni halls (which is drunk adults). He has over egged this, why would he do that?

The cot bars incident is also suspicious - what baby falls asleep with legs dangling? They want us to believe Preston propelled himself over the cot edge on to his windpipe? The same baby who fell back and broke his arm when standing in his cot, coz he let go of one of JV’s hands, is now so strong and Co-ordinated he’s doing whole-body pull ups in his sleep?
But JMF was fed up of JV who cant just get on with anything, he was cooking a chicken, so he just came in, said “oh” and “lie him down” and ducked off back to his roast.

I wonder if the dramatics about the smell of the sick are because Preston’s perforated bowel at that point had made it smell like faeces so it smelt worse than normal sick?
He seems to have a keen sense of smell. This is his second reference to smell - the other being the smell of university halls. Lies are usually a mixture of the truth and embellishment or outright fiction. For something to smell so bad this was clearly an out of the ordinary thing. Events certainly didn’t unfold as either of them are saying they did, but I expect the recollection of the smell is correct.

Just to add I believe this because I have strong scent memory. So I think it’s possible there was a horrid smell but it wasn’t actually sick it was something worse :(

Usually in these cases you either find previous web searches, pornographic images or message between spouses how they want to hurt the child (JV only wrote one) or something that indicates they were depraved pre Preston. They were middle class couple. No drink or drugs etc.
How they went from 0 - 100 is beyond me. The police could have got something from the previously to adopting Preston but nope, zilch. Why they ruined their lives (good jobs, nice house) in 4 months is something I can’t comprehend.

Or they covered their tracks well in the past. We’ll see what comes out after they are sentenced.

My son died at home from a seizure (many years ago) in his sleep, just before his second birthday. We had called an ambulance, and by the time we got to the hospital both my husband and I had separate police officers with us for all of the time we were at the hospital. They also removed my infant daughter and took her to the children's ward. Whilst we were at the hospital the police also conducted a search of our home, where they seized things like baby bottles that were waiting to be washed and his bedding. As my son had a history of repeated, prolonged seizures, confirmed by the doctors at the hospital, we were free to go once everything was over. So I can see how they were arrested immediately.

Just to say, all.of the above was done very sensitively - and it felt like my police officer was there to offer support, rather than to be 'watching' me
Sorry to hear this ❤

Reading through the first trial, I didn't realise that they had cancelled visits with Sandra Cooper (foster mum) and had made 2 complaints about her (that another foster carer was staying at her house and she was discussing Preston in front of her to JV & JMF, and that she had invited another couple and their child to a meeting at soft play who had wanted to adopt Preston themselves).
They said that the foster mum who was staying at the house had previously fostered Preston's sister, I wonder if that's why the jury was discharged? The day after that was discussed the trial was stopped.
I don't think they made much mention of them falling out in this new trial? Obviously why they had no qualms about telling the lie about "Free Willy" if the relationship had already soured.

JV was also slagging her off to his friend, claiming Sandra had "spoilt him" and "smothered him" going to every cry, and he "didn't want to repeat what the carers did" (regarding picking Preston up at nap time when he cried". He told the police he believed the carers "had missed a lot" when queried about Preston being healthy when he was with them. She was supposed to have 3 visits after he moved in with the monsters and they cancelled 2, so she had to complain to the social worker and managed to see him one last time.
She must have been raging when she heard them both make the Free Willy accusation 💔

I can understand that some may think there isn’t enough to convict JMF of the SA charges, but the evidence against him for the child cruelty and allowing a death is compelling imo.
The fact he stayed with him for 2 years after, his lies about the condition of Preston, the arm break he witnessed, the photographs he was sent, his DNA being found (the jury will have heard more about this than we have), knowing exactly what Varley’s temper was like (the jury have been shown messages between them highlighting it), the cot incident…
If I was on the jury I’d be wondering why so many staff at the hospital managed to spot a slap mark on Preston’s leg, that was still visible at autopsy, yet JMF didn’t? Or he did and he’s still chosen to stay with someone capable of slapping a baby hard enough to leave a hand shaped bruise.

Well they had to isolate Preston from her because she would have been on to them. And they were right, she was straight down the court after they tried to say she was behind “free Willy“.

I think JMF will walk. Based on the reporting, I don't think enough has been said to convict him of SA.

I noticed that JV was also charged with possession of an indecent pseudo image of a child. I wasn't sure what that meant so I looked it up. It means an AI or otherwise created p*rnographic pic, but not an actual photo of a real child. Dirty b 🤢

If he'd already been sick at JVs mum's, and he only had a bottle after getting home, there wouldn't have been much to sick up!
Exactly.
Also, if he WAS being sick out of his mouth and nose, you wouldn't lie him on his back where he could choke, would you....? Make it make sense.

Yes, even leaving him lying down to go and unlock the door doesn’t make any sense. Neither does reaching into a small babies throat if they’re being sick 🙄 you don’t block airways to clear airways.

If Preston didn't die of SA then he was dying of a perforated bowel...caused by... SA.
I can't see how they can explain his death away...they are relying on 'seizures'.

Unfortunately so do I, but he will still be looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
You have to remember how the Crown Prosecution Service operates.
Nobody ends up in court unless the CPS considers that there is a strong case for prosecution.

I can’t believe after all this evidence we’ve heard that people think JMF will walk.

What’s your reasonable doubt?

Exactly, I don't even have kids, but surely you would lay him over your lap face down so it could drain out?

Quoting myself here, but we saw in Letby's case that she wasn't initially prosecuted for some murders because there wasn't a strong case and I think another was dismissed by the judge.

The prosecution has to persuade me he is guilty and I haven't seen enough evidence of SA. Appreciate the jury might be seeing more though.
