We found out privately at 17 weeks and then backed up what they’d said at the 20 week scan. I didn’t want to buy anything before that in case I jinxed it but also wanted to buy some cute girlie things as well as neutrals. I could never go through without knowing, I’m too much of a control freak!I definitely feel like it's a bit early at the minute with only being 14 weeks and I don't think I would convinced they were right if I did it this early so seems a bit pointlessI think I will do it at 16 weeks though.
I want to be organised and know what I can buy etc and I'm just being impatient. I've waited so so long for these moments that I just get too excited
Yeah that's me, I need to be in controlWe found out privately at 17 weeks and then backed up what they’d said at the 20 week scan. The clothes girls really areYeah that's me, I need to be in controlthe thought of a surprise fills me with chaos. I have bought a couple of neutral things but nothing much. I'm the same girl clothes are beautiful and I just want to know if I can buy them or not. I would actually really like a boy but girls clothes are so much better
Yeah I agree, baby boys clothes are like none existent or just really boring. I don't want to dress a boy in a baby grow full of tractors! And the neutral stuff is very few and far between. Really life 2024 problemsThe clothes girls really are
I feel like we don’t need to buy too much new this time with us having our second boy, but I’d like some bits that are only worn by the new baby. But going into my local a couple of days ago Tesco it’s like baby boys don’t even exist. They have this tiny neutral section that’s just awful.. and then so many beautiful girls bits!! They’ve shoved the baby boy clothes on the end of older boys clothes but there’s barely anything there and what is there is awful and ugly
This is so shallow I know but it’s one of the reasons I want a girlYeah I agree, baby boys clothes are like none existent or just really boring. I don't want to dress a boy in a baby grow full of tractors! And the neutral stuff is very few and far between. Really life 2024 problems
Yeah that's my thinking as well, I wanted a boy but after seeing the clothes I just think nah, boring and utterly dull !. Can't bare character clothing, so ugly. Yet if a girl wants to wear a Barbie jumper I'm all for it. I am not even a girly girl myself but in all my favourited items basket it's all pink flowery girly girl stuff. This is so shallow I know but it’s one of the reasons I want a girlI’m bored to death of vehicles/monsters/grey/navy and then as they grow up, Minecraft/marvel/spiderman/hulk etc gimme florals and dusty rose hues
I was the same. I think it’s maybe a bit controversial to admit, but I really wanted a girl and did have a pang of disappointment when we found out he was a boy. I very much got over it within minutes and he’s the greatest gift, but I’m glad I found out before and could have those feelings, get over them and then get excited for him. Whereas this time I genuinely don’t mind what we have so think I’d like to wait for a surprise.I like only having to decide one set of names (having my second boy, why are boy names so hard) and this time round we (probably actually more me ) wanted to know if I could buy girly cute pink things or not
But really you can buy any super girly/boy clothes once baby is here anyway
With my first I did have some gender disappointment when we found out at the scan but it’s something I got over fairly quickly, I think I preferred knowing before rather than potentially being disappointed and sad the second he was born?

I didn’t want to set my heart on a girl/boy, choose their names, clothes, plan their room and then have to do everything differentCan I ask - how did you decide you wanted to find out the sex? I feel like I do as I’m a planner / more logical (eg only have to think of one set of names) but my boyfriend wants to wait. Others have also said they wanted to wait until birth.
I really really wanted a girl and just wanted to mentally prepare in case it would turn out it’s a boy. And since this will be our only child I wanted to do nursery, clothes etc. in the right vibe, didn’t want to go all neutral. I found out around week 14 after NIPT but if I could do an early test I would (they don’t exist in my country). At NS she couldn’t say anything about the gender yet as it was too early. I was extremely impatient. Can I ask - how did you decide you wanted to find out the sex? Ohhh I would normally agree but I went into Next a week ago and newborn boys selection was actually sooooo much better! Maybe it was just better stocked but they had so many cute stuff I almost regretted a girl for a second. The clothes girls really are

I love some of the boys stuff next has right now but my husband doesn’t want to pay the priceOhhh I would normally agree but I went into Next a week ago and newborn boys selection was actually sooooo much better! I think if you possibly have a preferred gender then maybe it’s better to find out before. Once you give birth in the days and weeks afterwards there’s a lot going on and the possible baby blues and random crying and I wouldn’t have wanted any sort of gender disappointment on top of that 🥲 that’s my thoughts on it anyway!Thank you for all the replies. I think the posters saying about being able to get over the (short lived) disappointment if it’s not the one you were hoping for is ringing true for me. I feel like it’s going to be so overwhelming in the post-birth moments that if it’s the “wrong” sex it will just seem so much worse, but then more than likely I’m just going to be so relieved he/she is here that it won’t matter and there’s going to be all sorts of other emotions going on anyway. Probably worrying for nothing so I can take this off my long list of other things I’m worrying about!
I wanted a boy and everyone was telling me she would be a boy, when we found out she was a girl I was quite upset because I thought I would disappoint her. I’m not girly, or into make up, I would rather be playing football or cricket than with a Barbie and wouldn’t be able to relate to her. Silly I know.Thank you for all the replies. It’s ok to be disappointed, I was gutted when my 3rd was a boy. Cried for weeks, literally weeks which feels ridiculous now esp as everyone says they got over it which in a day or less but at the time it felt very overwhelming. I wasn’t that I didn’t want a boy, I just thought he’d be my last and was mourning almost for a girl I’d never get and that mother/daughter relationship I’d never have.Thank you for all the replies. I'm a knitter, I'm having a NIPT on Tuesday and will then be excited to buy some coloured wool. I'm going to keep it a secret from the family and let my son do a gender reveal cannon (though he'll have serious gender disappointment if it's a girl)Can I ask - how did you decide you wanted to find out the sex? I feel like I do as I’m a planner / more logical (eg only have to think of one set of names) but my boyfriend wants to wait. Others have also said they wanted to wait until birth.
Hahahah yep I stand by you! I might be one yetjustice for boy mums
I wonder this too, and are they worth it ?Speaking of scans! When would everyone say is the best time for a 4D scan?
