Anyone who has a physically demanding job, when are you going on mat leave? I work for the NHS and do 13 hour long shifts, but I’m considering working up until 37 weeks and taking annual leave until 39 then starting mat leave but I’m worried I won’t last that long 🤣 I just can’t afford to take a year off so want as much time afterwards as possible
I also work for the NHS. I’m currently 31+2. I’m going on annual leave from 36+3 and mat leave starting at 39 weeks.

It’s still fairly early for you to be feeling things regularly, but I go by the rule of 5 kicks every 2 hours. However, they do say that it’s your pattern you should be aware of, so if you’re feeling morning and evening then that’s fine for you. Just check with your midwife at your next appt

I would definitely speak to work (HR/health and safety), depends how nice they are 😖 but mine would definitely be accommodating about that, especially if you’re working from home effectively at the mo. At least ask and see what they can say? I am not sure if a midwife can provide a letter or recommendation but again worth asking 💕.
thank you! My manager is fab she’s not keen on me coming into work anyway and mixing with all these different people so late on.
I’ve just got back from my appointment and baby is measuring too big so being referred for a scan, and physio to help with the pain so I’ve dropped her a message to let her know. Hopefully can get out of them next week 🤣🤣 it’s agony!!

Do they warn you before they look at the genitals? I don't want to accidentally find out that way.
my sonographer (NHS) asked before starting the scan if we wanted to know and also asked again before doing that part of the scan to make sure!
He was great let us take pics and videos and got her moving around doing a little photoshoot for us, really grateful for that as it saved us money on a private scan 😂

We've just moved to the US and we met an OB and she was offering induction at 38 weeks. I had to stop myself from laughing. I haven't even gone past 36 weeks but I can definitely see where the US has higher complications/mortality with all the interventions they have already offered me!
So weird! I follow a few ladies who were TTC at the same time as me and now had their babies (US based) and they were all induced. The comments honestly! So many women saying “omg I’m 38 weeks and no signs of labour yet.. what shall I do?!” It’s scary!

Finally settled on and ordered our travel system. After a panic as it was going out of stock til December in almost every place 😮💨. feel great relief as I have not bought anything else except drawers so at least now the baby now has somewhere I can lay her if nothing else 😂😂😂
Which one did you get?

Ours came last week and currently sitting in the house waiting to be put together.

How do women get through the last weeks of pregnancy functioning at work? I'm 33 weeks today and have 5.5 weeks left before maternity leave. I loathe to go off earlier but really don't know how I'm going to get through the final weeks. I have an office job and can WFH so it's not even that bad. I really admire women with physical jobs because I wouldn't survive.

Thank you. I shall check this out. Hopefully it has some tips about morning sickness. Not been feeling great and getting worried about throwing up on the commute. What makes me super worried is I get the train with up to four colleagues - including the MD! (depends if we bump into each other on the platform, we usually do).
Congratulations!!! I wish I could help, but I was sick from weeks 7-18ish and it came back at week 22. In 31 weeks and was sick 6 times today.

I actually had super bad anxiety the first months of sickness cause I knew it could come on at any time. My poor dog has seen me throw up in so many bushes, beaches and paths on our daily walks. But at least no one else was around.

Oxytocin 😆 Try hand expressing/nipple stimulation, sex or even just watching a really good film, using a gym ball to help lower baby into the pelvis. And listen to your body, if it is telling you to rest don’t feel guilty for not being active as you will need your energy for labour.
Unfortunately none are guaranteed, but encouraging that oxytocin production is a good start ☺
Thank you I shall be giving these a go😂🤞🏼

Can anyone tell me when they got their MATB1 form for second pregnancy? Im 21 weeks now and thought i got it first time round around 20 weeks off my midwife but im not seeing her again until 28 weeks. So just a bit concerned and probably worrying for nothing
You can ring the community midwives office number and they will either post one out to you or you can pick it up from the clinic ☺ usually it’s given between 20-24 weeks but most areas don’t offer a 24 week appointment unless it’s first baby ☺

I lived South of Manchester at the time, I think this was a retired midwife who set up a "birthing support" business. If you Google along those lines you should find what you're looking for. It wasn't as gross as you think 🤣🤣
Definitely going to look it up!! 🤩

I can't get enough of ice lollies. Has anyone else had this craving? I'm feeling sick if I drink too much water and I don't want to have fizzy juice all the time. But today I've had 3 calipos 😂😂

Looking for some advice!
Second pregnancy. Positive tests 28 and 29 of October. 100% had period first week of September. Cannot for the life of me remember if I had a period end of Sept/beginning Oct.
Midwife booking appointment next week.
How will she figure out my EDD considering I don't know the first day of my LMP. Can I request an early scan?? then have the 12 week 20 week scan as normal? Stressed!

We had our names for a loooong time but each time someone asked we just said ugh no idea please send suggestions. I of course ignored every suggestion, but there was no way I was telling anyone as I know what people are like!

Did you do any pregnancy tests before the positive ones? If not and your first positive was showing on the 28th then you (probably depending on your normal cycle) ovulated about 2 weeks before then? So you can work out EDD from then. If you’re wrong they’ll work it out at your 12 week scan based on baby’s measurements anyway
Nope, no tests before the positive ones. Had the usual sore boobs feeling like I was due on (usual signs that come with my regular cycles). Found myself not liking onion on my cheeseburger so knew something was up 😂 thank you for replying lovely x

Thanks for the advice ladies - I called our midwife hotline and she said it doesn’t sound enough to be waters and more likely I’m just experiencing incontinence as baby is so heavy at this stage. The joys! I’ll keep an eye out though for anything more “gushy” 🥴

Well, as expected, my parents have had a bad reaction to my announcement and I’m officially Disappointing Daughter of the Year. 🤷🏻‍♀️ So glad I’m speaking to my psychologist in an hour. 🤣
So sorry to hear this, I can’t comprehend how they could possibly think this!
