I always pick up a sample pot from the GP in advance and do my sample the morning of my hospital appointment at home. So much less stressful.
I forgot to take a pot as I left last time and now I'm annoyed I'll have to do it while I'm there. Doing it at home before hand is so much easier. Although at my last appointment the midwife didn't take the pot from me, she just dipped the stick in and left me sitting there holding my wee 😂

Has anyone on this thread used reusable cloth nappies before? I much prefer the idea of them to disposable ones but I don't want to invest in them until I've heard people confirm that they don't leak 😬

I haven’t, but have a look at your local council website. I found a lot of councils do discounts/money towards reusable nappies on the nappy lady website. My council offered £30 with no minimum spend - I spent it all on reusable wipes instead of the nappies.

I’m fortunate not to have experienced any morning sickness, but I wondered if anyone else becomes nauseous after eating? I’m really struggling with this. It doesn’t matter what I eat, after about 20 mins I start feeling really sick to the point sometimes of retching. If you have, can you share anything you did to improve it please!

For when you get home, stock up on paracetamol and ibruprofen. You can only buy 32 at a time and potentially need 8 para and 6 ibru a day for the first week or two so you’ll want to buy them over the course of a few trips.

I’ve been trying to stock up everytime I go to the shop but it doesn’t add up much does it?!
Was it you that recommended some silicone scar patches?

Yes, you want to wait until it’s healing and the incision is all closed and together. I had ones you could put on and leave, shower with etc but seems to be different types.
Last time I had strips but they were slightly short so this time I’ve got a roll you can cut to length from Amazon. Don’t know how good it is yet though.

Anyone know how I can calculate how much SMP I will get after tax etc?

For the 90% of your wage then you should be able to calculate what that would be and use an income calculator online.

I think (but I’m not 100% sure) that you shouldn’t pay tax/ NI on the SMP rate as it’s less than the 12k ish a year you can earn.

For me, I imagine my tax code will then change in April as I’ve probably paid a bit too much tax already

That's what I assumed, it's so low that you won't pay tax. But everywhere online says tax and NI is deducted

Had an appointment this morning and told consultant about the frequent panic attacks I’ve been having and how overwhelmed I’m feeling with the thoughts of facing it alone & she was so horrible and dismissive. I ended up crying and all she said was I think you’ll survive.
Come home and genuinely feel worse than when I went in.

I wonder if they mean it’s just a taxable income and your final tax for the year is based on the whole income? So if you earnt £25k in total with £8k being SMP you pay tax on the £13k over the threshold?

I’m sorry they dismissed you like that, that’s so poor. Is there anyone else you can speak to ?

That is awful, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'd be making a complaint to the hospital and telling your midwife. And I certainly wouldn't be allowing that consultant to see me again.

Don’t know if you guys get these where you are, but every so often we get charity bags through the door to donate clothes, shoes toiletries etc. I got one yesterday so I’ve basically went full on nesting mode and cleared out my whole wardrobe. I had a bunch of stuff for vinted but can’t even be bothered with the hassle so just donating everything. My husband is going to come home and wonder what’s happened 😂

I get it’s just a job for some people, but I don’t get why some of these doctors and nurses are clearly not people persons. The nurse I had this morning was really cheeky at first but then was fine later on, maybe she hadn’t had her coffee yet! I feel like for pregnant woman they should be understanding, especially for first time mums, no one knows what to expect and we look at them for support and advice but often I feel like they just tell you to get on with it.

I’m completely fine thankfully! Had to wait in maternity assessment before doing the test and it was really warm so started to feel a bit ill then and think I was just over thinking it. I was sick as soon as I finished the drink but only a tiny bit and then seemed to be fine after that. The room was cooler and I took my work laptop and iPad so was distracted by doing things which probably helped. I was supposed to be going to work after but just came home to bed to have a chill day.

One thing it has made me dread going into hospital for having baby now though. Why are people so annoying? One woman spent most of the time on the phone speaking to her other kids, really loudly and if that’s not bad enough she kept asking them what they’ve had to eat whilst we are sitting there fasting!! 😂
Well done on swerving work! 😂 when I was having my first one someone’s partner was in there eating a sausage roll and drinking a coffee from the cafe - in a room full of fasting women. Mr R spoke loudly about his disgust 😂

Have you had your results?

That is awful, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’d definitely complain about that person and how they treated you. No one should be made to feel that way

Please google your areas perinatal team. My perinatal midwife was amazing and really helped my mental health when pregnant and are continuing to help even now I’ve had the baby

Don’t give up on getting help, just because one person sees the job as a job and that’s all and doesn’t care about people’s feelings and mental health - there are people out there who most certainly do care and will definetely help.

Hope you start to feel better soon. The fact you’re scared to do it alone just shows you already care so much about your baby x

Has anyone else heard this? Our midwife told us that Entonox (gas and air) is being shown to be causing infertility in midwives and paramedics! Something to do with the stuff that the patient breathes out after using it. It doesn’t affect the patient themselves but it does affect those in the room. So at my hospital they aren’t using gas and air in small rooms?! So weird

Nope never heard about this. Does that include the delivery room then? I actually had some gas and air earlier, don’t think it helped just made me feel sick lol

Only one person brought her partner but he was told he had to wait outside in the cafe area and she was allowed to go sit with him during the 2 hour wait. The rest of us without a partner had to wait in the same room. No results yet, I noticed the app was updated at 1pm and again at 6pm there but nothing is on so I don’t actually know what’s been updated!
