I’ve literally never listened to a podcast in my life, but I’m feeling the urge to. Any recommendations? Can be about anything. I have fairly broad interests. I would probably not want to listen to youtuber podcasts unless they were, like, mainstream good, if that makes sense.

If you want something a bit different... My dad wrote a porno is a bit of banter, funny and extremely popular. I think it's called that

In true crime YouTubers, there are some suggestions too if true crime is your thing.

My dad wrote a porno is really good - I didn’t think I would like it but it’s genuinley laugh out loud funny and it’s presenters very sweet and compelling.

If you are starting from scratch as you say, I recommend starting with a classic, ‘serial’ (season 1 that is - make sure) I think it’s the most downloaded of all time still and in this case the mainstream has it right. Really intresting story, brilliantly produced, fantastic journalism. The story is very compelling though it can feel awakwad talking about it in theses terms as it concerns real people. But you have to check out the first series. The other two it’s up to you - the second is not very good at all and the third is ok but nothing on the brilliance of the first, they are not connected to one another.

If you like that I recommend the show it is a spin off from ‘this American life’ - episodes vary in quality but it’s probably my favourite podcast of all time. Each one has a theme with a variety of different stories - some truely incredible, jaw dropping types but even the most banal on paper are often facisnating because they are so well told. Their journalists dig up some real gold, it’s worth listening to old archive episodes for some of the best - I can point you in that direction and their are lists on their website. And the production and journalistic standards are just as high as serial.

Jon ronson has done some fantastic podcasts that may only be available on audible but are well worth listening to : “the butterfly effect” and especially “the last days of August” - both about the porn industry in different ways. He approaches everything in such a open minded way and so empatheticallty and compassionately and it’s a truly facisnating listen.

A series called “slow burn” did an interesting one on watergate and another intersting one on Monica Lewisnsky - it breaks down each scandal into tiny pieces which helps to get your head around the details and also understand how bat tit crazy both events were.

I could name many more - I realise these are mainly documentary esque as I personally think that telling true stories is the podcast’s greatest strength- but there are plenty more culture / celebrity interview ones I could name that I like. And some quite niche ones for my interests in music, film etc (there are likely to be ones for yours too if you search about)

I highly recommend '' Mile Higher'' ( They also have YouTube videos ) .
This is the only podcast I'm listening, not a big podcast fan.
It's about conspiracy theories, mysterious events that happened in the past etc. Each episode is about 1h long, but they also talk about lots of other interesting topics in each episode. There is like this main topic plus at the beginning they talk about other stuff, but you can skip it easily.
Some of my faves were Rockefeller & Rothschild families, Princess Diana death conspiracy, MH370 flight disappearance , Scientology conspiracy ( I did more research after listening to this and will never ever watch any Tom Cruise movies, he is a sick person and should be in prison ).

I’ve started listening to the Titanic one but the guy keeps saying “supposebly” and it’s doing my head in ? How do you become a grown ass man and still say supposebly.

I love True Crime podcasts - I see someone above recommended the first series of Serial - that's what got me into True Crime podcasts in the first place and is a great place to start. I also recommend Dirty John the podcast, The Teachers Pet and Real Crime Profile. The latter covers loads of different cases and the presenters are good, although they do have one woman called Laura Richards as a presenter who is annoyingly smug and self-promoting.

Hey, I'm pretty new and really enjoying getting to know the place :)

I listen to a *lot* of podcasts (and audiobooks) and was wondering if you lot enjoy a podcast? What do you love/recommend?
What don't you love/avoid?

My favourite has to be no such thing as a fish. Discovered it in May and have listened to them all now. Found it helped me when I was having an anxiety attack. Took my mind off it and made me laugh

Classic, that's a great podcast- the book is a good gift too!

I find podcasts good for my MH stuff... I can't get a thing done without something to listen to! I can't bear quiet.

I only recently started listening to podcasts so I would love some more recommendations. I love chris & rosie Ramsay's podcast, I just laugh all the way through! I like crime podcasts but I'm struggling to find the right one for me. I tried the UK True Crime but I found the guy quite boring to listen to. I've also tried My Favourite Murder which I do like but I get annoyed by Karen & Georgia not always knowing the facts 🙈
