I highly recommend '' Mile Higher'' ( They also have YouTube videos ) .
This is the only podcast I'm listening, not a big podcast fan.
It's about conspiracy theories, mysterious events that happened in the past etc. Each episode is about 1h long, but they also talk about lots of other interesting topics in each episode. There is like this main topic plus at the beginning they talk about other stuff, but you can skip it easily.
Some of my faves were Rockefeller & Rothschild families, Princess Diana death conspiracy, MH370 flight disappearance , Scientology conspiracy ( I did more research after listening to this and will never ever watch any Tom Cruise movies, he is a sick person and should be in prison ).

If you want something a bit different... My dad wrote a porno is a bit of banter, funny and extremely popular. I think it's called that

In true crime YouTubers, there are some suggestions too if true crime is your thing.

I really like listening to GaryVee. Although I don't run a business myself, I find it so motivating for when I know I have a rubbish day ahead at work.

I also like "Gals on the Go", "Paychecks & Balances" and "Stuff Mom Never Told You".

I love True Crime podcasts - I see someone above recommended the first series of Serial - that's what got me into True Crime podcasts in the first place and is a great place to start. I also recommend Dirty John the podcast, The Teachers Pet and Real Crime Profile. The latter covers loads of different cases and the presenters are good, although they do have one woman called Laura Richards as a presenter who is annoyingly smug and self-promoting.

My dad wrote a porno is really good - I didn’t think I would like it but it’s genuinley laugh out loud funny and it’s presenters very sweet and compelling.

If you are starting from scratch as you say, I recommend starting with a classic, ‘serial’ (season 1 that is - make sure) I think it’s the most downloaded of all time still and in this case the mainstream has it right. Really intresting story, brilliantly produced, fantastic journalism. The story is very compelling though it can feel awakwad talking about it in theses terms as it concerns real people. But you have to check out the first series. The other two it’s up to you - the second is not very good at all and the third is ok but nothing on the brilliance of the first, they are not connected to one another.

If you like that I recommend the show it is a spin off from ‘this American life’ - episodes vary in quality but it’s probably my favourite podcast of all time. Each one has a theme with a variety of different stories - some truely incredible, jaw dropping types but even the most banal on paper are often facisnating because they are so well told. Their journalists dig up some real gold, it’s worth listening to old archive episodes for some of the best - I can point you in that direction and their are lists on their website. And the production and journalistic standards are just as high as serial.

Jon ronson has done some fantastic podcasts that may only be available on audible but are well worth listening to : “the butterfly effect” and especially “the last days of August” - both about the porn industry in different ways. He approaches everything in such a open minded way and so empatheticallty and compassionately and it’s a truly facisnating listen.

A series called “slow burn” did an interesting one on watergate and another intersting one on Monica Lewisnsky - it breaks down each scandal into tiny pieces which helps to get your head around the details and also understand how bat shit crazy both events were.

I could name many more - I realise these are mainly documentary esque as I personally think that telling true stories is the podcast’s greatest strength- but there are plenty more culture / celebrity interview ones I could name that I like. And some quite niche ones for my interests in music, film etc (there are likely to be ones for yours too if you search about)

I listen to probably too many podcasts so sorry if this list is a bit long. You'll also see there is a bit of a theme with the paranormal...

Astonishing Legends - (USA) Covers paranormal, myths, aliens, that sort of thing.

Dear Joan and Jericha -(UK) Really weird agony aunts with terrible advice (satire)

Knock Once for Yes - (UK) Paranormal based, they visit historical places and tell the ghost stories of the place.

The Last Podcast on the Left - (USA) True Crime, Paranormal - but funny

Lets Not Meet - (USA) Real stories of really creepy things happening to people.

Off Menu - (UK) Two comedians talk to a guest about their dream meal

Page 7 - (USA) Pop culture and celebrity gossip

Drag Race Recap - (USA) Re capping the show Ru Pauls Drag Race - Currently covering the UK version of the show.

The Adam Buxton Podcast - (UK) Adam Buxton interviews people

The Parapod - (UK) Two comedians discuss the paranormal, one believes, one doesn't.

The Rewatchables - (USA) Panel of journalists talk about their favorite films that they like to re watch.
Joan & Jericha is HILARIOUS. Apparently series 2 is on the way. It’s Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine.

I only recently started listening to podcasts so I would love some more recommendations. I love chris & rosie Ramsay's podcast, I just laugh all the way through! I like crime podcasts but I'm struggling to find the right one for me. I tried the UK True Crime but I found the guy quite boring to listen to. I've also tried My Favourite Murder which I do like but I get annoyed by Karen & Georgia not always knowing the facts 🙈
True Crime podcasts are such a minefield! I really don't like MFM either, they're annoying and it's poorly researched.
I've been listening to podcasts for years and some have come and gone (I unsubscribe if the crimes or criminals are sensationalised or the writing is terrible or insensitive etc), but one I've always loved is 'Casefile'. Bonus points for bring neither American or US-centric. 'Criminal' with Phoebe Judge is also a goodun, beautifully written. Same for 'Someone Knows Something' (bonus points for being Canadian- so many interesting accents!).

I hope that's helpful? Lemme know how you get on, I can probably recommend you some more you'd enjoy.

(Apologies for not seeing this thread earlier- I searched but must have missed it!)

Love love love Joan and Jericha. Julia Davis is my absolute idol 🥰

If you’re an Alan Partridge fan then the fan run Monkey Tennis is a good listen.

Two Shot Podcast is another good one. Actor Craig Parkinson (Misfits, Lind of Duty etc) hosts. Chats to others actors. Really great.

Bunk Bed. Weird and funny conversations with Patrick Marber and Peter Curran and different guest each week.

If you’re a fan of Line of Duty then the fan run Shrine of Duty is a great listen!

The Chernobyl podcast that accompanied the tv show was also great.
Monkey Tennis did my head in. It was like they didn’t get any of the jokes at all. They’d spend 10 minutes debating something basic from an episode when it was abundantly clear that Steve Coogan was using whatever it was to make a satirical point in the show. I still listened to the lot of them though 🤔

Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast - been going for years so there’s a massive back catalogue. A chat podcast where RH (a comedian from the 90’s, if you’re young 😂) talks to well known people. Mostly comedians but some actors and writers too. Funny and interesting, there are a few misses but they are mostly hits. They’re about 70mins long on average.

All Killa, No Filla - Serial killer podcast done by two women (one manc, one Welsh). Both comedians. Quite well done and chatty, they do meander off topic a lot so possibly not for you if you find that sort of thing annoying. There have been about a hundred episodes. Generally they cover a killer per episode but for some of the big ones (like the Wests), they do them in multiple parts over a number of episodes. Again about an hour each episode.

Scandal - The original true crime podcast. Brilliant. Follows a single case each series.

Evil Genius - A panel thing (again comedy) presented by Russell Kane (don’t let that put you off 😉). They choose a person from history, discuss facts about them (some known, some not so known) and debate whether they were evil or a genius.

The Beauty Brains - A podcast by two cosmetic formulating chemists that discusses beauty product ingredients and trends in the industry, as well as debunking myths and ‘insta’ fads.

Giles Coren has no idea - Giles Coren (Times columnist and food writer) and his wife, Esther Walker discuss ideas for his weekly column. Quite funny and warm. You need to have a dry sense of humour for this one as it could be sometimes construed as offensive.

FWIW, I didn’t like My dad wrote a porno or the Chris & Rosie Ramsay ones. Don’t get me wrong, the stuff above isn’t highbrow but they were just too juvenile, sniggery and a bit try hard for me. So, just a nod if you like MDWAP or the Ramsay offering, you might not enjoy my suggestions.

I recommend downloading the BBC Sounds app. Then you can search across all of their radio output and listen to programmes after they have been broadcast, inc. drama and talk shows. Radio 2 has a lot of good music documentaries. For example they had one on Andy Williams I really enjoyed. I often listen to BBC London programmes after they have been broadcast as they play too much music now so I fast forward through the music and just listen to the chat and interviews.

I really recommend the Jeffrey Epstein podcast I mentioned called ‘broken’ if you like that sort of true crime. It’s totally horrifying but not at all exploitative of the victims pain like some podcasts. Its style is actually quite similar to serial s1 and dirty John which I loved too. Only 4 episodes have come out so far so it’s each feels quite hot off the press which is exciting.
I listened afterbyou recommendation and really *enjoyed* it.
