MH370 will stick with me forever. What on earth happened?
Off topic(ish) An Aussie friend of mine used to say “Fly Garuda, Die Garuda” yikes

That must have been bad when Emiliano Salas plane came down. He didnt even want to get on it because it was dodgy. I'd say to anyone if they think a plane looks like its falling to bits then dont get on.

Garuda aren’t actually too bad, I flew a 13 hour flight with them and would do it again. They used to have a bad name but their EU ban got lifted around 10 years ago.

I am a nervous flyer now and never used to be. Since we had kids I have become much more nervous about flying, and every so often it will cross my mind “if this crashes we will all go down and they’ll spend their last moments terrified”. That said we still fly regularly (or we used to!) when covid hit we were due to fly to NZ and actually a long haul flight bothers me less than a short haul for some reason.

I always remember the other Malaysia crash in 2014, MH17, where it got shot down. That one really scared me! And all the bodies and personal items strewn over the fields below...scary. I'm definitely not a keen flyer but thankfully I can very rarely go abroad

When I’m super stressed I also dream about being in a plane crash.. it’s horrendous!!
I think the ones I’m most disturbed by are:

- Tenerife disaster - basically caused by an impatient pilot 😣

- MH17 being shot down. Must have been terrifying onboard

- the German suicide :( so sad and there were loads of school children onboard too.

I recently flew in the states and honestly the plane was the worst thing I’ve ever seen. The whole nose was bashed in / paint completely chipped off, it felt about a million years old and the whole thing creaked so much when taking off. Never again

Which Asian airlines are the safest? It does always feel like most crashes are over that part of the world. I’d like to visit Japan one day but it feels scarier flying there rather than say the USA lol.
I went to Sapporo, Japan via Hong Kong. The carrier was ANA (Nippon) - great flight. Cathay Pacific felt really luxurious going Manchester-Hong Kong and back. Worst flight I’ve been on was Jet2 to Leeds/Bradford - Prague - was like sitting on a mini bus!

I've always had such a morbid interest/fascination with plane crashes! Pre pandemic I was a frequent flier but never really got nervous.

Was on a flight from Thailand to Vietnam on VietJet Air not long after the Lion Air crash, we'd never heard of the airline before just booked it as it was cheapest so was slightly nervous for that 😬 but they turned out to be pretty good!

If anyone's into podcasts, I love Black Box Down and Take to the Sky, both great air crash investigation podcasts!

I quite often dream about seeing a plane crash, like it happens in the street in front of my house. I have often said to my husband that I would like to see a plane crashing- but obviously nobody getting hurt (I’m not a psycho!!). I just think it would be fascinating

Oh my god me too!! I hate the feeling of helplessness I feel in my dream watching it go down?
I didn’t realise this was a “thing” I thought it was just me?

Apparently we are weirdos together 😂 Actually quite glad you’ve said this as I feel like a real oddball having those dreams! Yes, in my dream I watch it starting to come down and it often comes together with the dream I have where I am trying to dial 999 and can’t 😩

I'm intrigued to know what happened to the pilot David Ibbotson, he was never found yet Sala's body was found soon after in Guernsey. Someone was charged as the pilot didn't have the required licence to fly the plane.

Oh god. Mine is more morbid because I’m always in the plane and can’t stop it 😩

Another plan crash obsessive here. Used to be on a pilot's forum years ago discussing plane safety and crashes (stayed in touch with a couple of the pilots on it and a few others that were just strange like me 😂).

I have a huge fear of flying and to be honest cant see me getting on one again now as my fear has got worse over time not better.

The big one for me is MH370, read all the conspiracy theories etc.... but think it will be a lot more simple than that.

German wings was truly horrific as was the Air France disaster.

I get unsettled when planes fly above and have to watch until they are out of sight safely.

Cant understand how people can fly regularly as the anxiety it causes even from booking a flight is ridiculous (I had hypnotherapy for it but we had to call it a day half way through as the police helicopter was circling above the therapists office and I couldnt relax 😂😂)

I’m a nervous flyer and my worst nightmare is crashing into the sea rather than land. I don’t know why 😂 I always have a couple of drinks to settle my nerves.

I would love to know what happened to MH370 it drives me mad not knowing.

Before Covid happened we wanted to go to Hawaii as part of our honeymoon but I was in two minds because it’s just flying over the sea for 5 hours and that makes me feel nervous. I’m weird 🤣
I’m the opposite for some reason I feel I would have a better chance of survival if landed in water 🤷🏼‍♀️ although I then think of sharks 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

I often think of that poor woman who was sucked out of an aircraft window ... what an awful way to go! (https://www.archive.is/oldest/https...ncy-southwest-landing-engine-explosion-latest)

Re. MH370, I'll post a couple of things here which verge on conspiracy / 'out there' stuff as a spoiler ... if you want to read, click on it (but be aware that it discusses the fate of those onboard); if you're not interested, just scroll on by ;).

There are many theories, but a couple that keep coming up. 1) MH370 was taken to Diego Garcia and those onboard who had knowledge about a new form of technology were grilled, before being disposed of (once they passed, Jacob Rothschild became the patent owner). MH370 was then flown to Amsterdam, dead bodies intact where it was rebranded as MH17, which then got shot down ... which explains why the bodies were 'old looking' (drained of blood and decomposing). The MH17 plane had an extra window next to the second right-side door, which MH370 did not - and neither did the wreckage. This does not explain what became of those said to have perished in MH17, but some believe those people didn't even exist. 2) MH370 flew into a vortex and is stuck there until such time as a geographical event changes the flow of the vortex (sounds a bit like that TV show "Manifest"), at which point the passengers will return to earth and suffer psychological turmoil as nothing here resembles that which they remember. There was so much of this stuff on the 'net up until about a year ago, but it's pretty much all been scrubbed. The aviation practice scene set-up in the pilot's home was all done after the fact to conceal what really happened.

I always have to wear trainers or “proper shoes” on a flight? Never a flip flop cause if we crash into mountains or some tit a flip flops gonna be no good?

Amazingly this happened to a pilot once and he survived, the other pilots held onto his legs thinking he was dead! I never forget watching the documentary about it

Omggggg I remember reading about this!! Terrifying, apparently they were considering letting go of the body but thought it might damage the engine / wing when flying. Turns out he was alive the whole time!
