Hey all,
This is a bit of a weird topic but myself and my friends have a weird fixation with plane crashes and their investigations... so I wondered if anyone on here shares our (morbid) fascination.

I’ve just read on the news today about a plane in Colorado having to make an emergency landing after an engine exploded mid flight, thankfully no one was hurt but looks terrifying in the video!!

A woman I worked with when I lived in London’s fiancé was on the plane that crashed over the Atlantic going from Rio De Janeiro to Paris :-( I watched the air crash investigation episode of it and it was so sad as it was all down to pilot error and could have been avoided

I've watched a lot of aircrash investigation but its always the causes that leave me stunned and also sad because most are avoidable.
I'm always surprised at how the smallest of actions like missiing a small screw or pilot error on such a basic action leads to such a devastating loss of lives.
I worked with a man whose parents died in the klm/pan am in tenerife.

Even though most are horrific the ones that get to me the most are the ones where passengers know its not going to end good, where its drawn out rather than quick like germawings and 9/11.

I would say I am overly interested in plane crashes 😳 I’ve watched a lot of air crash investigation and seconds from disaster (I enjoy all of it, not just the crashes).

The ones I find most interesting are ones which seem to just disappear, and they struggle to find out what happened.

This one is one of the ones which terrifies me most as like you said it could have been avoided so easily! Such a horrible chain of events 😩

What do you think happened to the Malaysia air? I’m honestly far too invested in it 🤣

I honestly don’t know, but if I had to guess I would say human cause rather than mechanical, simply due to the fact it flew after disconnecting from ATC. I wouldn’t say I’m massively a theorist about it all though, certainly not a conspiracy theorist, but I just find it fascinating that a whole plane can disappear and people don’t know why, or even really when or where. Like we can get a thing to Mars, but finding out what happened to MH370 escapes us!

Are you a nervous flyer? I’ve watched so many episodes of air crash investigation now that I feel extremely tense when I fly. It would be such a dramatic and terrifying way to die

Generally not something I’m particularly obsessed with but I do have a weird fascination with another forum where pilots and the like discuss crashes etc. MH370 fascinates me though, I’ve spent hours of my life reading all sorts of conspiracy theories, mostly crazy but I can’t help myself

I’m a nervous flyer and my worst nightmare is crashing into the sea rather than land. I don’t know why 😂 I always have a couple of drinks to settle my nerves.

I would love to know what happened to MH370 it drives me mad not knowing.

Before Covid happened we wanted to go to Hawaii as part of our honeymoon but I was in two minds because it’s just flying over the sea for 5 hours and that makes me feel nervous. I’m weird 🤣

I’m also a nervous flyer, probs partly to blame on the fact I know exactly why and how every plane crash has happened 😹

I love flying but I’m interested in where these missing planes go! There was one that set off from Jakarta the other month & lost radio signal - I think the black box was found though.

Sorry for all the nervous flyers reading this ; I once flew over Russia and some lightning hit the wing (had a window seat over the wing). Honestly thought that would be it.

Me! It drives me crazy not knowing what happened to the MH370 flight.
I’m such a nervous flyer even though I fly a lot I just think that would be the worst way to die. I have flew a lot in Asia when travelling long term and I would always research every airline I was looking at flights with before I booked as I always feel so wary flying over there especially.

Which Asian airlines are the safest? It does always feel like most crashes are over that part of the world. I’d like to visit Japan one day but it feels scarier flying there rather than say the USA lol.

Me too!

My MH370 theory is that it was taken over remotely (same as I believe the 9/11 planes were) and flown to a remote air base where the people they needed 'eliminating' were dealt with (along with everyone else on board) then the plane dismantled and re purposed. I think the group they wanted rid of were the IT guys / patent holders, I forget who the patent went to by default but when I found out I said 'aaaahh makes sense' . When the Boeing remote system takes over it shuts down the entire comms system, taking away the pilots ability to communicate to ATcontrol and takes the plane off radar. If you're into conspiracies one of the regulars on the conspiracy thread posted a link to Rebakah Roth's YouTube channel, she was an American air hostess (predominantly interested in 9/11) she said it was common knowledge Boeing were selling remote flying technology up to 25 years ago.

I'm a very nervous flyer too, if I'm stressed I often dream about being in plane crashes 😬

YES honestly I live for this stuff! Been an obsessive Air Crash Investigation/Seconds From Disaster gal for over a decade 😜 Wanted to be an air traffic controller since I was a kid but I absolutely don’t trust my maths skills

I'm more worried about getting a DVT on a long haul than the plane getting ambushed or falling out of the sky. DVTs and long haul are more of a problem than people think. I once watched a documentary about it and this lady lost her daughter to one on a flight back from Australia, she was young like 18 and no health issues.
There was guy on my post grad who lived in Lockerbie but he wouldn't even say because he didn't want to talk about it or couldn't etc. He was then killed in a car crash himself.

Me and my husband have watched countless episodes of Seconds From Disaster/Air Crash Investigation that we truly believe could get a stricken plane down safely with our combined acquired knowledge. We definitely know our ailerons from our flaperons thanks to those shows. And always make sure your pito tubes are unblocked :ROFLMAO:

I’d say you were safe on most major Asian air carriers! It’s the smaller regional/domestic airlines that tend to be more of an issue. If an airline is deemed dangerous or unsafe it’s usually blacklisted from Europe!

It’s more the low cost airlines I don’t like, I avoided any Indonesian airlines apart from Garuda as they have a terrible record I was fine flying with Air Asia but not the Indonesian part of it.
All the big airlines like Singapore airlines, Thai, Cathay Pacific, EVA air, Vietnam airlines etc and most of the Middle Eastern airlines I don’t have any problems with.

In Japan I used Jetstar and Peach airlines and didn’t have any problems with them either.

it puts me off going to South America as a lot of the airlines I wouldn’t like to fly with🤣
