I don’t think it’s fair to say there’s no such thing as homophobia and it wouldn’t damage his career 27 years ago.
Whilst I think his statement was contrived and planned to help his public persona, it doesn’t detract that it is still an unfair playing ground for lgbtqplus community. I don’t think he’s done it any favours as he seems the type that would have pulled the ladder up behind him.
But, an out man would not have had his gig full time. Not even ten years ago. LGBTQplus people rarely get lead straight playing roles. There is still systematic homophobia within sport and other industries.
Whilst entertainment is further toward than most fields, it’s not as much as we thing. Whilst there might be gay hair dressers, set designers etc. Actual gay men fronting shows like (my fave human ever) Rylan are rare.
For me that’s what’s annoying. Open secret or not it could of been something positive. But instead it feels lIke it was done for financial gain.
hopefully someone watching felt empowered by it. Because in 2020 there are still people who don’t believe they can live their life being who they really are.
As I think this could be referring to an earlier post of mine, to clarify I absolutely believe there is still homophobia today, but it’s not RIFE. That’s the word I objected to. And I absolutely believe it would’ve affected his career back then, as his core fan base and appeal wasn’t to gay men but housewives and young girls. Which is why the bearding makes it feel manipulative for his success.

hiding sexuality will go on whilever there’s money to be made from appealing to a demographic that’s bigger than your natural one, ie young men to girls.

Why do people keep mentioning Rylan? What’s gone on?
Oral sex according to an earlier post on here 😂

But, in all seriousness, I think it stems back to an interview Rylan gave or a comment he made (I'll have to try and find the source) where he said something about some people in Showbiz not being as nice as you think and everyone jumped to the conclusion that he was talking about PS. And I think he works on This Morning anymore, certainly not when PS & HW are on (I only watch now and again so not 100% sure)

He is also incredibly close to Ruth and Eamonn. When Ruth's sister took her own life last year, Eamonn said Rylan was the first person she called and he sat with Eamonn when he made the announcement that Ruth would be off for a while. It was obvious then what good friends they are. It was very touching. Feel emotional just thinking about it actually.

Also this, when asked about his wife Steph.

Phil: "I have no secrets, we've never had any secrets."

He goes on to say;
"She is amazing. She's incredible. I have never in my life, there is nobody in my life who would have supported me the way, as a wife, the way she has supported me. She's astonishing. "

That makes me think she knew all along and if not right from the very beginning, then very near to it. Saying you have NEVER had any secrets is a big statement to make. So prehaps it was a marriage of convenience that suited them both.
I really hope it was a marriage of convenience and that she and the kids knew from day 1 that was the arrangement, because I feel more sorry for the wives and kids in this situation - in a few months time, he'll be photographed with his boyfriend in a glamorous setting, and the headline will be along the lines of 'he is the love of my life, and everything is perfect'. Meanwhile, his ex-wife will be photographed looking scruffy and miserable struggling to push a loaded Sainsbury's trolley with litre of vodka perched on the top.
I want her to give an interview looking amazing saying yes, our loving marriage was a lie, but Philip was always open and as long as he brought home the bacon, we were great friends and I was happy to play along.

Yes this is what I found odd because if you've just recently come out as gay to your wife you defiantly do have secrets.

Also all this about it wasn't as accepted back in the day to be gay. No it wasn't but he didn't have to get married he could have just stayed 'single' like Andi peters and Stephen Mulhern who are gay but never have admitted it if you know what I mean.

Here you go....

https://www-thesun-co-uk.cdn.amppro...g-rylan-clark-neal-not-friends-everyone/amp/#

And also from Wiki.....

"In December 2017, it was announced that Rylan would be taking a break from his duties with This Morning from the following January for a few months. Clark-Neal returned to This Morning briefly in April 2018, July 2018 and August 2018 as a main show stand-in presenter"

Seems like a few months has spread into never.
Fortunately, he didn’t need TM now :)

27 years ago was what... 1993. I remember 1993 really well, I was in high school. It wasn’t the Victorian ages, although it wasn’t as open as it is now people generally didn’t care too much about homosexuality. A lad in the sixth form was openly gay, wore a denim jacket that said ‘ahoy sailor’ on it and told us that he’d had a liaison with Toby Anstis (another CBBC presenter of the day).

what I’m trying to say is it would have been awkward but not impossible for Phil to have come out before he was married. He was a theatre luvvie as Joseph around that time, I don’t think anyone would’ve been stunned, except his CORE FANBASE of housewives.

The only sentence I see in this is “ahoy sailer” I’m dying 🤣🤣🤣

considering he started out on that godawful katie price program, rylan has turned into a national fvcking treasure. he's great on the radio and seems like a genuinely great guy. unlike schofe. i am sad if this is ps's 'excuse' for being a total t for years. many people struggle with their sexuality and turn to kindness.

Interesting. I always thought he was gay. And was surprised when I read he was married to a woman.

So Pip's sexuality has been the worst kept secret in showbiz. Everybody knew and certainly at ITV it was known. So if it is true that his wife was his manager then I think she offered to marry him to give him the image of a loving family man (which despite being gay can be true). I do think there is a lot of love between him and his wife, obvs not sexual love, but still a lot of love. I also think they both wanted kids so either tried or went down the IVF route.
Also I wonder if the children was made aware at an early age when they would be able to understand the situation.

I wasn’t referring to anyone in particular. More to the general population.
And I do believe in certain parts of the uk it is unfortunately still rife. Metropolitan cities fine. Smaller counties and countries not so much. I know people who have had to leave their small towns as they weren’t accepted at all.
Its not everyone’s experience but it is for some. I think Phil would have had a better experience being a rich, white, london, male in the media. But someone in a religious community in the highlands might not be. In some parts of the uk being a single mother is still shameful.

Anyway that’s a chat for a different thing.
Phil isn’t a nice man. Being gay doesn’t change that. Now he’s just a not nice gay man.
