The most talented comedians either evolve in terms of material or refine and hone their schtick enough to remain a source of entertainment. Kay has never done either of those and in a world of monumental egos, his is right up there. In his mind and by his own admission he has never had a bad gig, has always been the most talented act on any bill, must be credited as the creative force behind every success he’s had and so on.

That is the material which he has dined out on in excess of twenty years in live shows. A one-trick nostalgia act with end of the pier material that is at times questionable, if being generous.

It was a cringe fest from start to finish at the O2. I was shocked by how dated it was, and how Peter himself seemed to be going through the motions rather than enjoying it. He wasn’t even genuinely laughing himself. There was a truly awful maudlin section about his Nan who passed away, whilst it’s sad, I honestly did not pay good money for him to go down memory lane. It was 100% unnecessary and boring. He’s lost his spark and X factor. I won’t spoil the ending but wish I’d left before the ‘pudding’ as he called it. Pointless and unimpressive. Reminded me of some panto’s I’ve been to.
He was dressed like a shabby old man, his jokes were hammered to death and it was about the level of an average pub comedian.
I’d say 6/10 if I’m being generous.

Think you’ve hit the nail on the head there
He's always been dated and I saw that as someone who used to love him. His bread and butter is old people and nostalgia so I doubt it will change.
As for this tour, I have a feeling it's gonna be the last actual one where he tours. It's likely he only did it to make up for the last one being cancelled and is probably at the stage where he wishes it was done now and can't even be arsed pretending to act like he is enjoying himself. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if, after this, it will be one-offs for charity or a few dates around where he stays like he did years back.
As for writing, he has said in interviews he has new scripts ready for both Phoenix Nights and Max And Paddy but he has been saying the same thing again and again over the years and I'm not sure it would work. Quite a few of the cast have called him for taking the credit for things when it was by all accounts a team effort. To add to that, it would likely be watered down and more PG than it used to be. Even back in the day, people were complaining saying it was racist and other stuff so god only knows what it would be like nowadays. It would be great to get even one more episode like the live version they did years back for charity but I doubt it will happen.
It does seem weird to me that pheonix nights was a big hit for channel 4 and car share was a big hit for the BBC but neither of them are repeated or on their demand services 
I agree about this tour being his last he's certainly made his money and obviously isn't putting his heart and soul in to it anymore he will always have a legion of loyal fans who think he's the best comic to ever have lived and enjoy his out dated and at times for the modern world questionable material (I mean Jim Davidson still sells out theatres with his shows)
I think he's a lazy comedian in the fact he makes a series or two of something then gets bored and forgets it's his fans who have put him where he is, I love pheonix nights but I kind of hope they don't make another series it could never be the same as the original and I don't think a lot of the original cast would want to work with him again as for max and paddy I think that doesn't need a reboot
I can't see him come back to main stream TV either after his offensive antics with Rob rinder on strictly the BBC won't have that now

This does bug me…I’d love to watch both of these again as they’re great but yeah, surely you’d think he’d want to capitalise on these. Phoenix Nights would get large viewership if it was available on streaming services. As for doing a reboot or sequel if PN, as mentioned I doubt any of the cast would want to work with him again with the exception of Paddy.
I used to love Peter Kay and would buy his DVDs though these were pretty much his jokes just recycled on a loop.
I believe he owns full rights to his stuff. I think they talked charlie higson in to putting the fast show on streaming. His first cheque was 12p for the first month. Its not worth it.

What was the Rob Rinder incident?
The camera panned away and Peter was naked from the waist down holding a lead & at the end of it, was Rob Rinder on all fours in a gif mask & suit complete with gag ball
Peter was stood in front of Rob and he turned round as though Rob was touching him and made a comment (in a kind of Oh er carry on film way) can't remember what he said exactly but it was uncomfortable

Although I think Peter Kay owns the rights in their entirety so he would make a lot more money.
Has any pheonix nights fans seen Clinton Baptise live show? I've seen bits of it on yt and do think he's brilliant he's coming to our local theatre next year if anyone has seen him live would you recommend it
