To be honest, I felt rather sad reading his Vibemail, because he sounds ill :/ but if that's just me who thinks that, so be it! (and I hope he isn't)

Also, what is with the person kicking off on the PCD group because someone RUINED their life by revealing that JR is on TM next season?! I mean, perspective, people! It's not even a TM group. It reminded me of a PCD group post I read a while back where someone said "I haven't listened to the podcast yet, no spoilers please", and I just realise how much I don't understand some people :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Oh no, he absolutely does sound like he is going through it but I think it’s his honesty about it all that is what I loved. It’s immensely relatable (apart from I don’t stand on stage in front of thousands) but the quest for perfection and never quite being enough/wondering what if.

Christ on a bike the group is wild. Also pretty much everyone already knew, didn’t they?

I agree. There's something quite haunting about the way he writes, that makes it feel more honest and pure than others.

I admire him immensely for being able to be true to himself and to share with people his feelings. He had hidden it for so long, then alluded to it, and now he's able to be his entirely truthful self with such strong support.

While I understand Howl had an awful story behind it, I could honestly listen to him recount it again because he did so in such a way it was relatable and raw (felt the same way about darkness of Robins too).

Also, totally felt like I knew about it but as with everything, never get excited until it comes from the horses mouth!

God, I loved that vibemail. Once again our JJR made me feel normal just by being honest. Yes, he is 'ill' but I don't think that's news to him. Quite the opposite - I think that's exactly what he's saying. Perfection is a sickness and he wants to find a cure.

I have so much empathy and sympathy for him on this. I needed to book some train tickets this morning which involved 4 websites, a spreadsheet and consulting with my partner...because I had to book the absolute best combination of tickets from the right website at the best price. It is bleeping exhausting having a brain like this, and I hope, selfishly, that JJR finds a solution because I would welcome it with open arms.

much love to you!

And I agree with you both. It’s his honesty. So often “celebs” want to tell us about their “journeys” and mental health but it seems a hashtag for an insta post and a quest for likes rather than any genuine acknowledgement of how tricky the human condition and experience is. I love him for it.

Ive probably just been been burnt by following the life and times of grifters like jack monroe on here, but I’ve seen a few go fund mes/kofi type fundraisers for PCDs recently on the FB and it is giving me bad vibes. Does this make me a bad person? Maybe. Is it all legit? Possibly.

I dunno, I’m with you, I’d be a bit skeptical. I know there was the fundraiser for Matthew Boorman but I think that’s a different situation.

Someone I used to kind of know put up a gofundme because he fell out of a tree and was unable to work for a while. He fell out of the tree because he had some spiritual urge to climb it. I mean, wtf. People donated a few thousand.

I know what you mean about go fund me type posts.
The Matt one is so totally different.
A lot of people are facing hard times right now. I see the same faces posting a lot about being broke etc in the main / sub groups and i don’t even use fb very often at all. Maybe because we have similar interests and they seem to be in all th same groups saying the same stuff.
Once one is posted it opens the gates for more. No one is obligated of course it it does change the vibe.
It’s hard because you want to be supportive but then people feel bad they can’t give to all and so get themselves in trouble possibly.
This was. A much longer ramble than anticipated 🙃

I think some people post a lot of ‘woe is me’ in the hopes people will start then a fund page. Feels a little bit predatory but that’s a bit strong.

Just to clarify… he raised a few thousands, people thankfully didnt donate thousands for a grown man who fell out a tree

You get it on Reddit a lot too…. People asking advice on how to make £10 last until the end of the month for food - then loads of people are like, I’ll send you another tenner to make it easier for you.
Probably a similar vibe to people who fake beg in the street.

Glad I posted now. The Matt one was absolutely different but some of these people have barely posted/interacted with the group which is somehow worse…as if someone would see the kindness of PCDs as a chance for some easy cash.

I’m sure anyone doing this is having a genuinely tough time so don’t really begrudge them per se, the whole GfM thing irks me because it is rife with piss takers.

This reminds me of a guy who used to post on twitter, he kept coming up for me because a guy I followed interacted with him. Anyway, it was a constant cycle of "I'm so skint, I can't get a job, I have nowhere to live, no food to eat" etc etc and then all of a sudden he's been offered a live in job. Great. But needs money to tide him over until his first wage. Then boom, a week or so in, the job hasn't worked out and now he has two days to find somewhere else to live.

Honestly it was unbelievable. If you didn't know he had form for it. You could be lured in.

As it stood he had done this on many many different variations of his page and was obviously a scammer and thankfully I haven't seen his face or pages similar for a couple of years. But sadly I don't think thsts because he was caught but merely he's going under a different name.

And sadly this kind of thing burns people to do good sometimes.

I'm sympathetic to the plight everyone is going through just now but quite frankly can't give to everyone and don't know who's genuine so I donate in different ways as I can. It feels awful sometimes scrolling past some posts.

With the PCD group, I think they see it as a tight group of comrades who they can go to.

Like the Distant Pod fans, they are all really tight and if Mike, Elis or Stef posted a gofundme they endorsed, fans would donate for sure.

For example, I recall seeing someone post on twitter about not being able to go and see the distant pod live show because they couldn't afford it and their comments were flooded with "I'll buy you a ticket mate come with me" and when I had an extra seat for mine I offered it up to anyone on the group without wanting anything for it (but bizarrely noone took me up on it, which I won't take personally).

Hard to explain, but it's hard not to feel like that could be exploited. Especially when Elis and John (and the delightful Dave) are so bloody lovely, so obviously the vibe will be that their fans are (and they are, broadly save a few absolute tubes).

Anyway sorry. Rant over.

Quoting myself to just say when I say tight in reference to the fans I don't mean tight with money I mean tight as in tight knit group.

I've been in a few FB groups where I think the sense of tight-knit community makes people feel confident in posting GFMs and similar. But it always makes me uncomfortable. Because I think definitely there are lots of chancers out there, and in those big groups, it's impossible to know if everyone is genuine.

Totally agree, I clicked on one of them and it didn’t even explain why they were trying to raise money - like any old random could just make a page and ask for money. I think some people are genuinely in a tough spot but I wouldn’t be surprised if others take advantage of a lot of decent people within the group.
A separate charity group im in has just been scammed out of thousands of pounds and people in the group have also donated a lot of money, shows how some people prey on others.

What are people listening to, to fill the void before The Big Reset? Need some podcast recommendations please! Something that is easy to listen and doesn’t focus too much on the current state of the world (but not Crunch+Crumble or three bean salad) xxxx
