Started listening to the Iain Lee Ep of HDYC last night and I imagine that, had he spoken about c the way he did when John was drinking, it would have helped John kick the booze sooner... the same way TMUQ Barry ep did. Does anyone else feel like Elis hardly speaks during HDYC? I'm a massive Robins apologist so might be skewed but it feels like John could do the show alone.

What do we think the big 'good' announcement could be?!

I think they’ve spoken before about how John drives a lot of the conversation, whether that’s XFM/Radio X/5 Live. I agree, it’s more evident in HDYC, but I suppose because their radio brand is so clearly them as a duo, it naturally became a two-hander. I think Elis balances John in that he is maybe more restrained in talking about issues? In that sense it’s probably a good reflection of the difference in how men deal with things.

I think Elis is aware that John needs the space to talk, so just allows him to take the lead. Which is why I think they work well as a due.

That said, I think Elis can be too passive - which I noticed towards the end of the Isolation Tapes, and John should probably be more aware to let Elis speak.

On the house topic.. John saying he can't buy a house in London in the latest HDYC is, frankly, Bravo Sierra. He could sell his house and buy a lovely one bed with roughly the same sq ft in West London easily. Not that I'm a stickler for detail or anything!

Reading between the lines a lot here, but is it just me that feels like JR is telling Adrian he’s basically an alcoholic around the middle part? Seems to then claw it back around the time he starts talking in terms of having two drinks then stopping. Thought it was an interesting piece but it could have been more thorough and to the point. Feels a bit ‘so what’.

I thought that too.

I also felt it didn't seem very conversational. It was like they were talking their opinions at each other, and neither really acknowledged what the previous said?

Or maybe I read it wrong.

I very much got these vibes too. Overall, a bad article, IMO.

I think the article is good. It’s interesting hearing how different their perspectives on alcohol are because I have been moderating my drinking significantly and a lot chimes with what Adrian says. However the final comments old Johnny JR makes make me feel for him. I know he mentioned (I think on HDYC) that he can’t think about the “might have beens” and “what ifs” … I hope that someone who brings so much happiness to my life and to many others has happiness in his own. I know he does, and I’m not wanting to patronise him by turning him into a tragic character when he clearly has good friends and a loving family; I just hope he doesn’t beat himself up too much.
