I follow quite a few of the parkruns round me on the socials, all struggling for volunteers this week

I’m not a Parkrun fan personally and agree with the cliquey comments. It’s hilarious how it’s “not a race” but it so clearly is - all the people boasting about how they came first in their age group.
I’ve had a few rows with marshalls who put on a cheap bit of high vis and think they own the fucking place.

I know someone else who runs in parkrun and they once had a row with a marshall apparently I'm thinking, dude, it's not that serious, just get some exercise and calm down

The parkrun website says:

However it also say:

How fast do I have to be?

We all take part for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

I do agree with many of the posts here. I wonder has the "parkwalk" initiative encouraged anyone to progress into running at parkrun? I know at my local one there's a man who walks it, has gone from 55mins to 45 mins and he's in his late 60s. He's lost weight, his wife volunteers, he helps after with post event close down.

But I remember when the walking was brought in and I could see some people not step forward volunteer anymore. Parkwalk has added on an extra 15/20+ mins to the morning, meaning we now don't finish til around 10:30am (we start at 9:30). When I'm run director, I'm there for about 8:30 and it's around 11am by the time I get my coffee.

I’ve volunteered a few times at mine but I absolutely lost my shit as a tail walker once when there were a couple in their 50s I’d guess, decided mid way through the walk of 3 laps to go into the cafe that had opened at 9:30 and grab some breakfast and a hot drink. The we’re not fluent in English and I was trying to speak to them about it and told them that they’ve kind of counted themselves out of the event now and I continued. When we’d finished and packed the course up we always go into the cafe for breakfast and a cuppa but later on this couple came steaming in asking why we’d packed up and they actually reported up and we had to have a full investigation on us and our behaviour which was appalling from HQ! We were cleared and the situation was explained to them but these people or those who take 1hr 15 to walk it are reasons why volunteering sometimes declines as people have lives outside of Parkrun and it turns into a 2.5hr shift

I’ve stumbled across a mad facebook group where a tshirt has been printed for people to wear on their 250th run. You can book it for your run and someone posts it out for you to wear

There's a few of those about. I can't see the sense or appeal personally.

I actually do this - partly because there's one i want to do in Scotland but can't justify traveling that far just for a parkrun.

Thanks a mil. The parkrun I was talking to doesn't plan on changing its name, just looking at moving to a possibly more suitable grounds in the same town.

I was in Köln for a friends “big” birthday a few years ago (there Thursday to Monday) and there were two lads who’d got the latest Friday flight and had an 11:30an flight back, not spending any time in the city at all

Ridiculous. I'll do that if I'm visiting a local one.

There's a group for those of us who rely on public transport for parkrun. Some in there talk about spending all night on a coach for parkruns and back again Saturday.

Call me weird but I do like exploring the city I'm staying in.

My local has something like 40 people each week. Bushy was...a bit of shock! (Around 1200-1300 when I've been there)
