Yay for Ireland 🇮🇪 our first medal these games and first Olympic swimming medal in 20 plus years! Delighted for Mona, she swam a great race 🙌
I don't recall her being mentioned as a medal prospect either which makes it even better. Daniel Wiffen tomorrow night!🤞

I am old enough to remember that swimming cheat in Atlanta in 1996 for Ireland, and then feeling so disappointed when it all came out.

Yes, I really am that old!

Anyone else remember?

Not just that but I remember her not even getting out of the heats the two previous games. Hmmmm.

Yep I remember Atlanta '96. She was never stripped of her Olympic medals but she tampered with drug tests in a later competition I think? It left a cloud over her achievements. I was gutted at the time too. We are a small nation in comparison to others in the Games, it's a big deal and massive achievement to have world class athletes competing and winning at the Olympics 🥲

watching fencing, drama , I have no idea what is going on, Italian coach is fuming, Italian fencer is begging, they repeated final sequence three times after judge analysed clips

PS I think now Italian guy is crying
the venue looks amazing, it's in Gran Palais

Madison Levi is unreal for Australia in the rugby 7s. They're thrashing Ireland but they're such an amazing team I want them to go on and win it.

We watched this too and Macchi was not handling the decision well! Someone tried to approach him like one of the general Olympics workers I think? and he sort of pushed / batted her arm away from him 😅 I felt for him though, it didn’t seem like a clear win, but what the hell do I know? 😂

Yes, I just googled her. She never got stripped of her medals, as you say. Now works as a barrister in Ireland....

Wasn't her now husband her coach at the time too? Or was he involved in some other sport? I can't remember now but the whole thing stunk. Such a shame.

Anyways, I'm gone totally off topic now so yay again for Mona's bronze today 👏 Fingers crossed for a few more medals for the Irish. Couple of hopefuls in the rowing too!

Just wanted to say I splashed out on Eurosport as I can get it via Amazon Prime and every sport so far has commentary.

I've been switching between BBC and Eurosport. If I know a British athlete is competing and the BBC are showing it I'll watch on there as I prefer their commentary. Eurosport I flick through the channels until I find a sport I want to watch. I also like how Eurosport have 'live' next to their logo when it's live but they don't have it if it's a replay of a sport that's finished competing

I’m behind and maybe this has been said. In a vid I saw of all the celebrities at the gymnastics snoop and Ariana were just sitting there in there seats and it looked like Tom Cruise was being very nice to fans posing for selfies and signing autographs etc. He is a massive weirdo with the Scientology thing but he seems to always be well mannered with fans and puts his actor happy face on for it.
