Parenting Hell Podcast #5

I haven't fully caught up yet (rip Beryl) but I was listening to multiple episodes in one go and noticed that most actual parenting Rob talked about involved the kids on their iPads. I am not an anti-screen warrior. Just survived an 8 hour euro drive thanks to extensive tablet use. But really, they need them when just tagging along random errands? Idk man, I don't think it's bad for kids to just hang out while their parent goes to the hairdresser's. It's not like they're 4 and have no patience and inhibition. Take a book, look out the window, watch the barbers do their thing. I'm sure they do plenty other stuff but just stood out to me that every anecdote with Rob parenting involved him mentioning "devices" (and how hes sooo okay with that).

I agree tbh . And I really hate coming onto this site and being holier than thou about parenting but iPads in our house are exclusively for travel . Long car journeys , train journeys , planes and holidays are an exception but day to day or if we’re out to eat or they have to come with one of us to an appointment etc then we bring toys , colouring , books etc . My kids do watch YouTube but only ever on the TV again unless travelling

There is a stark comparison to me with how much Rob references iPads vs how much Josh does , it seems his kids don’t have them nearly as much as Rob’s girls seem to

I understand they do make life easier sometimes but I just feel so icky about my kids having too much screen time

I wish they wouldn’t put their football nonsense out on the main feed. I know it’s tactical for downloads and engagement from their existing audience, but I don’t want it in my podcast app!

Aren't there enough football podcasts 😴
When I heard it, I was thinking, who is their target audience here? If people want football chat, they are more likely to listen to former professionals than fans who have a decent amount of knowledge, but are hardly experts. But then I looked at the comments on Spotify and loads of people claim that they are looking forward to it, I don't get it. Where do they find the time??

My husband is a big parenting hell fan and also a big football fan so he fits in their target audience. He is one of the ones who is excited to listen! I assume as Rob and Josh are big football fans and probably talk about football outside the podcast then they have just decided to monetise on it.

I'm a football fan and enjoy Parenting Hell so don't mind it, although I don't get the impression that either of them are particularly ardent football fans so it is a bit of an odd one.

Sounds like I might be in the minority as I’m absolutely loving Footballing Hell. It’s hilarious! What makes it funny for me is how little they know really and keep having to ask Michael as he seems to be the more knowledgeable one. What I also like about it is that they have to record it as soon as the weekend’s results are in so you know it’s up to date. Rob was filming his from Center Parcs on a Sunday night after 4 pints!

I've no interest in football but have severe FOMO so gave the first one a listen and didn't hate it.

I may give the second one a go.

Josh used to do a podcast (with Michael) about football in the 90s. Tied together the football and his love of 90s nostalgia well 😆 he’s a Plymouth Argyle fan.

Yes I'm aware both are "active" football fana (Josh moreso than Rob as he regularly attends Plymouth games) but even using the past two weeks as an example, neither of them watched Match of the Day or even knew the 20 PL teams competing this year 😂 my point was they don't even seem overly interested in football for an average person. I would've expected Rob to do a travel podcast before a football one!

Also should add I'm not knocking them for doing the new podcast as I enjoy its similarly chaotic nature, and I also don't expect them to be across all football updates as they have busy lives. I just think it's come out of nowhere a bit!

I can’t help but think of MotherPukka or whatever she’s called these days, when I see Lou.
Thought she was a writer now- you’ve missed the ‘L’ from smoothly Lou…

I know they haven't always been wealthy but most of their parenting advice seems to be throw money at the problem - order 10 pairs of shoes instead of going to a shop, bribe child to put a plaster on their knee, take ipads everywhere, dangle the latest fad item to induce good behavior...

When they were talking about Josh's kids doing a 5 day day-camp rob seemed pretty serious about bribing them to do it, likes it's something he regularly does with his own kids 😔
Talk about throwing money at a 'problem'

Where’s Default Parent!? Haven’t listened yet sorry- I assume she’s ’working with *insert latest company that has tenuous link with parenting*’?

All our speculation about how Josh must hate being constantly interrupted by Rob…. Clearly not otherwise they wouldn’t be introducing a new podcast together!
i don’t like football, but do enjoy listening to them both, so will likely listen when I run out of episodes of my usual podcasts.

I just listened to last Friday's podcast and was happy to hear Josh ploughing on talking when Rob was continuously interrupting him as usual. I think Josh was reading out an email but he didnt stop and respond like he usually does- he needs to do more of that! Also loving how irate Rob was getting about the stolen toast 🤣
