I just hope Rob stops naming dropping Lou's book so much. He slides "default parent" into most things since she's written it. I understand being supportive, but the way he was going it was like undeclared ads

I think Romesh is really funny so I’m okay with it . But i obviously would have preferred Josh ! And he loves the Traitors too … I wonder if he was also asked but turned it down .

so many comedians - Joe Lycett , James Acaster , Joanne McNally , Miranda Hart …..
I love Romesh too… I’d actually prefer Romesh and Josh and no Rob. Definitely no default parent, thank you 🤣

To be fair to Rob regarding the airport story, how is he going to bring up two entitled little brats without showing them how to be rude to people who are just trying to make conversation?

I think Rob has admitted a lot of hang-ups from his working class background and issues with learning at school and i honestly think he should have regular therapy sessions as he’s totally overcompensating with his kids. They need to get bored so they can learn and use their imagination to entertain themselves. Kids do not need to do absolutely everything. There’s a difference between giving your kids a great childhood and spoiling them. The girls are going to end up so anxious. His interrupting is clearly his ADHD but he needs to try to learn how to listen more instead of always jumping in.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if Rob didn't make Josh's interruptions a thing then they could just be edited out. But if he goes on about it for ages then editing it out would make the episode shorter.

I don't have kids but I would've been interested to know how it is to travel to somewhere like Japan with kids. For example, we know his kids are very fussy eaters, so how did they navigate that?

I have a feeling they basically just went to Japan to go to Disney.

Call me cynical but is he commenting on any of the nice ones? Or just picking out the bad ones to show how many negative comments there are? 🤔
I really hope it’s not this. I think he can be a tad annoying, but I think he’s a loyal mate.
Hope I’m right!

I absolutely agree with this, it was so uncomfortable. He has no awareness at all, he interrupts Josh all the time and without fail turns the conversation to himself. How many times Josh tried to tell the story of being locked in the school and yet each time he was interrupted he has the social skills to engage with whatever rubbish Rob was spouting. It comes across as jealousy from Rob, he can't say anything complimentary to Josh, always making digs about anything he does. Driving me mad at the moment!
Yeah to be fair I didnt really think Rob was any worse than usual but it was driving me mad that he couldn't get his school story out and it took 35 mins to get to the end of that story. I think it's one of those things that as soon as you notice him doing it, you can't unhear it and it gets right under your skin!

I am a mega Traitors fan and am loving that line-up.

Huge crush on Romesh, he seems like such a lovely human. Look forward to seeing them all out of their comfort zones!

It's worse now you can see them too - Josh looks at Rob as if to say "are you done" so many times 😂

Rob cuts Josh off all the time to speak about himself, and it's never anything worth butting in for. His self entitlement seems to be rubbing off on his "bored" children too!

Also worth noting she never would have gotten her book deal if she wasn’t Rob Beckett’s wife . I haven’t read it and have no doubt she can write but it’s a really tough industry to crack into unless you already have an “in” . And she’s only a best seller because of her husband’s ready-made audience . She is incredibly privileged in a lot of respects !

Not saying it’s a bad thing and if my husband was famous I’d absolutely being using my privileges ! But I just think it’s the lack of acknowledging that and her whole woe is me act which rubs me up the wrong way .

But I’m pleased she reads here . Hopefully our feedback is getting passed on ! 🤪
Yeah - when Rob was praising her “achievement” of being a bestselling author as something she did all on her own, completely failing to mention that none of it would have happened without being his wife.

They way he cut in and talked over Josh about kids presents "so what you need to do to get a reall labubu is enter this raffle right..." As if josh gives two shits.

But Rob has spoken before about how they buy whatever the 'in' toy is in bulk (nice to be able to afford it) and then dole them out as bribes. His kids must be so spoilt. I don't get that vibe from Josh when he talks about his kids, privileged yes - ie 2 birthday celebrations but I thought it was lovely that they still did one with the 'london' friends as she's recently moved to Exeter.

Rob is just completely out of touch with reality. I can't get over Lou writing a book about being the default parent... It's not like she works full time (or at all?) so obviously the parent with the most free time takes on the brunt of the family admin especially when the other one is off earning thousands on tour. Kind of hope her book flops but assume lots of podcast listeners will buy it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Have any of you actually read or listened to the book? I did the audiobook and I liked it 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t think she came across as complaining about the life Rob’s job affords them. He wasnt so successful when they first had kids and I found lots of the early years stuff really resonated. And I say this as a full time working mum of 2 toddlers who is the default parent
In fairness, no. If it’s anything like her ‘hilarious’ whiny and nasal voice notes, or if the premise is exactly what she said it is, then I couldn’t bare it. I also don’t want to line their pockets even more, for a book based on something that I fundamentally see as bullshit. She’s barely even the most engaged parent between the two of them, and gets tonnes of help from family and staff. I’m sure when he started out, things would have been tougher, but she clearly has a supportive family and has absolutely nothing to complain about now. Everyone has things that stress them and upset them, she should talk to a friend, family member, or one of the friends you go on all these many trips with. I don’t understand why whining from an ivory tower is ‘relatable’ or necessary, and where the absolute brass neck comes from.

As much as I want to keep this a rave thread, I’m so bored of middle aged men interviews 🥱 especially comedians or athletes just coming in to promote something. I’d rather they re interview people now their kids are 3-6 years older. If Lou does read here, please pass on we want more female guests!
