Is she a bit dramatic over the eldest going off to secondary? I’m going to admit that mine are younger and the baby of our house just started primary school and I was a bit sad but I wouldn’t have said it was grieving. Maybe it is different when it’s secondary school is it?
I came on to comment about this. I actually feel like messaging her and telling her to cop on. There are parents grieving the loss of their children, children who passed away and should be starting school today. She should be celebrating that her son is healthy and happy enough to progress to secondary school. I have a child in secondary school and I most certainly was not grieving when they left primary. I’m raging at her inconsiderate use of language.

Exactly this. You can feel sad at the passing of time, how quick your children grow up, you can miss the younger years. But talking about grief and loss in the context of your child having the privilege of growing older is disgusting. There are parents out there actually grieving children they have lost, who will never grow older, who will never get to celebrate these milestones. Parents who would give anything to be in the position she is in with a child moving on to secondary school.

I have 4 kids. My smaller 3 are almost the exact same ages as hers, but my oldest is a couple of years older than her first, so started secondary two years ago. It barely even registered with me when he went to secondary, I hadn’t time to notice. I can’t understand the dramatics. “Grief” indeed- what bull. If she had more to do than drink coffee and go to Pilates she’d be distracted. People have actual things to grieve over.

And saying only a parent would know how this feels...so beyond insensitive

You would think she would know better given at one point 2 of her children had life threatening illnesses. This level of dramatics over something so small would make you wonder how serious those situations really were

No one needs that much Pilates and the big harmless face on the pair of them is embarrassing. I’d say she’s devastated at him going to secondary over the loss of control - no relationship really with the school teachers friends or mums - must kill a control freak like her . Hope he’s enjoying his brief escape from Waco .

She will need extra therapy sessions, plates and photogenic coffees to get over the trauma and grief of the child starting secondary school. What she really needs is a dose of cop on!
