Well said. If we're honest, they like it because most of them are earning more than they'd get via a job with a contract. But that also means they could have saved most of their income and hence have enough money to fund them while they look for alternative work.

I see lots of influencers who seem to earn a lot, but also spend a lot. I'd be saving everything I could. But I suppose they feel they have to have all the flashy material possessions to fit in.
These platforms are nothing more than a pimping service, the streetwalker equivalents at the bottom won't make anything. It's shocking that so many people think this is empowering women

I am unsure of what I think of these platforms tbh, but regardless totally non surprise, porn must be like 90% of their content?

I'm shocked at the money many women on these platforms are making without ever needing to get naked. There are women making a decent mount of money just from showing off their feet. As a guy myself, I will never understand why many guys are obsessed with feet they'll pay money to see women's feet. Horses for courses and all that, but they must have more money than sense. The women who are getting naked, well, I was reading about one of them who paid $70k in taxes last year alone. If she's paying that much in tax, what must she be making from OnlyFans content.

I think the women making huge amounts are people with a platform already so the people paying are paying for someone they" know" rather than just a random naked person, tbh if I would be worried about the fact that a lot of these people are fostering parasocial relationships and will end up being victims of stalking

I watched that BBC3 thing (think it's called Hayley goes...) and she put up none nude photos and instantly got tons of followers. However it turned out within days all her photos had leaked and were on forums with people discussing her. So onlyfans seems very vulnerable to hacking, wonder if that's one of the reasons they're stopping.

they probably haven’t had much luck getting creators on board

Someone has said it’s a joke that they’re targeting gaming creators because those people rose their platform up or something. How sad is it that a content genre is associated with sex work, especially as the majority of the audience is probably rather young

So Jodie Marsh has signed up - claimed her dad encouraged her!

Not something I would share with my siblings, but that's just me :D

I cannot imagine anything more disturbing than posing next to my brother in a banana hammock 😐🤢😳

Yes.

Gaining financially and having body autonomy and the ultimate control over something men have and continue to forcibly take from women is a power move and progressive, it just feels uncomfortable because slut shaming is ingrained into all of us from an early age.

We’ve got a long way to go but this is a small step to taking our power back from men, especially in relation to our bodies and sex. Most people don’t think twice about the men running casting couches and bang buses driving about in Lamborghinis funded by the exploitation of women, but a girl buys her own home selling pictures of herself online and people seem to lose their minds. Power to her.

It was more about the housing market to be honest.

Is it slut shaming? I'd have thought that's a toally different thing to online selling of yourself?

I don't think anyone has lost their mind over this, mostly seen people sad that it's what people need to do to get secure housing.

Only fans accounts often starts off with slightly spicy photos and then goes towards more and more explicit stuff. I think the "just selling a few photos" thing does misrepresent what seems to happen.

I’ve misunderstood your initial post I think.

The housing market is hard work right now - I work in finance and and am hands on in this area and I would definitely disagree that this is the only way to purchase property - I see plenty of young women in all walks of life purchasing, from menial jobs to high powered and everything in between - the media just seem to make a song and dance when it’s done via an unconventional way. For men purchasing these articles seem to focus on Bitcoin and women it seems to be Onlyfans. I’d also say that very, very few people in any profession in the UK are able to purchase property outright nowadays due to the high cost and taxation on it so it is unusual for someone so young to purchase cash - even the more socially accepted and revered professionals aren’t doing cash purchases on their homes.

I definitely still see a lot of hatred and judgement towards women making coin in this way so there is definitely still slut shaming going on in my view. I know a few people who do it who are all making unbelievable money and they get abuse online and in the street. The money definitely softens the blow though!

My main issue with seeing someone 20 being celebrated for buying a house through onlyfans (which most probably means getting enough for a deposit.) Is that only a tiny fraction of people will be making good money through this.

The vast majority make next to nothing in a crowded market. These success stories often make it seem like it's that easy to make a fortune when only the 1% will make minimum wage. If you have an Instagram following it's easy to make it, otherwise it's very difficult.

I imagine it's really not the easy work of a few photos a week to keep people paying.

---

The revenue of content creators follows a classic power law distribution. The top accounts make something like $100,000 a month (these aren’t in my sample). The median account makes $180 a month.

The top 1% of accounts make 33% of all the money. The top 10% of accounts make 73% of all the money. This isn’t the 80:20 rule; it’s the 80:14 rule.

Being an independent explicit online content creator is by many accounts exhausting. Your “fans” are not merely fans, they’re paying customers. To keep that sweet money flowing into their bank accounts, content creators often have to work harder and harder to satisfy their patrons.

no absolutely not is it progress! there are so many reasons why porn is bad. there is more to women than their bodies and onlyfans is just feeding into the patriarchy and misogyny. these men who pay for onlyfans will never ever respect women because they just see them as a body they can wank off to. onlyfans needs banning it is so toxic

Good for her. She's barely out of her teens and already secured her financial future for life. She's got her head screwed on to invest her money in to property as well. If you've got it why not make the most of it. I think a lot who hate women going on Only Fans are just jealous they don't have the looks to make that cash themselves.

It's not like there's only women on OnlyFans, there are plenty of guys making money on OnlyFans. We just don't see news articles on the money they make.

As a guy myself, I'll never understand how men can spend so much money on buying a woman's photos, videos etc, but never meeting them. At least with escorts the guy is paying for actual sex, rather than virtually. It takes all sorts I guess. At the end of the day though, these mugs are paying for this stuff, so young attractive women will exploit that opportunity.

I watch a few podcasts from comedians in the USA. One podcast there's a girl working on there as an assistant/producer type, and she said she's always getting asked by guys on her social media if she can take photos and videos of her feet and they'll pay. Of her feet?! Lol mental.

It worries me that the content could follow you around for the rest of your life.

I’d love to know the stats and if they make more money/have an easier time because the market isn’t as saturated

I’m all for bodily autonomy and sexual freedom, but the reality of OFs is that it’s made to look easier and better than it really is. “Quick money” but only if you’re going to pander to stuff that may be outside of your comfort zone or provide something that someone else isn’t providing
I wonder how much of that narrative is also being pushed by men and therefore normalised
