Could you make a holiday out of it? Get a flight to somewhere else in Italy that's a train ride from Rome so hopefully cheaper accommodation then just stay in Rome the night you are seeing them?
Yeah that has been mentioned too. We've already been to Rome and been the ultimate tourists - so it could easy be an "n out out for the gig" job. Time to get planning
