Maria is someone who has a lot of issues. We all worry about partners and kids but hers is next level. She takes it to the extreme and that’s not healthy. There has to be some underlining issues there. Someone extremely close to me nearly died last week and could again but I’m not harbouring major issues like she she is. Worried, yes but not how she’s going about it. I’d say a few of us can relate. Hers is something else. Possible her peri menopause and heightened anxiety which for her could be worsen However, I also don’t think she’s on the right dosage for HRT or gel (not an expert in this area). Every household has something going on and she’s very OTT.

As someone who has had seizures at night time and dealt with all the repercussions of them, no I don’t remember the seizure itself but I would be (and am) terrified of night time in case it happens again. It my partner was to stop sleeping beside me because of his own trauma from my seizures I would just feel more scared. I don’t want to be alone. I want to know someone is there with me even if they can’t do anything. Seizures are incredibly traumatic for the person having them, whether they verbalise that or not. Maria makes me so angry!!

It has become very clear to me that Maria is neurodivergant; in fact the whole family seems to be. No doubt any of that could be challenging to cope with but she's also additionally isolated herself to the extreme - remaining a stay at home mother far longer than typical; not pursuing work or other interests outside the home; and now dramatizing Phil's seizures for head pats and attention.
Her bizarre joy for life once she's away from her family/Mangere (example - recent mystery trip to Berlin) is also very interesting. She seems to very much enjoy the helpful sister/daughter/aunt vibe but resent her own family.

I hope the breadcrumbs she's dropping about seeing her GP/going on HRT may lead her in the right direction of some very helpful diagnosis and the right kind of assistance/counsellings that could open up her world - if only she was willing to hear some difficult truths.

My take on MFM is that she’s trying to be sarcastic/cool/funny with her irreverent attitude to her family but it’s not coming off that well.
She’s also being very selfish. I hope she gets the help she needs for her own sake.
My dad had epilepsy and suffered all three types of seizures and he had them often. It must have been pretty traumatising for my mum who saw the night time ones often but needed to stay aware of them lest he hurt himself. Some examples would be letting himself out of the house in the middle of the night, climbing on a bench in the middle of the night, multiple big seizures in bed which involved urinating, and the care needed afterwards in which yes, he didn’t remember them, but felt tired and out of sorts for ages afterwards as well as (presumably) shame and embarrassment, guilt etc. Mum managed to look after us as well as work full time and deal with her own emotions and feelings about it all. Did she feel resentment? Without a doubt but did we all know about it? No. Well sometimes haha. It’s called adulting.

Yep I think she is Autistic and hyper fixated on herself and all the problems in her body and life. I have thought it for a long time.

The husband (Phil) also seems to be neurodivergant so likely doesn't recognize her behaviour for what it is - I know guys like this - they don't pick up on others behaviour irregularities when they're obvious to outsiders, and they live a seemingly happy life just trying their best to comply, and fix practical problems. It's not the kind of stimulating, motivating / passionate relationship a lot of us see as normal.
