Wayne Rooney had consensual sex with a sex worker. Yes he had a girlfriend / wife but Im struggling to see what the similarities are here?

This is on Noel and Noel alone. If other people have sexually assaulted women or sexually harrassed women then I hope in time there victims feel able to report it. We should not be naming others to detract from the alleged offences.

I love how its been open secret what he was like in Dr Who circles for years what he was like but the people that make the Dr Who audio stories cancelled James Dreyfuss for the crime of saying he didn't like the term "cis"

As a Doctor Who fan, I find it really interesting that was in it originally as Rose's (Billie Piper) boyfriend. He was brought back for a special episode with loads of returning characters and they never interacted. Did Billie want nothing to do with him?
Funnily enough, Billie and Noel were an item for a bit, completely and utterly confirming that Billie Piper has immensely shit taste in men.

I’m disgusted that people are even attempting to defend him with all this whataboutery tripe. 20 people have made allegations ffs, do you think they all cobbled together to set him up? I can’t help but feel that those defending him are the kinds of people who either behave in the same way or would do given the chance.

And yet again, we come back to male entitlement. I do know that NAMALT and I love lots of men in various ways, but FFS, why do so many of them when given an inch take a mile in order to exploit or humiliate women? Yeah yeah I know, it's because they can, but it's really pissing me off now.
As I said in an earlier comment when other women dont believe women, the authorities dont even need to. Societal normals allow men to behave in a way that isnt acceptable.

Many brave people have commented in this thread of being sexually assaulted at work and feeling unable to report it or worse being told 'cant be proven' this is one thread on one forum on the internet. Someone has set up a website for people to anonymously talking about there SA. The stories are harrowing http://Everyonesinvited.uk

I was a *child* when I first started getting unwanted attention, it makes me sick that because theres "no proof" that automatically these men are presumed innocent and Im presumed a liar.

Imagine being asked to wear your school uniform to meet someone who is of age of consent when you are under the age of consent.

Imagine queuing to get a drink in a club and having a man put his hand up your skirt and inside your underwear.

Oh wait no I dont need to imagine because Ive lived it.

For so many women this has been life for so long so yes maybe unfairly we do assume guilt but jesus christ. Try calling men out on it, they gaslight you, say it was a joke, youre frigid or better yet 'youve got to be joking youre a fat/ugly bitch like Id touch you'

What these women are saying is very serious.

Again Roxanne Pallet what if there were no cameras there? She would have been believed, but she wasn’t telling the truth. And I know that’s just one example but it can happen!

Which is why I’m saying, it needs a full investigation before it can be decided it’s all the absolute truth.

If I was making an allegation I’d want to prove it in any way I could.
Do you think the Guardian (a historically liberal paper) would stake their reputation and publish a story about a black man in such a climate of racial injustice if they believed they didn’t have solid proof?? If it was a white heterosexual male they might take a risk...but with NC a celebrated black actor and producer highly unlikely.

I suspect NC thought he was beyond reproach. NO ONE should be under that illusion.

Having known people who worked with him, I knew he was an out and out bully but the sexual harassment stuff is just awful. I note that Barrowman is trending alongside NC so I’m hoping that people will start to see his so called “hi-jinks” of exposing himself on set as what they really are: abuse and harassment

20 different people, from production to those acting alongside him, have made allegations against him. One or two, you might think there is a chance of misunderstandings. But 20 people? Are the police involved?

So because I don’t agree I must keep quiet. Says it all really. Please read what I wrote above, i think a healthy debate is good, key to an evolving and changing society.

I am a woman too and I am allowed an opinion on this, it is not in bad taste at all.
Yeah, I'm not really interested in "healthy debate" when it comes to someone who is, at best, a creep who took advantage of women he had a duty of care for and at worst, a sexual predator.

I don’t believe anyone’s guilt should be assumed without solid proof you are correct.

I wondered why the police weren’t involved because the allegations are so serious it seems to be that it should warrant the police.

I think the women are very brave and correct for speaking out but I don’t think ‘trial by media’ is the right way to go about it. Whilst it seems very much like this guy has done some awful awful things, what if it’s not true, or part of it’s not true? I don’t think that it should just be assumed every single detail is true based on what people have said. So, my opinion is just that it should be fully and formally investigated.

I really think people on here seem to think I’m sticking up for him and not the women, it’s not that, I’ve said several times I think the guy seems like an worse... I just think before someone is crucified by the media and public, it should be absolutely solidly proven to be true and surely anyone here would want that wouldn’t they if allegations were publicly made about them?
You're failing to understand just how difficult it is to "absolutely solidly prove it to be true" 😭 You're showing yourself as someone who has no understanding of how difficult it is to get a conviction on these cases, how much the system already favours the predator, notice how your putting the victims on trial instead of the criminal, the current system was written by men, for men and until that changes this is the only was to expose these predators and protect other women from them. Stop contributing to rape culture. If the best way to get protection was to go to the police, women would do that, you don't know that they haven't, maybe they have and were told there was insufficient evidence. If you're teaching your son about consent you really don't need to be worrying about him being falsely accused because of the way the world is headed.....however the risk to your daughter is very real because of how the way the world currently is, that is a legitimate worry. Your son has a higher chance of being struck by lightning.

Remember the Taylor Swift trial with that DJ who groped her? He had the absolute audacity to try and sue her first and his defence team’s questions to Taylor during the trial were disgusting! That’s exactly the sort of crap us women have to deal with in these situations.

And the guardian need to be praised for their hardwork. It will have taken years to bring this together and get women to speak about their ordeals.
The guardian must've worked so hard before publishing the article and marking sure their lawyers were behind them.

He has done some utterly vile things so why shouldn't he deal with the consequences

Yes and that’s totally a valid point from a mother’s point of view... I would feel exactly the same if it were my daughter. You cannot prove being groped, but there are others ways, did you tell anyone at the time? Are there witnesses? Etc. That’s all I’m saying.

However... continuing the whataboutery. What if it were my son being accused? I’d want the proof and all I’ve said here is that I think before the media blows this up, it should be investigated more than just taking the statements from the women.
I also have a son. If my son was accused by 20 women with corroborating stories and evidence then the liklihood is he did it.

It has been investigated thoroughly by the Guardian imo. They didnt just take statements, theyve been shown texts, photos etc. They will have fact checked all they can and had lawyers check what they are printing.

It was one investigative article and hasnt been sensationalised at all like the red tops would have.

Yes but 1 or 20 it can be just as damaging.

I think my point was, without there being solid proof it is his word against the others and until that’s proven I don’t really think someone’s career should be ruined over it. As I mean I’m not stupid there’s no smoke without fire, but what if it’s not 100% true or been exaggerated.

These woman have the absolute right and bravery to speak out and I totally respect them for that.
I feel like you’re missing the point entirely.

A lot of men (especially men in powerful positions) get away with this behaviour because they know there’s not enough evidence and take advantage of the fact that it will be his word against hers/theirs. Taking this to an actual court will be incredibly hard unless there’s solid evidence and/or witnesses. And lack of evidence doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. And considering there’s at least 20 women now I think it’s fair to assume it’s all true.

I'm really quite surprised to see people still questioning the women who have come forward (away from this site, too).

Is it really that hard to believe women when they speak out about sexual harassment and assault? I dunno. This stuff just hits very close to home for a lot of us. Too many women close to me have been sexually harassed and no, it wasn't "innocent until proven guilty" - those men WERE guilty. None of those incidents ever made it to court but I believe them all.

I must admit I thought that was a slightly old fashioned take. It’s not on victims to prevent other potential victims.

As I've already said. This happened to me at work by a colleague. I went through the right channels and was utterly let down and left in limbo. Much like these women coming forward.
Why shouldn't I tell a journalist my story? Why should I have to keep quiet? Yes I can go to the police, they'll do very little but why shouldn't these women speak to the guardian?

As I have said above... I don’t think it’s right or just to go to the media or social media to publicly accuse someone of something life destroying. Roxanne pallet is a good example of how easy it is as are the numerous emotionally charged responses to my posts on here taking one word of a post and changing what it says, that in itself shows how easy it is to twist things. I’ve read the whole article but in my professional past I’ve read a lot of statements and it’s always good to hear two sides to each story. It’s not upto me to decide if he’s guilty, as I said above of it was a member of the public would it be enough to destroy their life based on a social media post?! In the past guys I know have walked women home to protect them, they’ve been accused of being “sexist” when they were just trying to be nice people yet of something came out about them publicly everyone should believe it 100% because men can’t possibly be nice kind humans?! This is dangerous. The fact that people can say it must be true because it’s the guardian is mental!!this is all from one newspaper article. A newspaper! I wouldn’t want the emotionally charged public being judge jury and executioner For any case but then again I think the crown court should have legally trained jury members not untrained members of the public and this page tonight have proven why.

This is such a lightweight, man fawning and inconsequential post. I feel exhausted by it. So depressing
