Day 14

Like an idiot I forgot to get a Mother's Day card while I was out yesterday so I picked one up as well as two World Book Day freebie books for my kiddos.

Going to have to be stricter with future no spend fortnights as with all the bill increases, I need to make more savings just to be able to afford to live!
I hope you discovered you've actually got another week until Mother's day - it's this Sunday! 😁 Perhaps you are just super prepared!

NSD today, I did have to pick up milk but that’s from the food shop money. I stopped myself buying ‘treats’ that I could munch on before picking the kids up so better for my diet too.

Day 13

Popped out for some bits yesterday. Needed nappy pants for my eldest, a whole load of painkillers for my OH and some bits to pad out our lunch stuff. Think I spent less than £40 all in and we had leftover nappy budget so it was covered 😊 One more day to go! Five more days to pay day! 🥳

My bank gives monthly categories of spend. It’s a bit annoying as it doesn’t align with my pay or pip though!

I did £230 for the calendar month of Jan for groceries (Plus about £8 in cash) I’d like to get that down a bit but not sure if it’s possible.

Lots of shopping but I had money from Xmas and bought a lot of house stuff in the sales

£10 on “entertainment” Netflix and streaming.
For how many do you need to buy groceries? And do you have a market that sell fresh fruit and veg?

I do the £4.99 Netflix plan and it’s fine. It’s like 1 15-30 second advert every maybe 20ish minutes so not too disruptive. My husband (an advert hater) has even said it doesn’t bother him so yay! Easy way to save £6/month
I’ll do this. Thank you!

Yesterday was so good only spent £10.00 on essential groceries, no extras.
But then Mr Lolz asked me to order a blind as we are redecorating 😩
He’s not participating btw but he also doesn’t do online shopping. So £50 over spend 🥲
Btw why are blinds so expensive! It’s only a small roller blind. Nothing fancy
Is it a permanent blind or just temporary for the decorating? You can pick up cheap ones from IKEA and Dunelm for a fiver

Day 8

Working from office day so took a packed lunch. No money spent as we already had dinner stuff at home.

Day 9

Working from office day but had to leave before lunch as my youngest needed to go to hospital. Yet another viral chest infection. Didn’t have breakfast or lunch as too stressed about baby, OH used his McDonald's app points to buy as dinner once the boys were in bed. Been a long day 😴
Hope you're little one is okay! My son was the same, we were in and out of hospital for a few years until we started mentioning NICE guidelines and he got a brown inhaler!

I've had a spendy few days, got a long awaited promotion at work so had a Chinese to celebrate and then my son has been off school poorly with his chest so a BK for lunch! Back on no spend now!

What is the best budgeting app that people have used? I downloaded snoop but I couldn't make heads nor tails of it. I'm wanting to stop all the takeaway hot chocolates and just buying general shite I don't need. Id ideally like to meal plan and know what I'm going to be making so I can start saving up as got a holiday at the end of the year

I was like this but an older lady educated me on cost per wear. If you love it to bits and wear it to death, it will work out cheaper than all the cheap items you buy and never wear.
..................................................................

Don't forget the library for free books and you can order in to your local library online with the hold button, or reserve it to read online through Borrowbox.
That’s very true about cost per wear, I never thought of it like that. Also, thanks for the reminder about the library - I have been meaning to join!

Im decorating too, i had promised my son (21) that i would paint his room when he is away for a week visiting his girlfriend in Lithuania.
It hasnt been decorated since we moved in 6 yrs ago, went a bit mad and am now 160€ lighter.
New rollers, ceiling paint, and a pot of Little Greene Paint Companys finest.
Blown my budget for the month, putting it down as a need not a want.

Success for me yesterday, however today I went out and bought some nice fresh bread from the bakery which I can portion and freeze! I caved to a coffee, which bones was so unnecessary but which I really enjoyed as a consequence 😂😂 I’ll need to nip out and do a small top up shop this week, but will be using up fresh to restock the freezer which I am also using meals out of.

I took advantage of the sales to stock up on skincare for a good month or two, and have made £130 on Vinted instead of buying more. I definitely could pop more on there, but does anyone else just really stall at the first hurdle 😂
It's mind numbingly boring uploading but I love when the money rolls in

So far i have managed two non spend days this month. Was hoping for another tomo but need cereal although out the food budget so not really counted and i need to pick up the free items with lidl plus before they end anyway. Key thing will be to stick to what i need only. Back to work tomo so got to be organised with taking food.

Ended up spending yesterday, we got a Chinese for tea as we'd spent all day gutting the house and there was still a big stack of dishes to be done at teatime 🤣 not bad for a first week though!! Back on it today 🫡🫡

Watch out in it, though, for van Tulleken’s lazy recommendation to the budget-restrained of us to follow the work of one Jack Monroe. For me, to chivvy the povs towards Missy Grifter Shan’t Cook Can’t Cook discredited the rest*.

*Damn shame as the rest might be fine, and I’ve a lot of time for UPF avoidance ☹
I've learnt to be a bit cynical when I see a famous face fronting a book.
Some even pushing the real author to the back cover - looking at you Vordemortman!
