Nigel Farage

Nigel's flaw really is that he's power and money hungry and does stupid, greedy things. He's not perfect by any means. But he's not a monster.
I'd argue selling your country down the river for personal gain, pretty much knowing it would make the rest of the population poorer is monsterous.

UKIP doesn't even exist any more afaik as its only aim was Brexit. It's now Reform UK. So it's just calling Brexit far right 😂

He is a disgusting, grasping racist bleep though.

First point fair enough :) Third point nah white Irish aren’t a separate race from white British. Kind of off topic tho
Being somewhat flippant and diminishing the discrimination that Irish people have faced in the UK is never a good look. Anti-Irish propaganda in England goes back many centuries, usually centred around how supposedly thick they are, even though the likes of James Joyce, Yeats and Oscar Wilde et al proved somewhat otherwise, mastering a language that wasn't their mother tongue.

I think it's always good to have an understanding of an ethnicity you refer to. Of course, Nigel proved that he's ignorant about this when interviewed on RTE two years ago. But then he's never been one for detail - more going for base statements that don't have much to do with the truth when scrutinised.

Too much hyperbole again and not enough robust discussion. Pumpkin would be sad
Robust discussion doesn't mean calling people bellends, you know.

I swear ‘base statements that can be scrutinised for the truth’ like NIGE IS RACIST take up a lot of my words and Pumpkin Bae’s thread space so good you don’t like them now Pete ;)
Not flippant about Irish struggles but Irish just isn’t a race or ethnicity? I didn’t say they haven’t faced discrimination
Not knowing the Irish phrase up the ra doesn’t mean you can’t be educated around Irish history. Nigel shouldn’t really be sticking his oar in on TV as a Brit though
Think I called you a bellend for saying something like “Do share why immigrants make any difference to motorway traffic” and I was like um they’re in the cars? But I’m sorry it wasn’t personal, just that was a slightly bellendish comment 😂
Have a strawberry 🍓

There's actually some topical news about fluffy if anyone's bored of discussing Brexit and racism- Coutts have said they didn't remove him for political reasons
I'm sure Coutts said they removed his account as his political values didn't align with theirs. If they did nowt wrong, why did Alison Rose resign....

Well they can give their opinion just like anyone else but a lot of decent points are submerged underneath over the top statements and insults which his fans never stoop to really 😂

Oh dear - the irony.

It's odd to continually defend someone who has said that Enoch Powell is their political hero and backs the "basic principle" of their rivers of blood speech, has commented that they wouldn't like to live next to a house of Romanians, has said that parts of the UK are like a foreign land and feels uncomfortable hearing people speaking in foreign languages whilst on a train in south London.

People are free to like who they want. But many do seem to be taken in by posh voiced "blokes" who rant about the establishment when they are very much products of the establishment. Add to that his rampant xenophobia and it's hard to see how he's likeable.

However, I would like to have a pint with Nigel, but only to pour it over his head.

The basic principle of the speech is just about uncontrolled immigration and defending your country and culture ://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivers_of_Blood_speech which is why he was careful to say he backs the BASIC PRINCIPLE and nothing that leans towards actual racism.

The Romanians comment was about a group of blokes whatever their culture which just doesn’t happen with English blokes, but it does with migrant housing as this YouTube comment explains
And the other languages comment was saying about NO English being heard which is pretty shocking tbh, not about other languages being spoken 😂 so that’s just not accurate

Erm, there are quite often large groups of White English men in HMO's, hostels, temporary accommodation. It isn't housing exclusively reserved for Romanian men. I've worked in housing and I've worked in the community with (mainly male) ex-offenders, I've seen it with my own eyes.

Yeah but that’s British people in need, with societal problems, not as a matter of course. You say it yourself, you work in housing for desperate people (which is laudable, well done, and your contributions are great)! It’s pretty rare for a group of ten English men to be in a house privately renting unless they’re at the bottom of society and will cause problems. Landlords exploit migrants.

But why would a house full of Romanian men be any more problematic than a house full of male students or British men renting (which, to be honest some tower blocks can essentially be as they're small single bedroomed flats)?

Council run tower blocks have notorious social issues and they’re not just full of young men. A block of fifteen young men with the income or social issues to be housed in a tower block WOULD be a nightmare. And Romanians are of course migrants, which brings up other issues. Poor English, precarious income. It just doesn’t make a great social experience

Poor English, being a migrant and having precarious income would make them more difficult to live next to than a group of White British men?

Tower blocks do also house families and women, but I wouldn't necessarily say that the 'income and social issues to be placed there' is fair, a lot of people have no choice in the cards they're dealt. A lot of women fleeing domestic abuse, for example, are housed there. Single men (or women) who don't have kids and can't afford private rent live there. Yes there are people there with substance misuse issues, for example, but that isn't the entirety of the residents there.

This country's culture is from other countries. There is hardly anything that is intrinsically "British". Enoch Powell was racist as hell, and anyone who endorses him in any shape or form is morally reprehensible.

Farage saying he didn't hear English being spoken at all for a few stops on a South London train is absolute balls, no doubt. It's certainly not what I've experienced on a train in South London, and I'm sure I've taken more train journeys in that part of London than "cuddly" Nigel. It's also ridiculous when people raise this as an issue. Why should people from a certain ethnic background speak in English if they're with people from the same background or talking to them on the phone? I await you chastising Brits abroad who do this in countries other than their own.

P.S. Using BLOCK CAPITALS doesn't lend any weight to a "point".

Top bit about there being nothing British can’t be arsed. Know we have a tricky history but 🍪
Enoch Powell may be racist (the worst I can find is just things about protecting our country from outsiders rather than actually having an issue with certain races. Know the irony with Britain’s colonial history) 😂 but Nigel just said he agreed with the basic principle of the speech. Enoch Powell is a person of his time anyway when people were less tolerant of anyone different. The basic idea is keeping our identity
It’s not that foreigners should try and speak English, but why are there SO many foreigners in a suburban (not tourist) area of London that he didn’t hear any English at all? We have to take him at his word
I just used capitals as an alternative to bold or italics :)

I haven’t watched it I’m getting ready for my hair appointment, but Enoch actually responds to being called a racist here

The BLM movement is controversial. It's not just about being anti racist, it's got political undertones. Describing those who defend it as 'anti racist' is topical. I don't really want to go into the history of slavery here as it's a bit off topic, but that poster held below is quite negative and aggressive. It doesn't look like a peaceful anti racist protest, it looks pretty inflammatory. He's not criticising anti racism, he's criticising BLM.

''But Mr Farage , former leader of the Brexit Party, described the scenes as “terrifying,” likening protesters to a “paramilitary-like force.”

“This is what the BLM movement wanted from the start and it will divide our society like never before,” he said on social media. ''

That's not really a 'slur'. He's not commenting on a group of black people walking peacefully and saying they're terrifying, he's commenting on scenes like the one below.
I don’t agree with BLM and nor do a lot of people I know, including some black people. Sad times that you can be accused of being racist because you don’t agree with aggressive, threatening, intimidating mats. BBC manipulated the photos a lot, I remember one in particular that shocked me was a black fella looking like a hero in a photo but the uncropped photo showed him brandishing a knife/machete. It was then that I realised I’d been a fool.
