So… I moved back to the UK recently and found a 2 bed house share, my housemate was amazing and I loved our little flat, it really felt like a home but she got posted abroad and moved out 3 weeks ago. I had to find a replacement so after about 50 viewings I finally thought I’d found the perfect replacement but this week has been a nightmare.

Within 10 mins of her moving in she went through every cupboard and rearranged everything, moved all my stuff around and threw half the stuff out. I was like okaaay, bit weird.

She’s made it very clear that she doesn’t share, we have 2 washing up liquids, 2 sponges, 2 toilet roll holders, 2 separate sets of knives of forks, pots, pans, bowls …you name it! It feels very studenty!

I came home on Thursday at about 1am as I was at a work event and she’d double locked the door and put the chain on so I couldn’t get in … I rang the bell and her phone all night and she didn’t answer until 10am meaning I missed work and didn’t even say sorry!

Just now, I was in my room and I heard the front door go and it turns out she’s having all her friends over for a ‘moving in party’ .. they’ve all brought litres and litres and alcohol and I’m hiding in my room. I went to go and say hi but she’s locked the front room door, am I being unreasonable thinking she should have text me and give me a heads up?

Any ideas? I don’t want to come across like an arsehole 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I love you guys!! So, I’ve been bored at home all day whilst she was at work so I’ve rearranged the house back to how it was and taken all ‘communal’ household items like toilet roll and cleaning stuff out of the bathroom and the kitchen … I realised she’d been using all my stuff then when it runs out replacing it but hiding it and not sharing🤦🏼‍♀️. She’s just got home took one look at the kitchen and went straight to her room without even saying hello … I’m just enjoying a glass of wine in my old front room 😂

I’ve come to the conclusion that she’s just a brat, I'm wfh today and I heard her leave for work .. about 10 mins later I was on a call with my headphones in and could hear some banging so I went to investigate and there was was kicking the front door! I opened it like ‘are you okay?’ And she just pushed me out the way and said, ‘I forgot my keys and now im late because you didn’t answer’ no thank you or anything … I think I want rid 😂

She’s a dick and very rude. You’re going to have to have a word but tbh I’ve been in a similar situation and it’s such a horrible atmosphere, it only resolved when that person leaves.

she already sounds like a nightmare! Locking you out the house, throwing stuff out the cupboards and now having a party on a Sunday night and not even telling you and not only that, but locking the front room door?? She needs to be reminded this is a houseSHARE! Cheeky cow!

You need to seriously man up here and say something to her. The longer you allow this sort of behaviour, the longer it will continue because she knows she can get away with it. I would start making it clear you both live there, she either learns to live alongside you as two adults or she leaves because its clearly not working. Spend time in your living room, walk around the place unafraid, and if she has a problem - tough! I was in a similar situation about 10 yrs ago when I shared a flat with someone and I swore never again. I feel for you. Can you maybe share your concerns with the landlord?

Scratch all of the above haha I’ve woken up this morning and she’s rearranged the kitchen and the living room, used all of the only toilet roll I left out and 2 of the dining room chairs have disappeared 😂😂😂😂😂

Fight fire with fire, she's a bully and that's all she will understand.

Make the place a hell for her to live in. be petty and leave the kitchen in a real state for days on end, use her pans and burn shit to the bottom of them that even wire wool wouldn't remove 🤣, cook mackerel for tea every single night and never take the bins out, leave food to rot in the fridge and soak rags in milk then warm them in the microwave and put them in a zip lock bag with just a small part open and hide them behind sofas and in communal areas, have friends over all the time. Lock doors. Buy a drum set, a new pet spider. Have a lovely bubble bath from 7-9 in the morning so she can't get ready for work and while in the bath shave every hair on your body and leave it all sat in the bath once the water drains, stop flushing the toilet, leave windows open when it's cold or invite friends to smoke under her windows when it's warm, always have an old towel festering in the washing machine, log into your WiFi router and change the password, take fuzes out of electrical appliance plugs in a random order - become everything you would hate in a house mate!

If you don't have the same petty in you as me 🙈😅 then perhaps have a chat with the landlord and ask nicely if there is anything you can do 🙏

I feel for you, I've had noisy neighbours before and that was bad enough 😢

I genuinely can’t believe people like this exist. I’m gobsmacked by how weird she is. I hate making things awkward or thinking I’ve annoyed people, so I can’t get my head around her doing exactly that.

Thanks everyone! There’s nothing really left for her to take … theres not even a bin bag in the communal bin 😂. She hasn’t said more than hello in 2 weeks so I’m going to suggest we have dinner one night this week and break the ice! I love living here and the location is amazing so fingers crossed things will get better!

As long as she's stopped mucking you about!
Ironically her clients probably think *she's* amazing because of you! I'd love to get drunk after getting my makeup done! 😂
Haha one of them worked with her and she said everyone at work hates her as she’s so rude and miserable, so maybe it’s not just me 😂 I honestly want to give her an Oscar for how friendly she was when she came to view!

I think they told her to stop being so unreasonable after she complained about so many stupid things. That‘s what I’m hoping will happen … I’m already working out how to approach it. Accelerating my efforts to get a boyfriend so I can just move him in 😂. She’s just odd, I got my phone stolen last night and saw her in the kitchen earlier so told her and she just went ’gutted’ … didnt ask any questions! I’m far too nosey, I’d have asked all sorts if the roles were reversed, she didn’t even say ‘are you okay‘ … such a strange person!

I feel the same but didn’t want to think I’m being a dick only one week in 😂. She complained to the landlord that all the furniture in the room was broken (I checked with my old housemate and she was like no it isn’t) .. so they brought her all new stuff over last weekend, the poor guy is about 80 and the lift is broken. I felt terrible watching him lugging all these drawers up the stairs so went to help, she just lounged on her bed. Then when he was assembling them I made him a cup of tea and I noticed yesterday that she hadn’t washed the cup up .. I haven’t really been here this week so didn’t realise but she’d washed up around it and left in on the side … I think it’s so petty 🤦🏼‍♀️

About 1am … they’ve cleaned up which is a relief! He text the landlord asking if they would mind if I took the catch off the door and they were super nice about it! I made sure I made lots of noise at 6am this morning before going to work 😂
