I've read that thread and I'm rather confused what the issue is. Am I missing something obvious?

I had a bad attack of internal rage today.
Apart from a bit of snippiness - which the subject of my rage quite possibly didn't notice - I managed to keep it to myself.
I work in an office close to the high street of a small town. Every lunchtime I walk into town to buy my lunch and take it back to the office.
On my way back, I go into the newsagent to buy a newspaper and a flake.
The shop assistant is murderous-thought inducingly annoying. She is the kind of person who speaks to her elderly customers in a higher than usual sing-sing voice and seems to think that a bit of patronising chit-chat should be part of the service.
My annoyance started to accelerate a few weeks ago. I had bought a sausage roll from Greggs before I went into the newsagent.
"Oooo! That smells nice, what are we having for lunch today?" She asked.
I decided to ignore her question and paid for my paper and flake.
A few days ago, the weather was colder than had been forecast (unfortunately, the heatwave everyone else seems to be getting has passed us by). It was cold and windy and I wasn't wearing a jacket or cardigan.
"Oooo! Aren't you cold dressed like that?" She asked.
I ignored her question and paid for my paper and flake.
Yesterday, I put my paper and flake on the counter and waited to pay. As she picked up my flake, she said:
"Oooo! You really love these, don't you? You'll look like one soon if you aren't careful"
Am I unreasonable to expect a shop assistant to respect my privacy, not to quiz me on what I am having for lunch, comment on what I am wearing or what I am buying?
I don't mind a quick "It's a lovely day today" type of interaction, but all I actually want from her is quick and efficient service.

REPLY - Do you ever mix it up and buy something different to a flake?

REPLY TO THAT - Don't ask op a question ffs, you'll set her off 🤣

😂

Surprised a Mumsnetter admitted to eating a sausage roll and multiple flakes!

15 year olds often come running to Mumsnet for advice don’t they🤔
Since when do you buy candy from a deli ffs? Our local deli sells hummus and cured meat and pate and olives and tit like that, not a Twix in sight.

If that's a 15yo posting then I am the late great Princess Diana.

"Very Complicated Situation" in AIBU is in fact not complicated, she just needs to LTB. Which it turns out MN told her to do a year ago (advice she did not follow).

Omg! I’d bloody love this. I loved Barry Island (we’ll gloss over the random person I saw feeding the local rat population, walking back from the beach 👀)
Whitmore Bay on Barry Island is absolutely beautiful.
The Travelodge is dead cheap and there's a Wetherspoons, or we could stay in the overpriced What's Occur-Inn, handy for the best chippy in town.

MN posters would be stuffed here, most shop staff ask, ‘how are you?’ As a greeting ( it is just a greeting) imagine the vapours at such a query from ‘staff’.
When you pass strangers on a walk outside larger cities it’s not uncommon for people to say hello and acknowledge you!

Maybe the behaviour of shop staff and people on walks is a secret immigration test to keep out Mumsnetters?

This may be a bit too niche but ‘paper and a flake’ woman reminds me of ‘fish and a rice cake’ guy

I love fish and a rice cake 😂

My favourite bit is that his meals were fish then fish and a rice cake then fish then fish and a rice cake over and over again and he was like at 12 I have fish then at three I have erm fish and a rice cake then at 6 I'll have err errm erm fish 😂 Why did he need so much thinking time! 😂

I think the after 38 years my husband wants an open marriage thread is a troll.

The OP is all crushingly low self-esteem and sadness until someone suggests it may just not be real (some of aunties reported and it has been hidden) then gets really snarky before reverting back to a 21st century Patient Griselda.

That doesn't read like a 15 year old and it sounds like it's written by an American.

The spelling is not American, and some of the phrases also are not (we don’t typically say denim jacket or denim jeans. Usually jean jacket and blue jeans or just jeans). But words such as “store” are more what we would say here (instead of shop. In fact a shop here means something else to the British word for store). I as more confused by this being written by a 15-year-old but the store clerk was apparently the same age. Doesn’t sound right for a deli.
