Anyone reading the shower thread on AIBU? This one made me laugh out loud. A shower timer

I used to have a housemate who took 45 minute showers. This poster would probably have expired after that long.

The utility bill threads sometimes make me wonder if anyone actually bothers to check how much things really cost before getting themselves into a state about it. I shower for about 15-20 minutes a day and with my crappy electric shower that I run very hot it costs less than 15p - unless the OP is really having to budget every last pound in a month it doesn't seem worth fighting over. Granted showers probably vary in efficiency, but loads of posters will go on about how they won't be able to afford hot meals for example, when running an 800W microwave for five minutes costs less than 2p even with the new price cap. Using a gas hob or boiling a cup of water in the kettle is even cheaper. It really annoys me because it seems like most of these posters are exaggerating how much they're struggling for the drama - if they were actually having to count every penny they'd know these things!

My partner suffers from severe depression and also /physical disability. He had a 45 minute shower today. And I’m glad of it. To hear him playing his music on the speaker in the shower and actually hearing him sing along and sounding free is worth every penny to me. They need to get a bleeping life.

How can you shower in 4 minutes? Washing and conditioning my hair takes that long alone.

We stayed with friends in Spain who had their water delivered in a tanker and put into tanks under the house. When we had a shower he stood outside the door with a stop watch and we had 2 minutes under the water - honestly. I only washed my hair once in 8 days.

Bloody hell that shower thread has got completely unhinged! 8 pages so far of people shrieking about NO WONDER THE PLANET IS DYING and people in the Third World (and Australia) not having enough water. It's only a matter of time before someone brings the war in Ukraine into it. I feel like we've been lacking in truly batshit threads for a while so I'm delighted to see it

If you don't mind me asking what are your costings for a 15-20 min shower that costs 15p?
My 10kw shower costs around a £1 in Electric alone for 20 mins. I think the least powerful showers are still 7,5kw. Water is about 40 gallons for 20 mins and that alone I think is more than 15p on metre.
Irrationally I get annoyed by the tap running while cleaning teeth, even though I know it's not much even on water meter it still seems annoying!

I sympathise. Our electric shower costs £2.87 an hour to run at the moment. Might not sound that much but if you have 3 or 4 people needing to shower each day it adds up pretty quickly! I've had to become an expert in speeding up my shower time and have moved on to leave in conditioners instead of in shower ones. I have waist length hair so figure if I can manage the rest of my family have no excuse.

I've been a member of mumsnet for probably 12 years or so. I have a child with special needs so used to find some of the help there so valuable. I've found in recent years though I just don't bother to post much and very rarely spend much time looking on there. It's become such a vile and witchy place and I can really feel my mental health just sink whenever I look on there. I find the opposite on most of Tattle funnily enough.

I'm not sure to be honest - I don't know the power rating of my shower so I'm just going by the price difference on the smart meter before and after use. It does produce the most pathetic trickle of water you've ever seen though so maybe it's unusually cheap?! I was only thinking about the electric and didn't take the water cost into account, that's a good point.

And yeah I'm totally with you on the teeth cleaning, it's such an unnecessary waste. Over time it does add up to a significant amount if everyone in the house is doing it twice a day as well.

I went in there a couple of weeks ago looking for an egg for my husband, have never before actually said out loud in a shop “how much?!?” until I saw the price of these eggs! There were stacks and stacks of them, I think they have really misread the public purse strings at the moment so I’m very sure there will be lots on sale there this week!

I've just ordered some eggs today, they were 50% off, they still charged me a fiver for delivery tho.

I had noticed the changes but they’re pretty subtle. Imagine having such a tit, empty life that you get upset to the point of tears over a website changing its layout

I used to post in the Dry January threads and there would always be snarky comments from people popping into the thread to say we're all alcoholics and they themselves frequently go a month without drinking without even noticing

I'm one of those who can take or leave alcohol and do have to think hard when I last had a drink but I find myself going and pouring a drink whenever I read anybody whanging on about alcohol on MN.
