Mais oui! I know someone else who pretends to be French, but I don't think he's a high enough earner for Mumsnet ladies, or has a niche job that can't be mentioned....
Maybe we're not, but I have noticed an increase in anti-Brit sentiment online at least. Could that be influencing them? Nonetheless, I agree that many British members on Mumsnet are self-hating dolts.Some of them are quite xenophobic about the UK - according to some the UK is the most hated country in Europe, everyone in Europe thinks this , country is a laughing stock, British people dress badly and stand out a mile out so it's obvious they're British. British people don't try the local culture and just eat all inclusive or chips in Spain or bother to learn another language, which isn't strictly true.
The best part was when someone said she was so ashamed to be British that she pretends to be French when she goes on holiday.
There have been some really nasty threads about White British women's appearance before. I was shocked at some of the stuff they were (purportedly) saying about themselves, until I recognised many of the usernames belonging to women who had stated in other threads they were Italian/French/Polish or Black & Asian Brits. So, all I'm saying is, take some of the "aren't WE dreadful?!" threads with a pinch of salt...
The most miserable thread I read was them all complaining about radio callers asking the presenters how they are when they call in:
Presenter: Hi Jack.
Jack: Hi Greg, how are you?
Presnter: Great, thanks for calling in
I think people say "how are you?" to be polite and also without thinking, a natural reflex. But MN posters were angry about it, like disproportionately so.
My fave atm is the lady on £500k and her husband is on £500k, they own a house worth millions....

I saw a thread a while ago, but similar ones crop up regularly, where a baby was dropped from waist height onto a tiled floor hitting its head and the op wanted to know whether to go to a&e…
There’s always stuff like ‘I’ve had a period for 10 weeks and now realised my tampon from two weeks ago is stuck in me, the whole area has gone green and numb, what shall I do’ and someone who will say ‘the nhs are on their knees, don’t waste their time with non-emergencies. Can your husband, a friend or a neighbour help you?
….or alternatively, ‘Ambulance NOW!’

I didn't read the Jake Daniels thread but I was speaking about it at work with some college students who all thought it was a positive thing. My brother works in a school and one of his students aged 16 came out to him that she was a les so I'm hoping that this does some good with others in a similar situation.
I think its pretty easy to spot what nationality most people are, possibly stereotypical of course. But I can usually decide whether someone is Brit, yank, oz, nz, sa or canadian, and similarly with northern/southern europeans - clues come from all kinds of places, language being an obvious one but also clothing, attitudes etc. I agree that no one thinks the British are particularly special or noticeable!! Russians kind of stand out, mainly because they can be quite obnoxious (IME of course)
This reminds me of someone I know who won't go out unless she looks a certain way. According to her, everyone is looking at her hair/clothes/makeup and thinking what a fright she is. I've told her, honestly no-one cares. Most of us are wrapped up in our own world of thoughts and worries and would barely notice her. The comments about us being a laughing stock all over the world are so pathetic and immature.

Yes. I find this so annoying, not just on MN.
People who constantly moan about everything here or esp when they come back from their crappy all inclusive holidays from benidorm and their first social media post ‘god i hate it here’ or something in similar lines.
Whilst UK isn’t perfect in anyway, i still think its one of the better countries to be able to live in.
