Not a particularly good example of how Mumsnet is toxic. It so is, but there are many more examples to choose from.

I have never taken my children to McDonald's. They are 15 and 16. (Needless to say they take themselves there now ) I also never fed them baby chocolate puddings. They're fine. Not spoilt and don't cry when they don't get their own way. I didn't learn that from Mumsnet, I just chose that way myself.

I think it’s probably damaging to families and people’s home lives. My wife is a very smart and very clever person but even she was taken in by it at first, as she now acknowledges as she laughs at the state of it.

but here’s the rub. She arrived on that site when she was vulnerable. Trying for a baby. Being pregnant. Having PND etc.

not long after she started using mumsnet she was railing with a mad zeal against porn, which she had enjoyed previously. And if I disagreed with her about anything, like how long a chicken had been in the oven or whether we had agreed to do something then suddenly I was “gaslighting” and it was “potentially abusive”.

I was actually really worried. If it could get under the skin of someone like her then what might it do to others?

we joke about it now, but I have no doubt it causes damage in family life all over the place. It’s an insidious cultural poison.

Whereas if you posted the same about Peter Andre or Boris Johnson they'd deem that perfectly acceptable. How is that helping society?

I loathe censorship but I would laugh like a drain if that place is ever cancelled and forced to shut down.

I've been looking through the "To ask what your bedroom looks like" thread where they're posting photos of their bedrooms and I love these sort of threads because along with the "Show us your xmas tree" ones they just show how hilariously bad taste the majority of posters on Mumsnet have. Purple walls, yellow bed sheets, all Ikea. Totally the opposite of what you'd expect of a £100k earner who lives in a listed cottage very rurally would decorate their house with. I honestly think they all just spout bullshit

There was the classic show us your bedroom thread where someone posted a photo of a Parisian hotel room and claimed it was their bedroom even when it was revealed where the photo actually came from.

I also read that people were taking photos from property sites and passing them off as their own too.

I’m quite shocked tbh as you know the ones sharing images will be the braggiest ones too.

I honestly need to stop lurking on there for amusement because it actually makes me so miserable. So many of them are absolutely void of joy; it's soul destroying to read. And to I think I can be a miserable cow sometimes, I think I must be like Pollyanna compared to the average mumsnetter.

I've just had a look at that one... God they are awful! I've not seen one that I would want to have myself. The particularly bad ones always come with the comment "not to everyone's taste but we like it" as if they know it's shit

I had to stop lurking too. It wasn't doing my MH any good. Ever since I blocked the website on my phone, I'm a lot more happier.

It’s like the style and beauty board; so many of them act like the next Anna Wintour. Then they have a “what are you wearing today?” thread and you see they are far less Vogue and much more Take a Break style.

I shouldn’t laugh, but that comment is spot on.

That was Crumbs. Resident MN fantasist/troll and she of the Nativity on the village green replete with cherub faced, rosy cheeked children and sheep in fairy lights. Seem to remember she doubled down on the hotel bedroom and the thread got deleted in the end.

I remember her. Didn't she have 6 high achieving kids and a fantasy fairytale Christmas? I remember reading her Christmas gifts that she was sending, pure fantasy they were.

I like the sound of Crumbs. I have just been on the bedroom thread and someone mentioned fake photos of hotels and how they missed Crumbs! Sounds like she/he have been banned.

MN does seem to get an inordinate amount of threads started by trolls. I know it’s a big site but still….
It’s a combination of really shit moderating and the ability to make unlimited name-changes. It allows trolls to run wild and keep coming back over & over again.

It still there:

As a sterling example of the really shit moderation I mentioned above, even when Crumbs was busted for outright lying on this thread, the mods jumped in to defend her

Countless of her lies have been pointed out time & time again, but MN do fuck all about it. And it’s not as if she’s harmless: she’s a sneery fake who hands out shonky medical advice and deliberately tries to make people feel inadequate because they haven’t attained the invented lifestyle she bullshits about.

She was around for a long time as Crumbs, but has had at least two name changes in recent times. She also reduced her 6 high-achieving children to 4.

Hasn’t been spotted since around August-ish, so perhaps she finally has been banned for spinning far too much utter bullshit

Absolutely obsessed with the * how much do you earn * threads
Mostly pretty much 50k plus each
I have 2 jobs and a side job ... I dont earn 18k for all of them
My husband is very badly underpaid. He should be on 40-50k plus he accepts 28k. He's corporate
I'm within m25 also , so a london borough although not technically london . I have 2 adult children at home and one under 16 .. one is literally living on a fishing bed with his son who he has 3 nights a week
It's a 3 bed
. How do I have 2.5 jobs. husband has a decent job and we have an adult son and his son living on a fishing bed in a room that can't house a single bed its that small

Whats that sites obsession with the word ‘goady’

Don’t think i’ve read a thread in the last week where that word wasn’t used at least once

Haha, absolutely this. They're so judgemental and then you see them and they're head-to-toe dowdy Bon Marche meets Joe Brown's.

The same sort of women who say stuff like, "I never use anything but Charlotte Tilbury" and then apply their makeup like the top tips from a 1996 edition of Just 17.
