Can't agree, I think forums do vary a lot. Just like the different threads on tattle do vary a lot.

On Mumsnet they almost encourage people to be unpleasant in their most popular forums and users egg each other on in a way we would let happen here.

Looool agree, there are some really good vibes threads and wonderful contributors that foster those positive communities then some threads are just yikes. I won’t name the thread cos I don’t want a telling off but really interesting long form discussions going on about the economy/sociopolitical things and we get to a point in the thread where a few contributors discussing their work issues/exploitative employers tbh & how they want to move up to the next step of their career and earn more, someone just comes on to talk about her husband’s salary with no like… no developed conversation or point of view? Just drop the figure and that’s enough - like how could you see that point in the convo as appropriate to drop that in, and why is a number remotely interesting? I’ve seen it a few times tbh, if you ever discuss numbers you’ve caught the mumsnet strain of MC wank

A lot of mass contradictions on Mumsnet with the petrol shortage. One minute they're saying everyone's too dependent on cars and how everyone should walk more or use public transport.

Then they're saying they can't do that for all the reasons mentioned above and a lot of excuses about not being able to walk in the rain so back to using their cars again

There was a horrible thread the other day from a woman who was heavily pregnant, didn’t drive and was struggling to walk her son to school. Some of the comments were vile like they were getting off on kicking someone who was down. I thought it was meant to be a supportive, feminist and enclave? You’d never have thought so from reading that!

They’re horrible people. A lot of them have no life and are miserable being sat at home all day with no mates, no human contact other than their husbands and their kids. So they sit online taking out their anger and rage on everyone else whilst forgetting the user they’re piling on, insulting and belittling is someone else behind a screen, someone who has feelings.

I don’t see why anyone would purely get online to bully people. Like a disagreement is one thing, I have had disagreements on here several times - but to get online and bully people for no reason other than them not acting like you or not having the same views, or even struggling with money or their relationship, is just showing that you’re a miserable cunt with a personality disorder.

I strongly believe someone will go too far on that site one day and it will end in tragedy.

People on there do forget that there is a real person with feelings behind the screen, someone who may be struggling with all sorts of issues and may need support not a pile on which only serves to make the nasty person feel better about themselves and the one seeking advice/support wish they hadn't bothered posting or even worse than they did before.

It's like a form of blood sport to some on there at times.

Who's to know it hasn't already? People's phones / computers are locked so it would be unlikely anyone could see internet activity.

There have been some awful threads where it seems like someone desperate has gone for advice only to be ripped a new one.

The thing I really like about here compared to there is that conversation seems to be much more flowing, there's no piling onto someone for an unpopular opinion, more a dissection of ideas and agreement to agree to disagree without having to flame the person.

There used to be a MN “royalty” poster who would pick someone up on something then follow them round the site after using advanced search mouthing off at them. People used to say oh it’s only… (can’t remember their name now)

The latter seems to be on every thread I ever view. Blunt by name, blunt by nature too. I am not familiar with the other two.

I rarely go on MN these days.

Mumsnet gave me a ban at the start of September for saying that Katie Price has drug drink issues and wasn’t a great parent. They said I wasn’t kind and I couldn’t post like that any more, and I could come back if I was sorry and wouldn’t do it any more

I also them that if I couldn’t post the truth, I wouldn’t be back and made them delete all my posts. They said they ‘couldn’t’ but I replied that ‘I’ve the right to be forgotten’ under the law and I could have given identifying info over the years so they legally had no choice. I did get a final patronising email from them saying they had deleted my emails, so just replied yesterday - I see that my comments have now been proven to be true

mumsset is half ‘what baby name to go with Apollo’ and other inane boring topics. I see they’ve allowed a KP thread to stay up. But if KP is regarded as a good parent

I told them their website is shit, considering the amount of reserves per the accounts, they could spend a bit, greedy fuckers.

Best of luck with your plans to adopt and I’m very sorry to hear of your loss. I actually work in adoption so would be happy to talk you through the process and any questions you might have. Agree 100% that MN is just a toxic space.

That site is toxic!
I knew someone who took heaps of advice from there and has tried to be 'a perfect parent'. Her kids never had chocolate for first few years, not even baby chocolate puddings! and they didn't go to mcdonalds until they were 3yrs old and that was for a Birthday treat. Drank only water etc etc.
Needless to say they are now spoilt brats who scream and cry every day when they don't get their own way, while she loses her shit screaming in to a towel
