Monkeypox

They think it may have been circulating for years, it has mutated to a certain extent and may have been put down to other conditions until it was flagged recently.
That does sound likely. A lot of the monkeypox symptoms are similar to ailments that came with covid . People were reporting skin complaints during the pandemic, occasionally.

People recover and then never think anymore of it . There are probably several other viruses around too.

If it’s so containable they seem to be putting a lot of effort into therapeutics

Now we’re looking at a moderate threat to public health 🙄

Eh, I sort of see the reasons for being worried that this could turn into something serious and should therefore be contained. But at the same time, I don’t think it will have the same response as COVID

There were a lot of articles during COVID saying that this sort of stuff would become more common in general because we have so much contact with animals these days. And I imagine after seeing the damage a pandemic could cause there’s a sense of needing to be more careful and of course the news reports on it more because it’s bound to get clicks. Before COVID we’d maybe see a few articles and news reports and move onto something new

The idea that viruses can be stopped in their tracks is simply not true. You cannot contain a virus. If a virus wants to spread it will find a way to do that. Isolating should be an individual choice not an automatic response. If you’re sick worry about it then, if you’re not then get on with your life we’ve all been robbed of a few years let’s not allow that to happen ever again.

We’re not permitted to send kids to school with chickenpox. I think with this disease it’s even more severe on the unborn child I don’t think letting kids take it home is a good idea

With chicken pox you keep the sick child at home you don’t isolate the entire class! Or traditionally we had chicken pox parties!
