It is strange especially as the UK seems to be more affected than the rest of the western countries yet had the flimsiest lockdown 🤷🏼‍♀️
Something definitely not right about it! Because you’d think it it is spread so easily at these big events too then why’ve we not seen that happen before like it is now or is it a case of we’re only reporting it now because of the coverage covid got it’s more likely to get views/sell papers.

No .I don't think it's been around on this scale before ,otherwise they'd have shared it from a public health point and had enough vaccines gathered in readiness.

Here’s all the confirmation we need 😂

So that's my line of thinking.

Why now, surely people with monkey pox have come to Europe before. Why now has it caused spread in Europe. The covid years created massive change in the world, remember when they showed all the rivers and seas go clean from the boats not running. Human behaviour changing that drastically for 2 years must have some sort of knock on effect.

When I said food I more meant someone with the pox packaging or picking the food contaminating it, rather than food actually being a carrier.

I don't wanna open a kettle of fish but maybe it's worse in the UK because we are very multicultural. You can also buy bush meat pretty easily London.

As far as I read it doesn’t live on surfaces very long it needs a live host , the danger with the meat is the virus could be contained in the animal tissue so you’re consuming it if it’s not cooked through to kill off the infection, anyone within a metre radius of an infected person is at risk ….

They don't know where it's come from ,they think a patient zero who was asymptomatic could be the cause as it not endemic in western animals that they know of .
It could be down to some sort immunity loss when you think of the rare hep cases in kids of unknown origin ,they're still no closer to finding a cause for that either.

Not sure if I’m missing something but wasn’t the first case of it from Nigeria where he contracted it and then contact transmission happened once back in the uk

That's right , but the other cases were unrelated , the 2nd and 3rd cases lived together , they had no connection to the first case.

There doesn't seem to be a 'trustworthy' source (such as BBC) covering this part but it's interesting as:

I remember I read this article and knew straight away that sex was going to play an important part in this

I've also seen articles mention the sexuality of people who have tested positive for it which feels a bit weird, we never did it for COVID after all

Maybe because covid was widespread throughout the population .

It’s an important factor if they notice a trend to the spread (in which they have as it’s men who have sex with men) then it should be mentioned. It would be irresponsible not to mention that! Covid didn’t appear to transmit through specific kinds of sexual intercourse.

Exactly

I do wonder if the history with AIDS/HIV (plus I guess the attitudes some people hold?) has made them pause a bit and wait for more data 🤷‍♀️

Oh for sure, but it was never a point of discussion that was pursued by WHO/journalists which says a lot in what they think the spread is. Though it's worth noting that it took a few days/weeks to admit that COVID was airborne despite that being a major discussion point (at least from what I remember) also - though that may also be connected to China seemingly wanted to save face/downplay the severity of everything a bit

My honest opinion is it’s probably fear of offending or not being politically correct. Anything related to gender or sex is so controversial in this day and age where cancel culture is a thing anyone who says anything that one single person may be offended at is at risk of being ridiculed even if it is scientifically factual. This is where it gets dangerous though because it they aren’t putting out all the facts then it risks all those who are at more risk from accessing the right info and means they aren’t taking cautions they might otherwise had they been informed.

Thats why I think it’s so important that things like this are talked about, reported on and shared in a way that most people understand. It’s more important that everyone can access medical care and information that applies to them than it is protecting a minority of peoples feelings. Eg the nhs recently removed the words women/woman on the cervical cancer info page and that risks anyone who doesn’t know medical terms such as cervix from realising this could affect them and puts a barrier in the way particularly those who English isn’t their first language. Sorry for slight derailment!!

I don’t think we can afford to put peoples feelings ahead of public health tbh.

Definitely it’s an absolute disgrace. I don’t understand who is happy to make these calls and sign off on it knowing they are risking so many peoples health!!

The article above states it may have been here undected for a few years ,STI clinics were putting it down to other conditions as they didn’t know what it was after testing for different infections 🙄 god knows how widespread it is.

Far too much pandering to china and you have to wonder why.

In the early days China also asked the NIH to remove data about covids structure.

This was only admitted after two years and after publicity shaming another scientist who brought it up.

Technically though “it wasn’t deleted just not made available. “

Two years later :

Jesse also believed that the virus did not come from a market....
