I find this very ignorant and pretty offensive.
Tsunamis can usually be avoided with warning systems. People need to get to slightly higher ground to avoid drowning.
I lost my aunt and uncle in the 2004 boxing day tsunami. They were in the basement minimarket. If they had of had a few minutes notice they could have stayed in their apartment and survived it.
If there was a tsunami warning system in places and communicated by phones then most of the 230'000 people that were killed that day would have survived. Getting onto land 15 metres higher would have saved many of them. Ten mins notice would have saved most of them. But there was no notice so hundreds of thousands were right on the seafront when a wall of water hit.

Sorry about your family members ,I wasn’t making light of Tsunamis it was an awful tragedy, I was talking about my own personal situation, we wouldn’t have anywhere to run my area is pretty flat .

I don't understand what people are scared of

Anything to complain about , because 10 seconds to turn of a feature is too much.

And people with the meh survived without it and don't need it who by that measure should opt out of modern healthcare.

If you're worried about being tracked then you just wouldn't have smart phone full stop. The govs ability to send a message makes no difference. They fucked up by not making use of the features built into smartphones before and took them ages to send out texts during covid.

Some charities are using it to get a bit of publicity, they're after all a business and any attention is good. If you have a hidden phone, it'll probably be off or on aeroplane mode, definitely will be after weeks of doom mongering about the government now snooping in on your playlists .

It'll just be used to say don't go outside during really high winds or your area is going underwater, yes some people are so stupid they need telling.

I love it how places like GB news and Talk tv who are so outraged about this "ear piercing sound" that they act will kill people out of shock is being tested at a well publicised time they are playing said sound unannounced several times a day

I also think they are crazy NOT to trust Pfizer as a company who have previously paid the largest fines in history of over $10.5 billion and admitted to previous cases of fraud and misleading investigators. Oh well as long as it was only 11 Nigerian children that died in one of their drug trials and not white ones means they can be trusted today.

Can someone express anxiety at the state of the world without being labelled a conspiracy theorist? Or are the two always connected. Would someone for example in Taiwan be one automatically if they also said a war China was imminent?

I had completely forgotten about this, so when I returned home I heard this horrible screeching sound. For a few moments, it scared and confused me. Then the noise happened again, and I realsed it was coming from my android phone.
I'm completely disgusted, what would have happened if I was elderly and confused person? They would be in a terrible state.
I'm with the tin hat brigade on this one, it is being used as another tactic to keep the population in a continual state of fear.

I was visiting my elderly parents, neither of them knew about it. My mum asked her neighbours and again they were unaware. My dad is early dementia and my mum is exhausted and ill. The neighbours all elderly and various illnesses. These people aren't stupid, far from it. But not everyone lives on sm or rolling news and that doesn't make them anyless important. My dad started to get upset about the government scaring people. It was all a bit upsetting for a while. These people aren't crazy conspiracy theorists, like some ignorant people love to call anyone nowadays who dares to raise concerns about anything. Such a dumb mentality.
The only saving grace was that everyone involved, including me have very basic, UNSMART phones so nothing would have happened anyway .

I don't really see why we need it but I also don't see the harm in having it either. If god forbid, there was something major happening and we weren't warned, people would be complaining that there was no system to warn us. It's better to have it that not have it imo

I wouldn't mind if it was going to be genuine emergency's but I have a feeling I'll be bombarded with "flood warnings" an "wind warnings" which obviously that's always a risk, am in Scotland, it's a typical winter, I don't need a ton of warnings telling me to be careful for ice risks or whatever else

I get that other country's have it but there's a huge difference between a tsunami/earthquake/tornado warning than a warning for snow which we get told about on plenty weather channels

I’ve just been on my area’s Nextdoor app. There’s a lady on there who advised people to take the SIM out of their phone, turn it off, then wrap in tinfoil and put it in the microwave. She also suggested a Faraday cage (I knew the one I stashed under the sink would come in useful one day).
She was deadly serious and delighted when a couple of others smuggly joined in because “they are the ones who know what really going on”. I’d hate to live my life in perpetual fear of perceived threat.
