Missing people and murder cases #5

There is an article in the Daily Mail online today where they’ve spoken to the sisters’ stepmother and aunty. Their parents separated and the mother had mental health difficulties. Their girls were teenagers when their mother disappeared, and her body wasn’t recovered from the lake for a couple of months which must have been incredibly traumatic. They then lived with the father and stepmother and had a younger stepsister who lives abroad.
The sisters lived together. They were well educated and had good jobs. None of them had a partner or any friends, according to their relatives. They didn’t drink or go out, apart from to church. The stepmother and aunt don’t know why the sisters went to Brighton and said they can’t recall them ever having been to the seaside in the past except once when they were children. They had no connection to the city. Some speculation that they might have gone to the celebration for David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.
What strikes me is that this is a really unusual scenario. They weren’t in Brighton for a hen do or to go out for the night. It wasn’t a hot summer’s day when you might fancy going for a dip in the sea. It was midweek, middle of the night, and cold. The sisters were found fully clothed and wearing their shoes. They must have planned the trip in advance because the article mentions the police going to a rental property in Brighton where they were staying.
We will likely never know what really happened but to me it seems like the sisters may have tragically planned this.
What I found strange is that it seems that the step mum has kids with the dad, that are the same age as the girls. Her fb is very public with lots of pictures of church, cultural ceremonies, one of her children’s graduation yet still no pictures of the three sisters.

That sounds like such a sad life, those poor girls. :(

How does everyone feel about André, Rachel Nickell’s partner, latest revelation?
Imho he’s kept this quiet for almost 35 years and it’s a private matter and I really think it is unnecessary to reveal it now.
I’ve always admired the way he moved abroad and they lived their life away from the spotlight so this seems completely at odds with that.

^ She's talking nonsense. That's untrue about their mother. Her body was found.

Can you share what he said/a link? I can’t see anything, I know the documentary is out soon.

He said she had an abortion a few months before she was killed and that she thought she was pregnant again at the time of her death.

Re Rachel Nickell - her ex's comments seem really crass, especially to say she'd recently had a termination, but he's got a book out so I suppose he feels he's gotta come out with something sensational.
He says she may have been pregnant - so presumably she may not have been - why not just have some respect and say nothing?

My thoughts exactly.
He has behaved with dignity until now so it seems so out of character.
I guess money talks. 😞

That Brighton thing is really odd! I really really hate the trend for go fund mes being set up left, right and centre though

I think it unnecessary he share that information, I feel for her having private info revealed but wish him and his son well.

Edit: Wasn't aware he had a book out. Hmmmm.

I am pretty sure I heard about an alleged pregnancy a long time ago. Is there a new book coming out? On Amazon I can only see a book released by Andre Hanscombe in 1997 and one by their son Alex in 2017.

There's a new two parter on Netflix about to be released which features him and his son. The article is linked to that.

My opinion is that he's entitled to reveal what he likes as him and his son are the ones who lived through the trauma. The only thing I'm a bit confused about is that any pregnancy, however early, would have been detailed in the PM report.

Maybe he finds some peace in believing it or maybe there's another explanation that will be explained in the documentary.

I think I'll watch it as Rachel's murder was the first crime of this nature that I remember seeing on the news as a child. It left such an impression that I ended up doing my uni dissertation on UK serial killers with a sexual element to their crimes.

I can't stand these true crime TikTokers, they are just trying to get famous from other people's tragedies. It's offputting. Ditto most Youtubers too, these days.

'First missing scientist is found dead a year after vanishing as bizarre circumstances of her death are revealed'

Found with a gun near/next to her.

interesting wording, gun found next to her....not 'found with a self inflicted wound'. suppose that will come later
