I agree with Alan in that DC would not want E to not be alive. He likes having her with him.. she is almost a life support system.
But if she was leaving him? He wouldn’t have been at all happy about that, and if the distance made it possible for her to finally tell him it was over, we can’t be sure how he would react.

A couple of other points :
(1) There is talk of her body being released and then the ashes scattered - I wouldn't think the Police would allow this if they thought the case was still unsolved.
(2) He'd have to be extremely dumb (I don't like the way he acts, but I don't think he's dumb) if he wanted to kill her to do it this way - far wiser to bide his time, propose another final hike together and then push her over a ledge whilst claiming she fell. Try and prove otherwise when him being there is not an indicator of guilt, there would be no witnesses and it would be virtually impossible to get a conviction.
My (limited) understanding of the whole process is that if they believe they have as much evidence (either of accident or not) as they are able to gather from her body, it would be released. Possibly blood or tissue samples held for further testing but a post mortem would be very thorough and images would be taken of any injuries etc.
Why prolong the pain of a funeral for the family if you don’t have to?

The problem with pushing her as a planned act would be the risk that she didn’t die. She landed and was injured but alive. Not a risk he would take, surely?

We still arent ruling out the three men she has recently spent time with. Imo I think it would be unlikely to be DC IF he has a firm alibi, otherwise like other posters say above it would have to be premeditated and that would be a very strange long drawn out premeditated attack. It would be easier for him to coax her back to her van or back to the farmhouse... maybe that did happen, but then he would have had to get her back up to the mountain 8 months later... I am still convinced this other man has something to do with it. He is in the background of one of her photos and he is looking straight at the camera... i.e. he is watching her. He gave her a lift/walked her back down the mountain.

The guy that gave her a lift has come forward though, and wasn’t he a man in his late 60’s who had his grandson with him when the lift took place? That doesn’t mean he didn’t have sinister intentions towards her, but his identity is known. Do you mean there was someone else she encountered around that time that the police haven’t investigated?

If DC wasn’t in fact involved what are the reasons behind his bizarre behaviour since Esther went missing? Is he actually an innocent man with an odd persona grieving his ‘soul-mate’ and whose reputation is unfairly being tarnished?

How to remotely operate your android phone

He set Esther's new phone up for her too

Though having said that it seems very elaborate and pre meditated. Usually things are more simple. So I am also coming round to she fell

It's just the missing tent.....
Such useful info. It's great how different people bring knowledge to the thread.

Remember he only had to bring bones back. Light. Easy peasy. I'm not ruling out an off-mountain killing.

Thanks for reminding us that Dan set Esther's phone up and that it's possible to remotely operate a phone. Who knew?

Back to the puzzle of Pic de Sauvegarde. Her phone went OFF and never went on again.

The area she was heading to had good cell coverage. Many have analysed why her phone never pinged again.

I think you solved that mystery Cheapseats!

I really can’t see anyone transporting bones about ! But you never know. I think she died up there and was concealed. The person responsible would then have time to decide what to do.. just leave the body concealed or take further action. In order to move on then the perpetrator would need the body to be found or else they will always remain a suspect. So eventually the body is exposed so that it can be declared an accident and the person can move on with a clean slate. It’s quite clever of him to in initially say that there must’ve been a third party involved. Then search and search and locate the body .. then declare it was an accident after all. Makes him look innocent.. “look it can’t have been me or else why would I have asked you to investigate it as a murder. That would bereally stupid of me “.

I forgot an extremely common behaviour of narcissists. They place spyware on partners' phones. Control.

He'd have read every text she ever sent from any app and she'd never have known.

He was Ops Director for an IT company in his past.

I haven't had time to think how this impacts anything - other than he knew of any male rivals! - but I do know there's a 100% certainty he put a software program on her phone.

Why not? It's very easy. Much easier than hiding a body from animals and searchers. I think Estella could be right about death occurring off mountain. It makes it all so much simpler.

Plus he said she wasn't on the mountain. And animals "said" she wasn't too! Via their behaviour.

Let's retrace Dan's messages to the world:

Dan's first announcement Nov 2020:

"She's NOT on the mountain!" BBC podcast interview HE requested.

Dan's 2nd announcement Jan 2021:

"It's a crime. Someone took her!"

Dan's 3rd announcement August 2021:

"It was an accident!!"

I can't see anyone transporting bones about like that and then reassembling them up on the mountain with all the equipment and the shoes etc in such a way that would fool forensic teams

Do we actually know for sure Esther even had this tent with her - she appears to have been staying in refuges/cabanes. Are there any photos of her with this tent or is it just a red (yellow) herring set by DC to distract everyone?
The "tent" was useless in this kind of weather anyway. No matter it says in the catalog that it's waterproof. You can buy a tent at Walmart for $30 that says "waterproof" on the box. Pitch it, and reality will set in. The tent in the photo ^^^^ is not a real tent: it's one layer of fabric, only, instead of two. Not for anything but a summer shower in the woods.

Besides, what difference does it make whether Esther had the tent or not? It adds nothing to the conversation. All whatshiname's storyline. Meaningless. Maybe she simply ditched it somewhere because it was so useless?

Take us through your thinking a bit more so we can understand.

What about this strikes you as too difficult?

The tent would mean life or death on a cold wet night if one had to camp. If she didn't take it she would appear reckless/mad.

It's a major clue because it's missing.

It's an inconvenience to the narrative being spread by LBT etc.

Not sure where the 1 sheet of fabric comes in? The Lanshun specs are on the thread. The fabric is lined and reinforced with silicon and aluminium.

No matter any advertising blurb, the tent would be made of nylon with silicone coating bonded to it. All that means is “thin”. There’s no “lining”. 1 layer. A tent for any kind of weather in the mountains would have an entire additional layer of a different fabric. The alum is for poles. That shape blows flat in wind, which is why good tents don’t look like that. It is missing many features of a proper tent. It is not at all a life or death tent. It’s also much too cheap for a good tent. A proper tent for camping out in the mountains above tree line would be at least £250-£300.
The tent choice shows lack of experience. Same with the flimsy shoes.

Can you give us some links to verify all that? The media stated it is a Lanshun yellow tent so we looked at the reviews. One hiker reviewed it and said it was very waterproof, durable etc. Hikers replied, agreeing it's a very good product.

Forensics would easily be able to tell if her bones had been there the whole time or if they’d been moved though. It’s basic stuff for them to find out these days.

I don’t doubt that the guy is an unpleasant narcissist who made her life very difficult, but I am struggling to see how he could have done this unless he just pushed her - in which cause her body should have been found sooner. I’m leaving towards it being a tragic accident and it just so happens that her boyfriend was a complete hole - two separate things.

Yes!! The guy in the red top has still not been identified! He was with her on 19th November: "...and as this kind fellow hiker took some photos..." he took the photos of Esther.

For all we know, the bones could just have been in a heap halfway down a mountain, not in any particular order at all. any 'movement' could be blamed on animals (imagine the state of a skeleton after being picked around by vultures, it would not be in order as you would imagine a skeleton that had been untouched by animala. The equipment would be scattered about similarly
They explained the distanced skull fragment this way, so the 'heap' of bones and equipment could have been similarly staged to make it look like a carcass/skeleton that had been there 8months plus and scavenged by animals..the forensics we are relying on are very in depth analysis of whether there is any material on them from a different source, but if they were dumped there say in April, all that would have degraded away by August.

If it was an accident, surely the search helicopters would have spotted her. She was found on the side of a mountain which is covered in scree, as far as I can see from photos of that area, snow does not settle there so she wouldn't have even been buried in snow. They would have seen her

Yes you are right, I dont think we can rule out DC, but we cant rule out this guy in the red top either, or the guys she went rock climbing with on 15th november

There was some interesting commentary on the bones on another site. The likelihood of an animal neatly placing animal bones together with a human one was deemed ridiculous.

Here's a great article on how vultures smell a corpse from more than a mile away.

So how do vultures find fresh road kill? It's not with eagle eyes. Surprisingly, though most birds lack any sense of smell , vultures can sniff out a dead critter from more than a mile away.

"They smell the unique sulphurous chemical compounds of decaying meat from high in the sky, then will circle around downwards until they find the aroma's origin," Woterbeek said.

This is interesting - so there were multiple people who knew that there was a lone female hiking around the wilderness. That’s quite chilling.

She was clearly on the solo trip that she kept extending to escape her life circumstances for whatever reason and so perhaps DC’s strange behaviour is all to do with the guilt he feels for her being driven to foolhardily hike solo in the mountains in winter with worn shoes and not enough resources to buy adequate food supplies or fuel for the camper. As I understand it she hitched to the mountains from where she parked the camper rather than drove herself. Maybe if her camper had been parked closer to the trail she would have just headed back there instead of carrying on towards her tragic fate.

You don’t know this with 100% certainty, I can’t help but think this is all getting a bit far fetched. Are these increasingly elaborate theories going to continue forever as I can’t see anyone being arrested.
Dan’s a total fool - clear to see. The rest is speculation.

Warning: gruesome, shocking story.

........ not for sensitive readers....

8 years ago a woman hiker fell off a mountain in the Pyrenees. Vultures finished her 40-50 minutes after she fell.

Police found her very fast because so many vultures were on the scene.

But in Esther's case searchers saw NO vultures.

This shocking incident teaches us 2 things:

1. If he pushed her off, vultures would have taken 1hr to reduce her to bones.

2. He only alerted to her missing THREE days later. By which time the corpse is gone & vultures are gone.

3. Bones & clothes, TENT, POLES & 17 other missing items would be left. But those would be found by searchers. they have not been found.

I'm shocked to learn vultures end a person so fast. At first I thought maybe she did have an accident and end like this.

BUT if so where are the tent, poles etc x 18?

And why did dogs not scent her clothing at minimum?

And why did he not alert for 3 days??

And why did her phone never ping after 4pm 22 Nov despite her heading to good cell signal area?

He "set up her phone" as reported by media. What do those words mean to you?

When I buy a new phone I don't need people to "set it up"!

Set it up for what?

I'm not sure where but I'm pretty sure I read he had come forward and been eliminated from enquiries.

To be honest there is not much to take you through really, it's so far fetched a theory.
