Having depression and mental illness doesn’t give you a free pass to be an awful human. That isn’t how it works Chandler…

When I was at Glastonbury last year, I hurt my leg quite badly and had to go to the pop up hospital on site. There was a lad brought in there who was in a ket hole! They checked he was ok and just left him slumped against a chair till he came out of it. He was in a right state! Head thrown back and occasionally jerking and muttering crap!

Give him a break, he's a mess and has a colostomy bag, so good for him for trying :)

I'm sure everyone would be cringing if their early doors flirtations were recorded and made public. I definitely would, hahaha.

It was his choice to take drugs. Why are they trying to pin it on his (female) friends?
The crime rate in LA is at a huge high, have the police really got fuck all better to do?

My husband listened to the audio book and he thought it was one big pity party. Being horrible to/about Keanu Reeves feels a bit ‘punching down’ to me - he’s very popular, he’s not problematic and I’ve read a lot of stories about people meeting him and being a really nice guy. Maybe Matthew knew he wouldn’t get involved in a public spat so he was an easy target?
Yeah, I have heard nothing but good things about Reeves and that's pretty rare.

I think Perry lost a lot of fans that day!

Apparently, she had set the age range higher for an aunt and had forgot to take it off. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell!
Older men trying it on with much younger women has been going on since humans started having sex. He is also famous, so knows he can hit higher than your average male.
She looks like a silly little girl looking for her 5mins of fame, and it backfired.
Now, off to check what my age range is set....!!
So basically an 'exclusive' dating app for famous people allows some random internet wannabe and her 50 something aunt join? Yeah right 😄

I am disgusted. I was looking for information on his funeral, and I saw this video. It's basically just a drone shot, but the fact that this is being done just makes me break out in hives. Not only are there shouting paparazzi all over the place in normal circumstances, but now there are drone paparazzi that can infiltrate private moments like nobody's business.

I don't usually get this emotional over the thought of paparazzi, but Matthew meant a lot to me both growing up and as an adult, and not just as Chandler. Fools Rush In was my favourite movie as a kid, and I rewatch Studio 60, 17 Again, and The Odd Couple all the time.
But if you were actively looking for info on his funeral, you are the reason the paps are out there invading people's privacy.

Someone just shared a post about the noughties diet culture on Instagram. God it was so bad, the body-shaming magazines, the special k diet, “drop a size”, the atkins craze, Kate moss was everywhere, most of the celebs were tiny and obsessed with being a size 0! I don't blame the friends girls. Thankfully we know better now.

As far as I understand the original ketamine infusions were all legal, supervised, etc., and then it spiralled into an addiction leading to an overdose?

What I am struggling to get my head around is how a doctor thought that ketamine was an appropriate treatment for depression for a patient with known substance and drug abuse issues. Especially as ketamine for depression is still considered experimental treatment afaik so it’s not even like they could have been certain it would work for him. Just seems a crazy risk to take.

I’m sorry, but it seems like on here literally everyone is to blame except Matthew. For example we have no idea if the PA was also an addict, we know Brooke was but even she doesn’t have excuses made for her like Matthew.
The perks of being rich and famous! You can get away with horrible behaviour that the average person would be vilified for. If he were a long term addict living on the streets no one would care who sold him the drugs or give him a second thought unfortunately

I saw an episode of Friends being filmed and both Jen and Courtney were unbelievably slim in real life. Hard to know where they might be keeping their internal organs.

I don’t think we’ve moved far away from the obsession with thinness at all. We might have reframed it as health but it’s the same old stuff.

Can't believe the wonderfully funny Matthew Perry has died. It's bloody tragic. Apart from his acting, he did a lot to help those with addictions, and despite his fame, he seemed a very approachable person, willing to help anyone who needed it. As I say, bloody tragic.
Aw Jeez, RIP Matthew Perry.

Ketamine can be fun and therapeutic but the last place you wanna be when you k-hole is alone submerged in water. The ketamine therapy he was receiving was fully-supervised, I find the recent trend for ketamine therapy quite worrying as it gives the impression a very intense drug is actually safe. He was obviously one of those people who just couldn’t handle being inside his own head and thought K was safer than opiates, really really sad

I think it's worse than that, they totally knew of the risks but it was profitable so money was put above patient safety.

Synthetic opioids have destroyed whole communities and killed hundreds of thousands, but it was allowed to happen because billions could be made.
If an addict has the money people like this don't care do they. A lot of times it's some addict shooting up in some filthy place and if they die nobody cares but this was a very well known star so obviously it was fully investigated. I don't know what to think abiut the assisstant. When an addict is begging you for more it's hard to say no and being his eployer even more so. He should have kept an eye on him though knowing how much he'd had that day and especially seeing as he was going in the hot tub.

I have seen this interview - he said it was "not fair" and the interviewer repeated it.

I do think that MP was possibly "wired for drugs" because he was given drugs/sleeping pills as a baby and I do think it has impact on the brain.

But of course he had personal responsibility.

I just think that for some people it is easier to get sober and for others it is harder.

Do you think the other "Friends" cut him out or stopped having contact with him? David Schwimmer and Matt also seem to do their own thing, Lisa as well.
Only Jennifer and "Monica" seem very close, still.

I also felt that MP was the one who was most attached to "Friends", from an emotional perspective. He wanted to have the last line, I felt he made a "grand entrance" scene when he came in as the last one at the reunion. It seemed like he always wanted to have a special role cast out for him.
I can imagine his ego on set was huge, and that he believed Chandler to be the main and most popular character with the arrogance of that. The others, for all of their fame and fortune, seem fairly down to earth and likeable.

I did read the book.
And I thought he came across as incredibly self absorbed and selfish.
I read it thinking that it was an account of addiction by someone who’d cleaned up.
But actually, finding out that he hadn’t, doesn’t surprise me. Because it was very clear that he’d not reached the point of being truly sorry for the effect his addiction had had on others.
He was still very much in the poor me stage, and everything was to blame for his addiction but himself.
When they did the Friends reunion thing, I felt like the others excluded him a bit, didn’t fully interact with him, were a bit embarrassed by him. I felt sorry for him.
I now think he’d probably pushed most of them to the limits of friendship.
I’m certain now that the reason they were fairly slow
to put out statements after his death was because they knew they had to tread carefully, given that the sad truth was likely to come out about how clean he was (not).
I don’t know why I feel compelled to write such a lengthy post; I guess I just feel like his life and death are a perfect example of the fact that actors are always acting, and we never should never necessarily believe what they present as their real face.
True. I entirely agree with what you say - however, I’m kind of mixed about it.

On the one hand, I understand what you are saying and the premise of the book that got to #1 bestseller - was that he had overcome his demons. He said that he wanted above all to be remembered for helping others and that anyone could come to him needing help andhe would never turn his back.

In reality, untrue. He had zero dealings with anybody it appears except an insatiable supply and enablers to assist.

My opinion in his defense though is - he isolated himself, he didn’t have a wife/partner/children to witness and carry the trauma into the future? I feel like he struggled very much alone. He carried the weight of his addictions on his own shoulders when he easily could have had a ‘picture perfect’ life for the pretense. That, in itself and for whatever reason, is admirable to me. Don’t drag kids into your chaos.
