I just know the tributes from the main Friends cast is gonna be heartbreaking

While I liked the character chandler, and thought Matt was very talented, I didn’t like him too much. His comments (twice) about Keanu Reeves put me off. I think the rest of the cast tried to help, but his addictions were too strong for him

Someone just shared a post about the noughties diet culture on Instagram. God it was so bad, the body-shaming magazines, the special k diet, “drop a size”, the atkins craze, Kate moss was everywhere, most of the celebs were tiny and obsessed with being a size 0! I don't blame the friends girls. Thankfully we know better now.

Oh my goodness I grew up 90s early 00s and this comment has thrown me!!! Is it any wonder I have such body issues! I have so many memories of every advert being about the special k diet drop a dress size. Pretty sure I was a 14 year old only eating special k to lose weight I grew up thinking I was huge and it’s very sad to look back at photos of me now. Sorry to go off topic a bit but the special K comment threw me!

I'm so lucky that I was a child when Friends was on so I was oblivious to his physical giveaways of his troubles on the show.
Very interesting point about him potentially feeling he carried the show.
This is of course just from my perspective but when it was on I always thought Jen and David held the show, then Matt LB and Courtney followed last by Matthew Perry and Lisa. Perhaps it was storylines, how much airtime they had, quotable scripts etc?

Definitely Jen and David when you look at how many season finales revolved around their story. Also I’m sure David is the only one that got to direct episodes

I’ve done so many of these fad diets and it’s almost certainly part of the reason I still have a terrible relationship with food/my body/dieting to this day.

I’ve had such a warped perception of these things that I even remember thinking that Jen and Courteney were slightly big in earlier series before they got really tiny. I watch back now and realize they were always really small, just that they became even smaller.

I never thought Lisa was slim either. Again I watch back now and realize she was actually quite slim, just bigger than tiny JA and CC! And she has a naturally bigger build anyway. She always looked perfectly healthy and really good.

It's a good thing he apologised and will leave it out of future editions but the fact he even included it at all...what on earth! That was the moment I went right off him and I'm not even what I'd call a fan of Reeves (as in, I've not seen many of his films is all) because anyone who thinks it's okay to tell the world something like that is to be avoided.

It was absolutely grim the stuff Perry was coming out with during the memoir PR tour. Has sort of ruined Chandler Bing for me at least somewhat. There's being honest and then there's taking soulbearing and attention seeking to unhealthy levels.

My husband listened to the audio book and he thought it was one big pity party. Being horrible to/about Keanu Reeves feels a bit ‘punching down’ to me - he’s very popular, he’s not problematic and I’ve read a lot of stories about people meeting him and being a really nice guy. Maybe Matthew knew he wouldn’t get involved in a public spat so he was an easy target?

I've only just watched it and honestly, I think he has false teeth (crowns or bridges, not implants) and that's why his speech isn't clear. They look false as well. I had a friend who lost his front teeth and he slurred like that for years because his tongue couldn't accommodate to the front crowns.
I hope that's all it is, anyway.

Yes I read he had emergency crown done for the reunion show or something. Maybe his teeth were in too bad a state from the drug abuse etc. He is a long term addict. its such a shame, what he has done to himself.

What we love in an actor or star is usually a complete and total fabrication. They're all just humans, often ordinary ones like anyone else in reality, and sometimes absolutely crap ones. When we go crazy over an actor, all we are really reacting to is the image concocted to sell them to us

Exactly this. its worrying how many people think they know celebs because they follow them on Instagram or chat to other fans about them and suddenly think they know who they are. They know what the celebs choose to tell them, mixed with something someone who doesn't know them has made up for attention on gossip sites.

Also so interesting to learn that David was hired as the star and was due to be paid the most until he said he wouldn’t do Friends unless they all got paid the same, what a legend!

Really? I did not know this! I love this, I love David and Ross has always been my favourite.

Such sad news to wake up to. Chandler Bing is and always will be such an iconic character. No age to go and he dealt with so many demons in his life; I hope he had some happiness in his last years/ months.

I do realise that. I looked to see if a funeral date had been set (like a post from his official social media) and the first thing that came up was said video. I did not go out to search for photos of his loved ones grieving.

I know it will never happen but I’d like to know more about the dark side of it all. About how Matthews addiction effected the filming. And remember how tiny all the women were? It was a big deal at the time how thin they got. Would like to know more about those pressures. And, other than Lisa who has been married to her husband since 1995, they all seem to have burnt through relationships.

Yeah I'd like to know that avoid body image. In the first season JA was slim but had hips and had a naturally curvy figure but shrank in size and lost those curves. Similarly Courtney Cox got so skinny.

there is no difference, you’re right. We were talking about drug addiction though which is far easier to succumb to. I have drunk alcohol in the past but was never a heavy drinker and I no longer drink. I have never taken drugs though or smoked cigarettes because I didn’t want to become addicted.

Yeah, that’s the hard part. Making the choice. I think people don’t understand it’s a slippery slope. Ultimately the effort has to be made. You can be an addict, but no one can fix it for you. There is no magic cure. Matthew had all the money and trips to rehab and sober coaches and help, and he still wasn’t willing to make the decision to no longer do any drugs or drink. That’s the only thing that will stop the addiction. The persons decision to do things differently.

Yep I think you’ve both nailed a couple of really important points That explain a lot of how their lives and careers have unfolded post friends.

I feel for all of them being compared to their younger selves though, no one ever comes off that comparison feeling good about themselves.

From what I've read it seems like it was a genuine accident. It sounds like this is a ring though so they will be wanting to find out who else is being supplied and who is the dealer. I wouldn't be surprised if, by the time this is done and dusted, a few more 'famous' names are revealed.

Finally got to watch the reunion and right off the bat I felt like Jen was a bit OTT. Maybe that's just her as a person but I can't really explain it. Courtney seemed to be a bit embarrassed by her character being with Matthew's in the way she completely wrote him off in the future scenarios in comparison to Jen and David. Matt and Lisa seem really chill which I like. I don't feel like Matthew was as reserved and down in the dumps as it's been made out? He probably just didn't have much to add considering he doesn't remember a lot of the show, and felt stressed to make everyone laugh at all times.

yes JA is either the warmest person ever or she is extremely ingenuine- I couldn’t make my mind up which it was!

one thing that struck me about the show was MP saying that he didn’t hear from anybody- I wonder if that’s true!
