Today’s outing and ‘get ready with me’ she’s definitely more influencer than baker. Bakers don’t tend to prance about in their lingerie so much…
it struck me the other day. I don’t know how I managed to be so duped.

She was a blogger/influencer. She’s never been anything other than that. I assumed she had some sort of baking/cooking background but nope. Never has.

Manon got a degree in economics, then aged 19moved to London to become an au pair for a year or so. She got a job in software which was a reliable source of income. During this time she was trying to kick start a blogging career, and applying for the likes of The Box in 2015 and GBBO. She got through GBBO and relaunched her blog and a career in influencing from that, circa 2018. Then met and rapidly moved in with her now husband around February 2019.

Around 2018 she became a full time influencer.

she’s never worked in a restaurant, never had any qualifications with food. She’s literally just piggy backed off the reality that her family own a farm and the USP that she’s French. She’s always been an influencer, she posted lifestyle and travel stuff too IIRC. But the food stuff is what’s stuck I guess.

what I find depressing about Manon is that she’s clearly very smart. She has a degree in economics. She worked in software and became a manager in just a few years. She’s a smart woman.

but instead she’s doing the tradwife-but-not-a-tradwife schtick. Cooking with her perfect outfits, styled hair and put together makeup, wholesome meals for her husband and kids. The influencing stuff must be a nice side earner for them, but it’s clearly not a full time job for her. Her recipes/books aren’t spectacular or groundbreaking and they aren’t particularly successful that I can tell. Housewives in the 50s had Avon and Tupperware as their side gigs. Today we have influencers.

in another universe, Manon decided not to prance around a kitchen in her cashmere and headbands making basic tarte tatin recipes and showing off her post partum weight loss while pretending that’s not what she’s doing.

in another universe she followed through with her degree, continued to excel in software and male dominated fields, and was celebrated for her contributions to the tech industry. She’s clearly extremely capable in that regard.

I guess that’s just the way it goes sometimes. She was chasing the influencer gig so clearly being a tech whizz held no interest for her.

it’s so hard for me to stomach. On a level, I get that everyone has to follow what they are passionate about. And clearly Manon has done well financially, out of not doing very much. Which makes for a pleasant life.

but damn it irks me to see a female economics grad prance about in her undies before cooking a meal for her husband’s family.

Oh my word that Substack article on influencers..the utter hypocrisy! She knows it too, I suspect, but has to post something on it as it’s all the rage now. She goes on about how her daughter is modelling but it’s ok as it’s not 24 hours a day type crap. And it’s ok as it’s on her (Manon’s) page.. utter hypocrisy. And she knows too she is part of the problem.

Glad I’ve found this page, as she irks me somewhat too. She seems like in reality she is stuck up, pretentious and running that French superiority vibe some of them give off.

Anyone have a link to the article?
Agree it's ridiculous talking about her children not having screens etc when they're all over social media

And only half an hour tv a day on Disney films or slow tv… my god she does sound pretentious. Wait til your kids grow up love, they’re a bit more of handful then and can be quite testibg - though I’m sure she’d never let on about that! Her life is just too perfect!

think this is it? - https://manonlagreve.substack.com/

Arrogance - that is it. She reeks of arrogance, and a superiority complex to me. So unattractive. Humility goes a long way. Wonder if she ever has been humble? Or just always been so spolit that she can’t see that this online thing/well off hubby/bit of fame, has turned her into a typical up herself influencer?

wtf Manon

“My parents used me for free labour so it’s fine for me to use my daughter in content for an hour or so”

I think she’s missed a major point here. Unpaid labour aside; helping her parents out on their farm wasn’t an invasion of her privacy before she could consent

It’s a bit confusing, because she’s tagging these companies but there’s no ad declared…

Like the post before where she posted an outfit that had “some PR samples”

Like, which ones were PR and which were not? Doesn’t this count as an ad?

I have always wondered this as these Instagram types seem to always be hesitant to admit something is an ad even if it clearly is - be it “gifted”, “sponsored” or whatever you want to call it. Or even when they sodding tag a brand hinting at freebies. Makes me sick - you’ve got the money, pay yourself!

Her overall arrogance gets me most though. I don’t let my kids have screens, tv, I have to solo parent tonight woe me and that crap.. come on love, most women do - and daily! And work full time actual jobs. Not just going to free events where you’re given stuff, or recording yourself talking to your camera whilst you make dinner.

You have e the time for that stuff - you more than have time to look after your own kids! Bloody Mother Earth.

im healthier than you, im fitter than you, i can run further than you, I wake up earlier than you, my child reads more than yours, i go on better holidays than you. Yes - because you have a wealthy husband who also comes from money and you get paid to film yourself cooking or cutting a ribbon. Well done!

Yeh she does feel a bit smug and tone deaf. If I was being generous. You could maybe attribute the tone of the substack as a result of English not being her first language.

But yeh, I could’ve sworn she was never like this before. I hate to say it - but has she gotten like this since meeting her husband?

I’m very familiar with the French manner and use of language, including interpreting and translation, and I’m not giving her the benefit of the doubt here - it is smugness. The French are like this naturally but she really does come across as a very arrogant showboater. I am a professional baker, she recently stated. Is that what you call it? By virtue of baking and putting it on the internet? Or because your family is French?! The opportunities she has had to bake professionally have only been as a result of her Instagram page.

I think the smugness comes from the privileges she has now. The freebies, the Instagram adverts, all the sponsorships. The husband thing has permitted her to get to where she is if you ask me. He’s clearly well to do - his family I believe own a very well to do furniture store in Cheshire.

By chance it is where most of their new house furniture seems to come from, as she is forever linking the brand - of course this is providing free publicity for her freebies.

oh and wow she managed to get herself and 2 kids up and ready for 7.30 am. Wow - nobody has ever done that before.

As I've said upthread, she wouldn't do that if she knew about her following on Reddit  Or maybe she does know and doesn't care.

Smug and tone-deaf and doesn't see that the reason she can do all this is because she's married to Mr half-zip finance bro. I find it really strange how she almost boasts about him not knowing his way around a kitchen and never having baked a cake in his life.

I've unfollowed her now as her latest Stories is just so annoying. Apparently she never posts anything political but now she's in tears, give me a break! 🙄

People have mentioned this in the comments under her posts quite a bit.

Someone has pointed out she’s clearly not eating the full portions she shows, and she’s lost weight. Her response? That she was always running around with kids. Hmmm.

If you were, again, being generous, you could say she genuinely just lost the weight naturally. And that she shows her undies because she’s sponsored by that underwear company.

But I can’t lie, it struck me as showing off post partum weight loss. She seems pretty proud of it - which is problematic in and of itself. Loosing weight after having a baby is not commendable. Taking care of your mental health, your physical health and adapting to life with your new baby is commendable.

She’s always come from money/privilege no? Her parents own a large farm/their own business and I was always under the impression she came from money. Coming to London at 19 with no qualifications to learn English, isn’t something most people can afford to do (and she actually first wanted to go to the states). Which makes me think she had financial backing.

She’s definitely always come across as very confident and self assured, but yes it’s verging into self satisfied territory.

Good knowledge. He went to Oxford, which is more of an indicator of class background than academic capability. So I knew he must’ve come from money.

Yeh they probs both earn a good income, but both clearly also come from generational wealth. Good for them, but nothing to be arrogant about.
