Today’s outing and ‘get ready with me’ she’s definitely more influencer than baker. Bakers don’t tend to prance about in their lingerie so much…
it struck me the other day. I don’t know how I managed to be so duped.

She was a blogger/influencer. She’s never been anything other than that. I assumed she had some sort of baking/cooking background but nope. Never has.

Manon got a degree in economics, then aged 19moved to London to become an au pair for a year or so. She got a job in software which was a reliable source of income. During this time she was trying to kick start a blogging career, and applying for the likes of The Box in 2015 and GBBO. She got through GBBO and relaunched her blog and a career in influencing from that, circa 2018. Then met and rapidly moved in with her now husband around February 2019.

Around 2018 she became a full time influencer.

she’s never worked in a restaurant, never had any qualifications with food. She’s literally just piggy backed off the reality that her family own a farm and the USP that she’s French. She’s always been an influencer, she posted lifestyle and travel stuff too IIRC. But the food stuff is what’s stuck I guess.

what I find depressing about Manon is that she’s clearly very smart. She has a degree in economics. She worked in software and became a manager in just a few years. She’s a smart woman.

but instead she’s doing the tradwife-but-not-a-tradwife schtick. Cooking with her perfect outfits, styled hair and put together makeup, wholesome meals for her husband and kids. The influencing stuff must be a nice side earner for them, but it’s clearly not a full time job for her. Her recipes/books aren’t spectacular or groundbreaking and they aren’t particularly successful that I can tell. Housewives in the 50s had Avon and Tupperware as their side gigs. Today we have influencers.

in another universe, Manon decided not to prance around a kitchen in her cashmere and headbands making basic tarte tatin recipes and showing off her post partum weight loss while pretending that’s not what she’s doing.

in another universe she followed through with her degree, continued to excel in software and male dominated fields, and was celebrated for her contributions to the tech industry. She’s clearly extremely capable in that regard.

I guess that’s just the way it goes sometimes. She was chasing the influencer gig so clearly being a tech whizz held no interest for her.

it’s so hard for me to stomach. On a level, I get that everyone has to follow what they are passionate about. And clearly Manon has done well financially, out of not doing very much. Which makes for a pleasant life.

but damn it irks me to see a female economics grad prance about in her undies before cooking a meal for her husband’s family.

Ha I came on for this!

It’s quite ironic really when Manon’s kids must see her with a portable screen at all times. Nothing wrong with not giving kids tablets but to be preachy about it when she’s hardly setting a good example is a bit rich.
I'm going to die on that hill: Giving your kid a portable screen once in a while to give you some respite and make traveling a little more relaxing is a million times less dangerous than daily exposing your kid (who is to young to consent) to 700000 strangers aka potential pedos. Especially in times of AI improving fast every day.

She has absolutely no authority to stand on moral highground and preach about not doing portable screens "ever".

Also, notice how she is making it all about herself: she's answering that woman in her comment section that she doesn't want people to think she's posting her kids for likes, therefore she's not showing her daughter's face anymore.

So she's not hiding the kid's face for her kid's sake but to preserve her own public appearance. Which is 100% projection: OF COURSE she's been posting her kids for likes. She has since the very day they were born. It's as obvious as broad daylight.

Another hill I'm going to die on: she's a self centered, self absorbed, superficial opportunist blinded by shiny freebies, and she's neither very bright nor a caring empathetic parent.

I wonder whether her husband would still be her husband if he hadn't been that wealthy Eton boy. She may be pretty but genuinely not bright.
It makes me go all Mrs Merton, "what attracted you to your high-earning, Oxford-educated husband with the cushion of generational wealth?"

I used to really like her recipes and even bought her first two books but I now just find her obnoxious and tone deaf. It's not about "hating" but stating that everything she has is down to hard work implies that everyone could live that way if only they worked "hard". Life is far easier when you live a life of privilege.

I couldn't quite believe how many adverts were on the father's day post alone, even his shirt was linked. I have no issue with the occasional advert but it is just constant and she's so far removed from her original content.

I find the constant references to "solo-parenting" ridiculous. I'm in hospital and there's no way my partner would say he is "solo-parenting" he's just being a parent.

I think her message is becoming more and more diluted. It's very much "look at me and my fabulous life" but when you have to advertise every product it just makes them look desperate. Are they really doing so badly that they have to sell everything? It comes across as poor financial planning and overstretched so they can keep up with the Jones', especially if they can't even afford childcare over the summer.

The best thing she could do is come offline for a while, stop linking every single product and go back to her original content. She posts everything but at what cost? I doubt her children will be happy when they're old enough to understand that every moment of their lives has been documented.

I totally see what you mean. At first I really liked her food content. But over time, I saw more and more of her actual character peek through. Now it's like watching a train wreck 😬.

I genuinely think she lacks the intellectual depth to grasp the different perspectives and layers of perception that come with having such a large platform. To me she comes across as deeply materialistic, greedy, shallow, status-driven, desperate to belong and, deep down, profoundly insecure. I wonder whether her husband would still be her husband if he hadn't been that wealthy Eton boy. She may be pretty but genuinely not bright.

She's completely blind to her own privilege, and I honestly don't think she is intelligent enough to understand what privilege actually means. Instead, she keeps telling everyone how "grateful" she is, because she read in some self help book that it makes you look deep.

Not once have I seen her respond to criticism with curiosity. She never seems to stop and ask herself, "Could they have a point?" I don't even think she consciously dismisses feedback. I genuinely think she doesn't know how to reflect beyond the surface. Anything more nuanced than "You're amazing!" is met with defensiveness, snark, and astonishingly tone-deaf replies, and finally, the blocking finger.

The part I find hardest to stomach, though, is the way she uses her children. I've seen absolutely vile sexual comments on Reddit about photos of her in her underwear or bathing suit, even while she was pregnant. I'd bet money there are equally disgusting people making the same kinds of comments about her children somewhere else on the internet. Exposing these poor innocent little people to that kind of abuse for the sake of freebies and luxury vacations makes my skin crawl. It's just so wrong.
For the life of me I can't imagine making that trade-off with my own children.

Thanks for the concern Manon, but I'm actually a very happy person, I have a great life, a lovely family, strong real life social connections.

I also see through the influencer bullshit, and enjoy a laugh and tattle ticks those boxes.

We're not all sad, pathetic losers who sit at home 24/7 stuck on here, we just don't agree with everything you do and that is evidently very painful for you!

Her always acting like you can only raise kids and work if you have family around... 🙄
And even if they dolive nearby: you still can't expect everyone to drop everything to come babysit.

I don't live near family and have gotten in serious trouble several times at work for having to leave early to pick up a sick kid. But you make it work somehow (me: working at night from home when kids are asleep). There's no point in whining about how unfair it is to not have family around. Also it's your own choice. Want family nearby, go live where they live 🤷‍♀️
If France is so great, why doesn't she move her family there altogether? Oh that's right, because her husband's job is in the UK and her "job" isn't easily transferable because being "a French" isn't exactly a USP in France.

Manon LaGreve is one massive undisclosed ad. She NEVER declares her ads properly and I have reported her to ASA so many times but nothing gets done and she continues to get away with it. I no longer trust that any brand she mentions isn’t an undisclosed freebie. All of her furniture is from Arighi Bianci which is a family business connected to her husband. The first review on Amazon for her 2nd cookbook was by her husband - this isn’t allowed by Amazon’s rules, but I reported it and it is still there. She must feel utterly untouchable. They are clearly loaded but she accepts every freebie going… and doesn’t declare it. I’m absolutely sick of her smugness: her weight being down to just walking and eating the French way (we’re not fools, just say you have a high metabolism or admit that you’re not eating those full portions!); her children’s being perfect little angels (they often look so sullen and absolutely have screen time); she’s the best mother to ever have mothered in the history of motherhood (oops sorry, la meilleure maman to ever have maman-ed 🙄🙄🙄).
Rant over. Until her next post with the inevitable undeclared ad.

She really needs to stop digging herself into that hole now

She doesn't understand the actual issue.
And as she alludes to above, she's breathtakingly inarticulate, not just because she is communicating in a second language but because she's uneducated on the subject and too stubborn and arrogant to actually read up on it beyond a quick Google search to find something that backs up her uninformed opinion.

I'm so sick of this "of course I have the odd cigarette, I am French!" trope she trots out whenever it suits her. I know plenty of French people, a few of whom smoke, a few of whom have quit, and a few of whom have always been fiercely anti-smoking. Just like the general population. And most of them don't shite on about being French all the time!

This comment really nails it for me, especially the bit about sacrificing her children's privacy. She makes a big deal about screens but shared info about her kid's potty training? How's Fleur going to feel about that when she's older? Ah Manon, vous êtes une grande hypocrite! (I said it in French so it's automatically classier...)

She’s very French when it comes to birthday parties, you know - cake, candles and a lot of love.
Well, she wouldn't want the traditional British birthday of rhubarb jousting, pin the Yorkshire Pudding on the roast beef, followed by giving the child every plastic toy in the Argos catalogue!

Oh my god she’s just so smug. In her latest stories she’s talking about how the kids are amazing travellers, need no entertainment (and definitely no screens!) and just come along happily. And then in the background you can hear the dad saying “just shush fleur, daddy’s doing something”…which I assume is filming mummy it looks like!

I’m confused on how the French manicure falls under bare nails?

isn’t the whole point of a French manicure that it’s still nail polish, just with a natural look? Ergo it’s not bare nails and not the same thing..?

I mean up to Manon if she paints her nails or not, a total non issue. But felt a bit weird to me that her take is “well my husband likes them”.

are our husbands the final sign off now on what is and isn’t ok? If she prefers bare nails then that should be it. Why does her husband’s preference come up as though his seal of approval is needed..?
